i suggest we settle in spot B here, but spot A is also good. but if we settle in spot B, we might get an extra resource to our city.

Definitely site B. There may be more resources that we can't see yet and B would be in the centre of the resource seed from the pattern. Are we allowed to cheat and look at the large map to find out where we are in the world and then use the pattern to work out where the resources are? Naughty, but nice, so nice later in the game. :D. Even if you don't want to cheat like this, then it'd be nice to know whereabouts in the world we are so we know which way to explore. I like site B because if we get a harbour and an offshore platform then we can still benefit from the sea squares and the whale, but also have more land squares to irrigate or mine as we see fit. We're also protected against naval attacks from the west at least.

Normally B but would consider the proximity to the AI and whether that coast is a lake or not.
