Alright, this is both my first story game and my first real game. In the past, I've gotten up to Regent level where I could win consistently, but in those games I rigged the map so I got everything I needed. This time, it's for real.

Settings:

-Version: Conquests (don't know which version
-Civ: Iriqouis (traits modded to militiaristic and agricultural)
-Opponents: Random
-World: Modded so there isn't a lot of harsh climate types.
-Difficulty: Warlord  (I haven't played for about a year)
-AI Aggression at Less Aggressive
-Victory: Domination/Conquest but only Conquest will do for me

I have modded the game, so there will be a new govt: Socialist Democracy, combining the best of Fascism, Communism, and Democracy. Also, mountain terrain type has been given an extra shield over hills and tundra cannot support cities (should make fights for oil interesting.)

I shall play as honorably as possible. I will live up to all pacts, treaties etc. etc.

The beginning of the Iriqouis nation:

4500 BC- The Iriqouis people had roamed the earth for many years, hunting and gathering to survive. Little by little, the nomadic Iriqouis began to draw together as a people, living together in small gatherings of straw huts. The people begin to understand the concept of agriculture, farming crops and herding animals. Soon, they began to live entirely as communities, letting the old ways of living slip away. In 4000 BC, all Iriqouis peoples come together under a single great leader, known simply to them as DG. He rules them with an iron fist, bringing them together to look for a suitable place to settle down and create a civilization that will last beyond all others....

The great DG brought his people together to live amongst the abundant hills of the Grand River Valley. They had roamed this area for hundreds of years, but none had ever noticed the potential of the valley for sedentary life.

"Let us build a great city," shouted DG, "whose walls will buckle to no army! Let us build a city that will be spoken of for hundreds of years to come!"

Fifty years later, and a great city stood where once there had been nothing. The older citizens had died out, and the young did not know anything of the lands beyond their valley. Thus, the aging despot DG ordered for 100 of his bravest warriors to band together and explore the lands around them. They would then bring back any information they could gather, so that the Iriqouis people could know where best to spread their influence.

"My lord!"

"Yes, knave? What's so important that you interrupt my nap for it?"

"Well, sire, we've discovered a new, interesting use for that crappy metal in the hills! All this time we could've put it to good use if we had just heated, shaped, and hardened it! My assistants and I are teaching smiths in the city to work this stuff; we call it.......bronze."

DG paused for a moment to process this new information. If he was right in thinking that other peoples were settling as his had, he would need to build a strong military. And with this new metal-working, perhaps he could build up a new, stronger army.

"Very good. Continue on, then."

Meanwhile, warriors were readied and sent out to scout the lands around the great capitol city of Salamanca. They headed west, then south, blundering onto a small settlement of nomadic herders.

The nomads bestowed upon the warriors a crude map of the lands around them, revealing unknown, fertile grounds to the west. The map also revealed that there was a strange type of wood in the hills of the west that, when burned, produced a pleasing aroma. DG, upon hearing this news, selected "volunteers" to settle these new lands to the west.

"My lord!"

"Yes? What is so important that you interrupt my bath for it?"

"Well, sir, I've just come to tell you that the settlers we sent west found a place to live! They built their town on the Grand River. Ah, I don't know quite why, sir, seeing as there's no waterfalls there, but they're calling the city Niagara Falls."

"Very good. They can call the city anything they like. Head west and tell the people of Niagara Falls to begin construction of a barracks, that we might train our armies better. And bring me some tea."

"Yes sir. I'll be on my way."

Many years had passed. DG was happy; his people were organized and well-fed, his military was bristling. All in all, it's a pretty good run so far, he thought to himself.

Many cities had been built, and many generations had been born.

Grand River and Port Jackson in the east, Cojak Pass in the west. Port Jackson promised to be a powerful city when it matured, and Grand River held important terittory. (sp?) DG hoped that one day, the influence of Grand River and Niagara Falls would be sufficient to control the supplies of smelly wood in the southern hills.

"My lord!"

"Yes? Come on in, David."

DG had grown more sociable and gentle with age. DG now not only knew his faithful political advisor's name, but also that David was in fact his political advisor and not merely a messenger boy as he had assumed.

"Well, sir, it appears that those warriors you sent west all those years ago have made contact with another civilization! These people call themselves 'Spanish'. They inhabit the regions west beyond Cojak Pass, sir, and they have given us permission to examine their capitol city, Madrid!"

"Excellent work, David. Send word when they investigate the city."

"Hmmm.....It appears the Spanish have begun their civilization in a fortunate position. All that wheat, all those cattle....they shall be a powerful ally.....or a worthy opponent."

"I would say so, sir. What shall we do next?"

"Send settlers north and east. Let us expand, and let us thrive. And tell Norman to start trying to figure out a new type of government. This almighty-despot thing is gettin gold." (Norman was the name of his science advisor.)

"Right away, sir, right away."

"Ah, DG? Hate to bother you, sir, but some of the people from Cojak Pass have broken off and formed a new city northwest of here, at the source of a river they call the Regis. They've started building a barracks, sir, all by themselves!"

"Excellent. I suppose soon they will be able to dress themselves and tie their own shoes too, eh?"

"Ah, heh-heh. Yes, I suppose, sir. Meanwhile, we've established contact with two more great nations"

"Good. Send a messenger, I want to meet them."

"Wow...they suck. Seems they're kinda primitive, huh? Hardly even worth calling a civilization."

"Well, DG, sir, I really don't think that's neccessary. But yes, they are rather backwards. It's all good: we can sell our knowledge to them at disgusting prices!"

"Heh, heh. David, your silly hat and evil ways amuse me. I like your thinking. How we lookin' for expansion?"

"Pretty good, sir. We're keeping up with the Spanish, and most of our cities are much larger than theirs. Just judging by the technology gap between us, I'd say the Aztecs and Americans have few cities."

"Excellent. Carry on then."

I have a question..I've been seeing people with cities that have the city name, and then the nation name in ()

Like: Salamaca(Iroquios)

How does one get the city to display the nation name?
