Strider Apr 22, 2005, 06:34 PM Please post any nominations for the Consul of R&T Policy, or any debate questions you may have. The Consul of R&T Policy has the following duties:
Decides on long term tech queues, long term resource policies, long term fiscal policies.
mhcarver Apr 22, 2005, 06:58 PM I nominate Truckingpete and Stuck as a Mac
greekguy Apr 22, 2005, 07:08 PM I nominate RegentMan and second truckingpete and Stuck as a Mac.
vikingruler Apr 22, 2005, 07:20 PM i second RegentMan.
Rik Meleet Apr 22, 2005, 07:29 PM It's time for me to take a more active part in this game as especially trade is neglected. We lack 2 of the most important ancient age techs, The Republic and Literature, as well as the luxuries we require to keep our nation happy with lower lux-slider settings.
I admit, I don't know what the short term goals are at the moment, but there is something not right with the longterm goals.
The long term goals should be: getting as many techs as cheap as possible, revolt to Republic and get the neccesary luxes to create and sustain a 0% lux-slider setting. We then have a choice between going full science or full tax.
With that decision made we can further plan our future. It can be Wonders, military domination, sea-exploring, resource monopolising or who knows what.
But first our base needs to be founded properly and that can only be done with long-term planning.
I nominate myself for this position and Accept.
Ginger_Ale Apr 22, 2005, 07:49 PM Got my vote! :goodjob:
I was going to nominate you for President as the ISDG is slowing down, but I wasn't sure if you were interested in this. Glad to see you.
RegentMan Apr 23, 2005, 01:59 AM Wow, this will be a fun election! :D I accept my nomination.
Rik Meleet Apr 23, 2005, 05:50 AM Wow, this will be a fun election! :D I accept my nomination.RM vs RM
Provolution Apr 23, 2005, 10:21 AM Rik, and Regentman is indeed 17-18 years old, he is just much much brighter than many of his peers :D
zyxy Apr 23, 2005, 10:41 AM I will nominate MOTH.
RegentMan Apr 23, 2005, 12:25 PM RM vs RM
Well, it gives voters an out. If they don't want to say for whom they voted for, all they need to do is type "I voted for RM."
Regentman is indeed 17-18
Just turned 17 5/12 on the 18th! :D
truckingpete Apr 23, 2005, 04:54 PM I Accept my nomination.
Time for round 3!
MOTH Apr 23, 2005, 08:10 PM I will nominate MOTH.
Thanks for the nomination. I must decline as I will be away for close to 3 weeks with unknown internet capabilities.
RoboPig Apr 23, 2005, 08:21 PM i back trucking pete
EDIT: Now i am running, no more support for you truckingpete!
mad-bax Apr 24, 2005, 02:55 AM I honestly don't know who to vote for in this election. Can't push a cigarette paper between you.
Think I'll vote for the candidate who posts the best joke. :D
... or alternatively answers this question to my liking...
Smiths trading company would trigger our GA. How would we go about acquiring the necessary tech to obtain this wonder? (might be a trick question :mischief: )

Think I'll vote for the candidate who posts the best joke. :D (..) - Then I am in a good position as humor is one of my strentghs. Just waiting for the correct moment to post the joke ..

Smiths trading company would trigger our GA. How would we go about acquiring the necessary tech to obtain this wonder? (might be a trick question :mischief: ) - I'll answer that after checking and analyzing the exact position we are in. Unfortunately that is only known when the last turnchat of the term has been completed.
RegentMan Apr 24, 2005, 12:22 PM Smiths trading company would trigger our GA. How would we go about acquiring the necessary tech to obtain this wonder? (might be a trick question :mischief: )
Humorous answer: We trade for it.
Smartdonkey answer: We research it.
Serious answer: Our policy right now is to conquer as much land as we can under the domination limit. This means less money given towards science or a mad rush to military tradition. I've always advocated for high science, and we could grab economics relatively quickly should we beeline for it. However, as I mentioned before, our policy won't allow that. Thus, we'll need to trade for it (ironically ;) ). :) (By the by: Smith's is my favorite wonder in the game. I would love it if we could acquire it.)
YNCS Apr 24, 2005, 04:22 PM SaaM, are you in this race?

I'll get back on that joke one :D
Well, to get it, we can get in 3 ways:
1. War - if we are winning, we can demand it for peace, or demand it and go to war
2. Trade- Trade in a normal way with the best deal from the best Civ.
3. Research - We research it ourselves. We would get it faster if we go max for the entire time or almost the entire time to get it.
For me, I would pick the the trade one. But we can always research it, or get it by force..:D
zyxy Apr 25, 2005, 04:58 AM Two more questions (for all candidates):
1. Please describe your policy on tech acquisition. What will you aim for (if anything), and how will we get it?
2. What is your position on the trade of resources (buy and sell)?
Rik Meleet Apr 25, 2005, 06:33 AM Two more questions (for all candidates):
1. Please describe your policy on tech acquisition. What will you aim for (if anything), and how will we get it?
2. What is your position on the trade of resources (buy and sell)?Disclaimer; I haven't checked the latest saves yet
1). Republic (trade or research) and Literature. With the libraries and the extra commerce that comes from The Republic we can turn the English on a good research path. After that bee-line to Astronomy for 3 reasons, of which 2 are significant in this game. 1 - Sea trade (not important in this game), 2 - save sea travel (for a hidden invasion and general dominance in the sea), 3 - Copernicus; for extra research.
2). Trade all that can be traded. Exception: near gifting. Also techs should be traded around a lot as that creates better relations with the others, thus reducing the chances for sneak attacks thus we get to pick our wars instead of being forced into them. Also it is far cheaper to obtain techs through trade and with nfer1's than it is to self-research every tech.
Resources are slightly less important to trade around, if we can afford it. The art of withholding luxes and resources is a deliquate one. Luxes need to be imported if they are cheaper than a 10% decrease in the lux-slider rate. Resources only when immediately needed, or when they are scarce. The export of resources should nearly always be done, except if the importer is on our hitlist. Luxes exporting is a political thing. Both the exporting of luxes as well as the withholding of them to certain civs can cause havoc on the said civ. Luxes can be used to destabilize all nations - if used properly.
For my (tech-)trading skills I refer to this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=106205), where I was the trade-examinator for a team of players who wanted to reach the Emperor level.
RegentMan Apr 25, 2005, 08:38 AM Please describe your policy on tech acquisition. What will you aim for (if anything), and how will we get it?
I am all for self, high speed research. To do so, we'll need libraries. Acquiring literature and building libraries after the Dutch war will be vital. After that, I would like to see a dash for economics (for Smith's) or to navigation (for map trading). Of course, t'is up to you, the voter.
What is your position on the trade of resources (buy and sell)?
Buy only the resources that we need. Sell our excess luxuries for a significant profit. Sell strategic resources only for specific reasons (for instance, selling the Maya iron in order to instigate a war over there).
RoboPig Apr 25, 2005, 09:17 AM since director of commerce will cease to exist soon i nominate my self and accept!
RoboPig Apr 25, 2005, 10:52 AM Please Describe Your Policy On Technology Aquisition. What Will You Aim For, How Will We Get It?
I will aim for military techs, gunpowder, chivalry even navigation for a better map. Also an increase in the science funding would be nice since we are working really low on science. BTW no trading with nations that have stressed relations with.
What is your position on the trade of resources (buy and sell)?
I will make trades that allow our allies to have the necessary strategic resources. Luxuries will be ours!!! This will allow for more science funding. As i have said before no resource trading with countries that have stressed relations with us.
FredBob Apr 25, 2005, 03:02 PM go robopig!!
RoboPig Apr 25, 2005, 03:07 PM thank you!
Rik Meleet Apr 25, 2005, 04:29 PM Thread closed, discuss further in the election thread.
