Welcome to the Term 2 Culture Consulate.

Consul: MOTH
Deputy: Xerol

Term 1 Thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=113002)

Current Term 2 Strategic Discussions will be:

1. How should we go about getting 129900 more culture?
2. Should we try and build any wonders?
3. Should we build some culture to try and reduce flip risk or just to expand borders?

We need culture badly on our border with India. The city there has no culture, and is next to the Indian capital. It's a flip risk.

Consul MOTH,

I know the available information is spotty, especially the starting dates of wonder construction, but could you provide an analysis of when any wonders which are being constructed by our immediate neighbors (India, Netherlands, China) might be completed? If we can time our desired conquests of our neighbors so that we capture wonders instead of destroying them, we can at least get their benefits even if we don't get the culture. :D

Also I noticed Rotterdam has expanded, which probably means the Dutch are building temples. Do we have anything to fear from their expanding culture?

Counsul,

In various threads we've started considering when we wish to switch governments. If we switch to monarchy or the republic, we lose the ability to pop rush. I suggest we think about rushing culture in several towns right before we change to another government. The downside, of course, is we temporarily decrease our population and we may decide that's undesirable. At any rate, this might make an interesting discussion thread.

Thanks for your consideration.

Flip risk: According to mapstat we have 3 towns with flip risk. The risk is between nearly 0 and 1 percent for each. Temples cost 60 shields, and so will probably not finish before we have tackled the danger by war. In the short term troops would be better.

Wonders: looks like we'll have no chance on Pyramids. Wonders are extremely expensive sources of culture and I would avoid them if the only purpose is culture.

How to reach 130K culture?
For example: if we have 100 cities with temple+library, then we generate 500 cpt, and need 260 turns. This will be less in practice due to culture doubling and additional culture buildings. For example, if we are in the 10yr/turn range, then culture doubles after 100 turns and we're looking at 180 turns of culture accumulation.

Another question is if we want to separate the phases of expansion and culture accumulation. Although that is perhaps most efficient, I would prefer to do them simultaneously, because I think that would be more fun.

I have noticed that this office is in sleap mode in the subject of wonders and sci leaders. Since there were no discussion threads regarding when we get a Scientific Leader and wonders. I have taken the inisiative to open up the discussion about it.

Please Join in and discuss :).

Actually, discussion on the use of GReat Leaders falls under the President's office. Still, thanks for starting this discussion.

Is it culture's plan to have a 130k culture win in one city? Because from the looks of it, we have ZERO!!!!! culture in all other cities!! That's a culture flip waiting to happen. We're in the middle ages, and not ONE city has a temple or library! Do we really want to be seen as a bunch of culture-less barbarians? ;) Or is this the "No Culture Challenge"?

Oxford has been pushing for culture for a while now. Were we to switch from the Rax to a temple, we could have it in 11 turns; 8 with micromanaging (I think)

Please. Let's get some more culture here. In all our cities.

Culture isn't our immediate priority, at least not across the board like it will eventually be, for the simple reason that we face the need to expand into the current Dutch territory now while there is a chance. If we degrade the upcoming war effort by trying to slip in culture now, we face a much bloodier conflict later.

After the Dutch war, just as soon as we can, we need to push temples in the larger cities. This will help with keeping the people happy and to start that groundswell which will eventually lead to cultural domination of the world.

Consul MOTH,

Do you have an estimate of the number of cities we'll need in order to achieve our cultural victory? This information would help the External Consulate plan how much territory we will need to annex, and thus which civs we should target.

Thanks!

Some other information which would be nice to have is which civs are cultural powerhouses so we can target them for culling.

Uhhh... but culture will expand our culture borders, allowing them to push into Dutch territory a little bit. Besides, we're risking a culture flip (or more) bigtime by having 0 culture.

It's a question of which order we do things in. We will attack the Dutch in about 5 turns or so (maybe less) , and capturing The Hague and Rotterdam are high on the list. Our current border towns need to produce at least one more military unit each for that purpose, maybe two.

Culture in the captured cities is absolutely a good idea, especially since we can pop rush after resistance ends.

Unless we have an urgent need there is no way we can keep up with any of the AIs in culture generation. There are few places where culture would gain more than a tile or two of dutch territory. The best way to eliminate the chance of a culture flip is to eliminate the Dutch.

@Bertie, I estimate we will need 100 to 200 cities. Some will depend on the actual domination limit of this map.
