CornMaster Dec 09, 2001, 04:25 PM Vote for your favorite flag here.
And just like the Nation name poll, please don't share the results.
(TF has disabled the img tag in polls, so your going to have to click each entry and open it in another window to compare them.)
Also any names/letters on the flag can be changed based on the Nation name chosen.

Well then you should have made a better one. ;)
But really...some of them do suck.....but there are 3 or 4 nice ones....and a lot of work went into them....so you shouldn't diss them.....expecally since you didn't make one.
But it's your right as a citizen. ;)

LOL!!! Good point. :D
jumbo2002 Dec 09, 2001, 07:39 PM Hey, what about having the major color on the winning flag determine which color our civ is?
Apollo Dec 09, 2001, 08:28 PM In case people missed it in the other thread, here is the description of the flag I'm suggesting:
This flag has the standard 1x2 dimensions that is the norm among nations today. It's three colors represent the three versions of Civ, each occupying an equal space on the flag. The 50 small stars are for the 50 members of our nation, and can be added to if our nation grows. The eight points on the central sun are for the eight divisions of our governing council, and finally the sun itself represents our unified strengths and abilities in the form of our nation.

I said no petitioning in the voting threads. ;)

Well I just did some additional research and found the true ratio of international flags: there is none!
All flags of countries with British origins (US, Canada, Australia, UK, etc.) use 1x2. This also means that in an atlas or map made in one of these countries all flags will be adjusted to such proportions, hence my confusion. In other countries there is a wide variety of flag proportions.
And Corn: sorry :o . I didn't consider that petitioning, I considered that "informing." Man I'm already sounding like a politician...
Pellaken Dec 09, 2001, 08:54 PM actually,
1:2
and
3:5
are the 2 most commen flag ratios. 1:2 is british and 3:5 american
there is no official ratio though

You are!!
It must be catching. :D
But really....people are going to make mistakes....and we just have to work through them. When I inform people that they are doing stuff against the rules....I hope they don't take it hostily. I'm just reminding them....and of course..the rules can change. I was talking to Duck tonight...we may have to make 1 turn = 2 days later in the game...depending on how big our Nation becomes.
Pellaken Dec 09, 2001, 08:58 PM uh.. yea... I wanna propose a rule change to make Pellaken lord high executioner of titti-pu :) only ceremonial powers, of course
^joke^
Juize Dec 09, 2001, 08:58 PM Notice to my geography teacher: You are dead.
duke o' york Dec 10, 2001, 05:12 AM Isn't this poll totally pointless at this stage? Why on Earth would I want to vote for (this is an example, not petitioning) a state called Stregron that has a flag with Freedonia in big letters on it? Surely the flag should be designed with the name of the civ in mind, once that has been chosen? Or this could just give us an idea of the abilities of our flag designers and we could vote, on the basis of these examples, for the person who has the honour of designing our country's flag once the name of the civ has been chosen. They need not include the name of the civ on the flag (how many countries actually do?) but will at least be working with the right name should they want to.

Well think. IF AofA wins, then he changes the letters to the name. READ FIRST POST
duke o' york Dec 10, 2001, 10:22 AM Be that as it may, but if I were designing a flag then I would want something different for a country called Freedonia than for one called The Bloodthirsty and All-Conquering Civfanatics.
CornMaster Dec 10, 2001, 11:27 AM The results of our first National Election are in.

Were developing a system in which to e-mail users about the opening and closing of polls and suggestions...
Sixchan Dec 10, 2001, 11:57 AM The votes are in and have been counted.
The Name: United Fanatica
The Flag: AoA's 'freedonia'

Erm shouldn't we have 2nd elections between 2 winners?
(I think that definetly yes, and CM said so, didn't he?...)
EDIT: Oops, no need for that, AofA:s nomination got over 50% of votes. Case closed.
Well, Cornmasters AND Sixchans flags got 0 votes! And mine only 3
I Should've use the other flag and then I would have something like 25% of votes...
Oh well.
Sixchan Dec 10, 2001, 12:12 PM (I think that definetly yes, and CM said so, didn't he?...)
Huh? Really? Where?
(from the rules)
Elections:
Terms last 30 turns
Two terms maximum in a row at one position. But can be elected for other positions at end of two terms. Also can get former position once out of it for a term.
President can only be elected from remaining cabinet members. Other department heads are elected from the general players. Runner-ups for department heads automatically become deputy leaders for that area, for the term.
On turn 24 of the term, nominations begin. On turn 29 the information officer would post polls for all positions of nominated members. On turn 31 a winner is declared, and a new term begins. We will allow Self-Nomination.
I don't see it!
CornMaster Dec 10, 2001, 12:23 PM No Juize...that was Pellakens idea. And although it's a good idea....one day is not enough time to have two elections on one item....I mean...be didn't even get a 100% turnout in ONE day.

Well... why we cannot have 2-day elections???
This SUCKS!
There should be a 2nd run for 2 best, not maybe in these polls, cause they had 50% majority,
but otherwise this crap will lead to the situation where nobody will vote their favourites,
they just vote the not-so-worst-one from the 2 most voted.
This will eventually lead to situation where 5 first voters will say how the poll will work.
CornMaster Dec 10, 2001, 12:55 PM Originally posted by Juize

Because this was posted on Sunday and the Game started on Monday.
No time for 2 day elections.
All other polls are only going to be like half days. Except for election for office. Which are two days.
I posted runner's up to congratulate both people. If it offends you so much...I'll only post one...sheesh.

No, no, It doesn't offend me, it was a mistake. Sorry. :)
(perhaps I should always a smiley to indicate that I'm not mad?)
(oh, yeah: :))
CornMaster Dec 10, 2001, 01:09 PM Well...here is the final version of the flag.
(I touched up yours Sixchan, and used the font AoA thought was best. Well...I don't have the font he wanted...but this was runner-up I guess. ;)
Witchfinder Dec 10, 2001, 01:16 PM Hmmm... If we're having half-day polls, can we please post them first thing in the morning, so that the Queen's subjects have a chance to vote? :)
amadeus Dec 11, 2001, 09:44 PM I'm glad you didn't use the flag that had the "F U" on it...I can't imagine that helping our relations with diplomats in our country.
Pellaken Dec 11, 2001, 10:03 PM Juize, we had a vote on my voting system, if I recall, corn's idea passed with 50%+1+ {a majority}

This is not going to work ...if we post in the mornig All north americans wont be able to vote.:(
dreadhead7 Dec 12, 2001, 01:51 AM Say, this is jacked! I couldn't vote because I couldn't view the flags. Every time I tried to do so, I'd get an error message, and Explorer would be shut down. Can't we just post the pics next time, instead of having a link? Heck, I didn't even get to see the dang flags!!! Aaaarrrggghhh!:(

I put the -img- tag around the address but it wouldn't display in the poll. When I went and editted it it said that the -img- tag was disabled. Not much else I could do.
