View Full Version : OCC, April in Paris,Diff=TBD
plarq Mar 30, 2005, 10:09 AM Just an idea occured in my mind.
Now I'm recruiting some players to play an SG.
I guess difficulty will be Emp or DG.
Civ=France
Level=DG,Emp if too difficult
Roster:
plarq
eldar
Vizurok
Open
Standard LKendter rules.
It's not OCC really,variants:
1.Early OCC.
2.(Using BeF's idea)Semi-Passive,we can only start revenge on those who attack(bombard) Paris or pillage land improvements in Paris, otherwise we cannot take offence.Once a peace treaty signed between us and aggrassor, future revenges require another attack or pillage.
3.Colony cities allowed, which are cities far apart from Paris(at least 40 tiles away),two colony cities must be 10 tiles apart at least.
4.Original captials of rivals can be kept, even they're not 40 tiles away from Paris.
5.Favorable VCs are Space,Culture,Diplo in that sequence.
plarq Mar 30, 2005, 10:17 AM Well I post lyrics, anyone who figure out a good variant rules?
April in Paris
Chestnuts in blossom
Holiday tables under the trees
April in Paris
This is the feeling
No one can ever reprise
I never knew the charm of spring
I never met it face to face
I never new my heart could sing
I never missed a warm embrace
Till April in Paris,
Whom can I run to
What have you done to my heart
plarq Mar 30, 2005, 10:34 AM Small,80% Continent,No Barbs,moderate world.Emp Level.
plarq Mar 30, 2005, 10:43 AM Standard,Demigod,Pangaea 80%,moderate world.No Barbs.
plarq Mar 30, 2005, 10:46 AM Same Settings
Beorn-eL-Feared Mar 31, 2005, 03:58 PM Sounds like fun, never actually tried an OCC above regent but that was basically just a matter of time. Ahhh, time ...
April in Paris sounds like a time for holidays, festivities, enjoyment of monuments and parks ... basically, I'd say we protect the parks and go take out some parks when they come for ours:hammer:
In other words, raze one city per direct attack on Paris. That'll teach them to enjoy their own parks, while they last. Also, no incursion EVER of Paris' worked tiles, and natural 13 once we get to L3 culture. Death penalty:spank:
Edit: all 3 settings look bloody nice, though settling on the hill mountain of #3 looks like a profitable situation.
microbe Mar 31, 2005, 04:14 PM None of them is good. You need river for commerce, which is ultra important for an OCC.
plarq Apr 01, 2005, 03:39 AM @microbe:You're correct IIRC,but I just can't roll off a start near coast AND by river in 20+ tries, which is a crazy  thingy.
I rolled the dice just now as a work of an April Fool, only to get the following:
change climate to wet.
plarq Apr 01, 2005, 03:45 AM Restore Climate to normal, get this start:
Good luck on April Fools Day!
plarq Apr 01, 2005, 03:54 AM Use seed of "Pink Dot" or something like that, got the following
plarq Apr 01, 2005, 03:57 AM @BeF:My idea of this game:we are only allowed to capture enemy capital(Just like Mic8),and cannot build cities ourselves.Or:we are only allowed to have cities very far away from Paris(say,40 tiles or so).
eldar Apr 01, 2005, 05:10 AM I'll join up. Now roll up a start with coast, river, and ivory and we'll be laughing.
plarq Apr 01, 2005, 11:36 AM @eldar,welcome aboard.
I've made a draft of variant rules in post #1,suggestions are appreciated.
However, due to peaceful nature of Paris citizens(see Semi-Passive variants),SoZ will kill our gpt in AA,and only compensate with tourism and culture later on.
BTW:the lyrics of Post #2 are from (IIRC) Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.
Vizurok Apr 01, 2005, 11:59 AM I would like to join to the game, Plarq. I have won an emperor hardcore OCC, so I think I could handle Demigod.
Wating for answer, Vizurok :D
plarq Apr 01, 2005, 10:22 PM @Vizurok,welcome!
With 3 people in,I guess we can seriously determine the variant rules and map.Do we need Bede or viper275 to pick bad starts?
From my personal taste,I'd like to choose the last start. :bashwall: I urgently need good starts.
eldar Apr 01, 2005, 10:27 PM I like the colony cities idea; but rather than go on distance, just make the restriction that we can ony build our cities next to resources and luxes.
I'd go for the start with the furs visible.
plarq Apr 01, 2005, 10:41 PM @eldar,distance restriction means we cannot get productive cities other than Paris,or we'll end up with several cities near Paris,if RNG god does us a favor.
My guess colony cities will act as forts, chokes or resource claimers. But in the outskirt of Paris,we'll have to live with OCC,colonies help us nothing but strategical position and resources.
Edit:Anyone who can roll good starts for OCC is highly appreciated.
Vizurok Apr 02, 2005, 06:58 AM I would be with the furs location, teh tobacco seems to be a bit flat for me...
plarq Apr 02, 2005, 08:46 AM ok,I'll start the furry ferry Paris.
plarq Apr 02, 2005, 09:17 AM 4000BC:Worker notice 3 furs,settler move to coast.
3950BC:Paris established,start warrior,BW in 26t
3700BC:Warrior explores,curragh.
3500BC:Arab scouts knocked at the door, only starting techs.warrior found spice N.
3200BC,Arab learned Masonry and Bronze Working.
3150BC,meet Iroquois,up BW,Pot and CB.I trade Alpha for BW,CB and 10g from Abu,trade Mas for Pot and 20g(Hiawatha meet another guy/gal) from Iroquois.Start on Writing at max.Start Collossus.
3000BC,found out that I started WC instead of Writing, swap cost 20 beakers.Next player can swap or continue WC.
Curragh spot Germany border?
Oh god,I've made another mistake,I should've started Writing at min in 3950BC!But what's done is done.Hope no foolish mistake next time.
Note:Moderate world setting,80% Pangaea. We should focus on commerce as an early OCC game..
plarq Apr 02, 2005, 09:27 AM A quick glance
Vizurok Apr 02, 2005, 10:43 AM I think we should continue WC if we started, it can be traded (for a low price :() .
Pros:
-the penninsula location is the second best for an OCC (islands are a bit better :D)
-our closest friends/potential enemies are not militaristic
-the Iroquis mainland is far away (now...)
-a luxury for trade
Cons:
-the Arabs are expansionist
-I wanted to avoid flat places... :D
-no BGs
Facts:
-We have 6 riverby tiles
-5 forests could be quite good in wonder races, but they give us the only shield production...
eldar Apr 02, 2005, 03:29 PM Continue with WC - if that is Germany, we should be able to pick up WC cheaply with Masonry. Then switch to Writing at max, not min.
plarq Apr 03, 2005, 06:31 AM and,may I ask,who is up now?
eldar Apr 03, 2005, 07:22 AM Think it's me.
Edit: Got it, playing, will do 20 as it's rather quick!
eldar Apr 03, 2005, 01:00 PM Done. I now have all contacts but 1 (Greece), the highlight of the set being two things:
1. Got IW from Korea, which got me WC from Arabia. I also bought a Worker off Arabia in that deal - they start with at least 1 free Worker at DG so I don't see this as an exploit.
2. Incas built the Colossus. I switched over to Pyramids. Babylon also got Writing before us, and Maths is out there too.
This may be very tough. 80% Pangaea is going to fill up quickly and we'll be the first to get stomped on with our sort-of-OCC.
Updated map, not much else to show:

Neil.
Vizurok Apr 03, 2005, 04:52 PM Who's up? Me? :D I will play my turns today evening...
The world seems pretty crowded before the second millenia, but I don't think that we will be attacked soon... claiming territory hasn't finished yet.
plarq Apr 05, 2005, 10:31 AM Ooops,I'm sorry that I must leave the game that I opened before.I don't think I'll have plenty time to play civ in this year, which can be calledGeneral Retirement year.
I'll return next April,in my estimate.RL isn't that easy,in fact,beyond Sid.
Whomp Apr 06, 2005, 03:36 PM Wow that kind of blew up. Sorry to see you go Plarq. Vizurok or Eldar we could use some team members here. Come join our dogpile.
