View Full Version : Term 3 - Nominations for President
Strider Apr 22, 2005, 06:27 PM Please post, any nominations for the poistion of president. The President has the following Duties:
Leads discussions crossing over multiple
areas of different Consuls. He/she will also decide on
any strategic tasks not designated to another consul
in this constitution. The President is the primary
designated player. He/she has the following
responsibilities, and may appoint a citizen to oversee
a responsibility: Naming of Cities and Units,
Elections, and Polling Standards. These appointed
officials remain in office until removed by a
President. The President also leads discussion on how
to use military and scientific great leaders.
Ginger_Ale Apr 22, 2005, 06:41 PM I will nominate DaveShack, and Chieftess.
greekguy Apr 22, 2005, 06:46 PM i second DS.
Strider Apr 22, 2005, 06:49 PM I second Chieftess and also nominate Civanator
mhcarver Apr 22, 2005, 06:54 PM I Nominate regentman, he did great work as the R and T consul and did an exceptional job when he filled in as DP I also second/third the above candidates
vikingruler Apr 22, 2005, 07:16 PM i second chieftess.
RegentMan Apr 23, 2005, 02:03 AM I Nominate regentman, he did great work as the R and T consul and did an exceptional job when he filled in as DP
I thank you for the nomination. Playing that one round as DP showed me how much work and time is involved; heck I just did it for one night. Currently, I don't think that I'll have the proper amount of time to organize turnchats and run the country. Maybe in the future, but not right now. I thank you again for the nomination, but I feel that I must decline. If I go for the presidency, I want to make sure that I do it well.
RoboPig Apr 23, 2005, 09:10 AM i 4th chieftess
classical_hero Apr 23, 2005, 09:22 AM I nominate nobody. I remember his signature said that he wanted to be Pres this term, if my memory stands correct. It would be a great change to have someone new as Pres and on a different timezone.
CivGeneral Apr 23, 2005, 03:46 PM I Fifth Chieftess
Chieftess Apr 23, 2005, 03:48 PM I'll accept. I haven't seen DaveShack or anyone else accept yet...
CivGeneral Apr 23, 2005, 03:49 PM also nominate Civanator
Speeking of Civanator, I have not seen him in a while. I guess School has gotten the better of him ;).
Nobody Apr 23, 2005, 07:40 PM I nominate nobody.
although i did really consider it, i mean if i came second atleast i get to be VP. but as i have seen cheiftess is runnning and she normall has crazy turnchat times that work well for downunder's. and there no chance that i would win, and it is kinda scary what would happpen to any nation i was head of. i Decline. and #th cheiftess
Bertie Apr 23, 2005, 08:37 PM DaveShack has been an excellent president, and in the past I know Chieftess has also done a good job. I second both.
I'd also like to nominate Furiey.
greekguy Apr 23, 2005, 08:39 PM I second Furiey.
mad-bax Apr 24, 2005, 02:49 AM I third Furiey. A month without 1am and 5am turnchats (for me) would be swell. I'm not a selfish person but hey!!
Furiey Apr 24, 2005, 05:47 AM Thank you for the nominations, I didn't expect it as I've not exactly been very active until the last week or so (patching to 1.22 has certainly helped). I must admit I would love to have another go at this job and am very tempted to accept now, but to be fair, I must try and work out my schedule for the coming month first - I will not take the job on if I do not think I will have sufficient time to do it justice. So I'd better say Undecided for now.
DaveShack Apr 24, 2005, 10:43 AM Thank you to everyone for the nomination and seconds. My schedule is going to become very hectic next month, right on schedule, and the CoC would get a lot of opportunities to play. I will remain Undecided for now and see if anyone else accepts so the Presidency would be contested, and watch the CJ position to see if it is contested.
Edit on second though, I'll decline here and accept CJ. Chieftess would make a fine President, but I would like to strongly encourage someone else to run, as it is far more fun to know you're the choice of the people and not just the only one who didn't take a step back. :)
DaveShack Apr 24, 2005, 11:31 AM I nominate Provolution and MOTH.
Black_Hole Apr 24, 2005, 01:29 PM I second Provolution, Moth, and Furiey. Lets get a big competition here!
edit: actually 4h Furiey
Donovan Zoi Apr 24, 2005, 02:43 PM I would like to nth Furiey for President. Not only does she have a solid grasp of the game, she is also an honorable stateswoman who is very familiar with the chat environment. During her past tenures as President, I have known her to be forever cordial and fair to the people of Fana-whatever-it-was-that-game. ;)
Please step forward to lead us, Furiey, so that we may continue on the same path that President DaveShack has blazed for us.
MOTH Apr 24, 2005, 03:09 PM Thanks for the nominations. I must decline for 3 reasons:
1. I will be away for 3 weeks in May.
2. I don't own C3C so could not operate as DP.
3. Damn it, I had a 3rd reason and can't remember it 30 seconds later. I'm getting old and senile...
Curufinwe Apr 24, 2005, 04:56 PM Which could in and of itself work as a third reason, Moth, :D
Furiey Apr 24, 2005, 05:12 PM Ah but that third reason could rule out far too many of us :crazyeye:
Provolution Apr 24, 2005, 05:45 PM I may consider to try President this time around, due to the new economic budgeting mechanism. However, I may also like to see a DP player that can operate as a professional turnplayer as a Vice President candidate (de Facto Prime Minister). (Possibly I will appoint Chieftess as VP turnplayer)
The reason that I can handle the economics long term is simple, I am simply trained at forecasting and will use excel charts to present this to the people in an orderly fashion. Yet, I will step aside if Furiey decides to run for Presidency.
I also thank for all the nominations posted.
Octavian X Apr 24, 2005, 09:20 PM That's a disappiontment - three-way races are always so much more exciting! Consider this post, then, another call on both Provolution and Furiey to run.
I'll nominate Strider, since if anyone comes to mind when it comes to dedication to this game, it's him.
Lastly, though I doubt he'll accept it, I'll nominate mad-bax. His work as External Consul over the last month impressed me, and I'm confident he'd make a fine President.

I doubt Strider would accept the nomination since it seems that he is dead set on running for CJ.

I have to decline, I've ran for this poistions several times (and the majority of the times against Chieftess). I enjoy being Vice President, but running for this just to get VP is alittle bit to risky (Hey! It could happen!).
CT knows what she's doing, and has proven herself one of the most capable Presidents in demogame history. This poistion is in very good hands.
Anyway, I'd prefer to put my efforts into newbie guides, Freedom of Information, etc. this term. I do thank you for the complementary doughnut though.
Provolution Apr 24, 2005, 09:54 PM okay, competition is healthy :D
Nobody Apr 24, 2005, 10:01 PM I second (or what ever ) provolution. You never accept when i nominate you,
Provolution Apr 24, 2005, 10:02 PM I accept this time Nobody. I had to run for CJ last time in order to avoid Blackheart getting a named city.
Provolution Apr 24, 2005, 10:48 PM okay, this is my program:
1. I am prettier than Helen Clark, New Zealand, and look good in uniform
2. I am bannable and that is good for checks of balances
3. I have never been a President before
4. I will present the State of the Nation report after each turnchat
5. I can be entertaining and interesting if allowed to be that way
6. I am the first European President for ages
7. I am confident we will win this game with sound and detailed long term planning
8. I have moderated myself badly, and quit flaming guilty and non guilty people
9. I want to assure that the Alternative Model is maintained and perfected
10. I will refine the operations of the Presidency with budgetary economic planning
DaveShack Apr 24, 2005, 11:44 PM Cool, a contested race. :)
I will hold off a bit on endorsing anyone, to see if Furiey accepts and to get answers for a couple of debate rounds. Must go think about questions... ;)
Nobody Apr 25, 2005, 02:30 AM 1. I am prettier than Helen Clark, New Zealand, and look good in uniform
2. I am bannable and that is good for checks of balances
3. I have never been a President before
1. We havent seen you picture yet to compare with the right honarable helen clark.
2. its just a shame one of your competitors has the power to ban you.
3. i have never been the prime minister of new zealand before. does that mean helen should hand over the job
MOTH Apr 25, 2005, 07:56 AM Question for the candidates:
What are you thought on the current Unit naming laws? Is this a failed experiment that should be discontinued? Should any reforms be put in place to lessen the overhead while still allowing the spirit of the idea to be enacted?
Provolution Apr 25, 2005, 11:51 AM I think the naming law should have a naming convention including the type of unit and so on. However, we need the citizens to accept a reform in order to lose these rights.
I would still like a law polling series of city names, and not use rank.
On another note, we will quickly reach 150 units named or so anyways, then we could change the unit naming laws, possibly to an Army Group based, but in order to do that, we may need a law on military organization for the commander.
The lack of detail in the constitution is our nightmare.
Furiey Apr 25, 2005, 02:26 PM OK, I've gone through my work calendar as best I can and although things are always subject to change it look like this is the best opportunity I've had since this time last year. So, I will Accept this nomination. :D
Black_Hole Apr 25, 2005, 03:29 PM I also need some more debate questions before I decide on a candiate... Must think...
(To The Candiates) How often would you use your right to create offline turn playing?
Furiey Apr 25, 2005, 04:11 PM To answer the questions so far:
From MOTH, Unit naming laws.
These obviously have a few problems that need working out, we need to be able to identify what each unit is for a start, I learnt when renaming my own units to always include the unit type in the name!
How long we will be able to keep it up will depend on how many units we start building and how long it starts to take to rename them all. I wouldn't want to give up on the naming yet without at least having a go myself (although adding a unit identifier would help) and can see that it could even aid in giving instructions with clearer identification of units. If the time taken to rename becomes too great then we could consider only naming groups of units or naval units, stopping after going once through the citizen registry is also an option. I'm no stranger to long play sessions (although I don't suppose they'll be as long as the last time I was President), but I will certainly raise the issue if the time taken becomes too great to the detriment of the gameplay.
From Black_Hole, Offline turn playing.
I would intend to play all my sessions on-line, after all my Civ PC is the same one I use for the internet, and it makes little difference time-wise to me whether I type what I do into a chat window or into Word for a log. I have always enjoyed the chats and although I believe the decisions must be made in the forum, the chats are an important social part of the demogame, and hopefully comments and suggestions from the attendees will stop me from making too many bloopers!
In the case of special sessions eg: to establish an Embassy or perform a specific trade, although this could be very simply be done off-line, it also takes very little to fire up mIRC and be on-line, so even in those circumstances I would expect to play on-line.
The only circumstances I can think of that I may do offline actually relates to MOTH's question above - renaming units. If we add a Unit Type Identifier to all our Unit names, then this would take some time to do, it would also take time when they are upgraded to change the identifier. But I think I would probably fire up mIRC anyway even in that case.
Rik Meleet Apr 25, 2005, 04:28 PM Thread closed, discuss further in the election thread.
