View Full Version : problem: Immortal upgrades to Sheik (who builds armies)

I've created a mod where the Persian Immortal upgrades to a new unit, the Sheik, which is marked as a "king" unit, and can build an army.

I'm giving all UUs extra abilities. The Persian Immortal has no ability other than the "upgrade to" entry is SHEIK. The Sheik, now, is a King unit (supposedly unbuildable) that has Attack 0 Defense 0 and can build an army. Leader is NOT marked. King IS marked.

Well, I built an Immortal in a city with a Barracks. The very turn I built it, it did NOT show up in the city screen, but instead, the build queue showed SHIEK! The math makes sense: Shiek in 95 turns, which would be correct since Bagdad has a 10 Sh/turn and the Sheik costs 1000 shield (with 40 shields for the Immortal + 10 shields for 1 turn build...)

Is this a bug? How can I have Immortals actually appear, and participate in combat, only to eventually be upgraded to Sheik? Instead of disappearing once built, only to hobble the barracks city with a 95-turn build?

Scenario Properties:
Cult-Linked Start; Vict Pt Scoring; Allow Cult Conversions; NO regicide or regicide-all-kings; Auto-place Capture Units; Retain Culture on Capture

Sheik stats:
Standard Orders...
Special Actions:
Load-Unload-Airlift-Build Army

Available to: Arabia, Persia

Unit Abilities:Foot Unit; King

Immortal stats:
Standard Orders...
Special Actions:
Load-Unload-Airlift-Pilliage-Upgrade Unit-Capture (upgrade to Sheik)

Unit Abilities: Foot Unit; Starts Golden Age
************************************************** ****

I thought that marking a unit as "king" meant it cannot be built. ???

How can I set up the Immortal to appear when built, participate in battle, and when I choose, allow to upgrade to Sheik??

Well, for a start, if the immortal upgrades to a sheik, and all the resources are available to build a Sheik, then the city will build sheiks. it's like riflemen and infantry. if you have rubber and oil (or whatever the resources are!) infantry units will be built.

you could get around this by just giving the immortal the build army ability, and attack and defence values. i think that might work.

i could be wrong, tho. just trying to help :)
