View Full Version : Xbox 360 pics are out MeteorPunch Apr 24, 2005, 02:11 PM http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6361.cfm Dreadnought Apr 24, 2005, 03:47 PM What...I just got the regular one! Silverflame Apr 24, 2005, 08:12 PM What...I just got the regular one! Sorry to say, but the Xbox 360 hits by the end of the year and will NOT play current Xbox games. It's also very likely that one of its launch titles will be Halo 2.5, which is the same game only with better graphics. As for the Xbox 360 itself, it does look nice. Very similar to the iPod look. Although I have to say that "Xbox 360" is one horrible, horrible name. I still can't help but think it's a joke. Dreadnought Apr 25, 2005, 04:40 AM Lets hope it isn't called that! Thrawn Apr 25, 2005, 08:00 AM The XBOX 2 is codenamed Xenon. These shots are either fake or old. As for the xbox2 itself, it's being launched on MTV on May 12. More info. I have old system, so I guess they still make games for it...right? My opinion: There is the new Microsoft Xbox 2/360/NeXt, Sony PS3, and Nintendo Revolution. Nintendo is saying their system will "Revolutionize" the way games are played, but they have kept their info top secret. I've been a PC gamer the last few years, but what I've seen and heard, the graphics on these new systems will absolutely blow everything (PC) away for a year or two. The graphics cards they are using are next-gen compared to PC's current top of the line. Resolutions are formatted for HDTV. To me buying a system is soley for the games. Right now I'm happy with PC games and I can't stand playing FPS' with a controller, so I doubt I'll get any of these new systems unless they truly "Revolutionize." "Xbox 360" is, at least up to this point, the official name of the system. Obviously we won't know for sure until the MTV unveiling, and of course, E3. Also, pictures of the memory cards for the system have been leaked. This confirms the rumor that the Xbox 360 will launch in two forms- one with the harddrive and one without. http://media.teamxbox.com/games/ss/1141/1114401745.jpg http://media.teamxbox.com/games/ss/1141/1114223718.jpg Silverflame Apr 26, 2005, 12:38 AM More stuff: http://xboxmedia.ign.com/xbox/image/article/607/607265/xbox-360-update-42505-20050425042458413-001.jpg http://xboxmedia.ign.com/xbox/image/article/607/607265/xbox-360-update-42505-20050425083346263-000.jpg You can find the full article about everything currently known about the Xbox 360 over here: http://xbox.ign.com/articles/607/607265p2.html?fromint=1 777 Apr 26, 2005, 04:13 AM Is it possible to watch DVD movies with new XBOX? It was quite laughable that you had to buy separate appliance to watch DVDs. But the thing is, is it more wise to buy new XBOX platform (or other console) or to upgrade computer to 64 tech. Which I think is quite expensive. highflyin213 Apr 26, 2005, 07:17 PM Sorry to say, but the Xbox 360 hits by the end of the year and will NOT play current Xbox games. It's also very likely that one of its launch titles will be Halo 2.5, which is the same game only with better graphics. I have heard that there will be two versions. One would be the cheaper version and the other would have backwards compatibility and a hard drive. I also doubt and kind of hope that Halo 2.5 is not a launch title. I want originally games not a updated version of Halo 2. Chukchi Husky Apr 27, 2005, 08:55 AM I heard there will only be two controller ports... Wolfe Tone Apr 27, 2005, 12:55 PM XBox 360? What a crappy name. They appear to have missed out 2-359 :D If wireless controllers are going to be standard in the next generation of consoles I hope they provide some sort of charging station and battery packs (minimum two per controller.) I don't want to have to change the regular batteries. It would get expensive unless you bought rechargeble batteries. Smash Apr 27, 2005, 01:12 PM I don't really see what the big deal is.An MTV launch party?...geez..this thing ain't gonna cure cancer. It looks...like...a....gaming console!...whoopee! I definitely will be buying a next generation console but it won't be this one....nor Nintendo's .Wonder which one that leaves ;) If it is like the time this generation of consoles came out, there won't be much use buying for at least a few months. The early games are usually horrible. Developers just get to the point where they can max out a console's potential with amazing stuff and its time to move on again.Grrr I sure hope wireless controllers isn't the next big thing. They never work well and,as mentioned, who is gonna buy all the batterys? MeteorPunch Apr 27, 2005, 01:20 PM I think they'll be ready for the technology this time. As someone who's been playing games since 8bit Nintedo, I feel this is *it.* The level of technology: HDTV, graphics, internet capability are all in place for the "best gaming ever™." ...yeah, my expectations are through the roof :D . Smash Apr 27, 2005, 01:30 PM Oh yes.We are very excited about this next generation of consoles.I have been gaming since PONG.Never have I had the kind of power these boxes are gonna have. I am fairly certain that the Sony console will launch with a new GTA game.Just the thought gets me giddy. Silverflame Apr 27, 2005, 07:30 PM So it seems the Xbox 360 WILL be backwards compatible, after all. This does cause a minor problem for current Xbox owners, as they will have to buy a new harddrive for the 360, and abandoning their old saved files as they do so. However, it is a plus, and I will definitely consider picking one up, provided there's enough games to be released on the system other than Halo 2.5. http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22839 As for wireless controllers, battery life really shouldn't be a problem. I know the Wavebirds for the Gamecube can go for around 100 hours before a battery change is needed, which for me averages about once a year. A rechargable battery would mean the thing would have to be constantly recharged, and I don't think anything could be more annoying than having a bunch of friends coming over to have a big console game party, only to find that the wireless controllers have to be recharged. 777 Apr 28, 2005, 01:41 PM I'm still asking it is possible to watch VD movies with out separate appliance? Silverflame Apr 28, 2005, 09:44 PM Not sure. But quite frankly, I'd prefer a seperate add-on. I don't want to pay extra money for a crappy DVD player included in a game console when I already have three of them that are MUCH better. Strider Apr 28, 2005, 10:14 PM XBox 2? Microsoft screwed up, badly. They lost nvidia graphic cards by trying to force them to lower the price, and ATI refuses to deal with them. So now, nvidia is working on the GPU for the PlayStation 3 (and there currently saying it will be the MOST POWERFUL graphics card they have ever produced). XBox 2? Ha, I'll go with the Dual-Core 64 bit 4.0 ghz multi-OS Playstation 3. When you have Sony, IBM, and Toshiba all working on the Playstation 3, and putting in close to 4 billion into it's production. Well, not even microsoft can compare to that. Silverflame Apr 30, 2005, 01:27 AM It was pretty much a given that the Xbox 360 would have considerably less power than the PS3, considering that the next Xbox will be released a full year earlier. It seems Sony and Microsoft have switched positions in this next-gen regarding console power, as the new Xbox will release a year earlier than the rest- just as the PS2 did. Whether the Xbox 360 will suceed to secure a huge fanbase to dominate the next generation or fail miserably like the Dreamcast is anyone's guess at the moment. Silverflame May 07, 2005, 07:05 PM What a hideous looking console. Not to mention that the controller looks exactly the same as the controller-S. Unless Perfect Dark Zero will be at store shelves at launch (something I doubt will happen until at least 2015), I seriously doubt I'll be picking one of these up. http://xbox.advancedmn.com/images/media/xbox360.jpg http://xbox.advancedmn.com/images/media/xbox360controller.jpg http://xbox.advancedmn.com/images/media/xbox360remote.jpg Silverflame May 13, 2005, 12:24 AM The Xbox 360 special thing was today. I didn't care much for it. Here's a site with a bunch of boring specs that I don't care about. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/peripheralsfactsheet.htm Using optimized technology, the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller lets you enjoy a 30-foot range and up to 40 hours of life on two AA batteries—and when they run low, you're given ample warning so you can connect a Play & Charge cable for uninterrupted play. That's probably the only thing of note. The Wavebird gives roughly 100 hours for the same amount of batteries. In short, the Xbox 360 looks like crap so far. It's still too early to make judgments, but I'm most likely not going to get one of these. Azale May 13, 2005, 06:16 AM I hope Nintendo releases some pics or something soon to generate some buzz, nintendo needs to do better. I sense that if thier next console goes bust, they might just stick to gameboy and 3rd party developing... Syterion May 15, 2005, 05:31 PM Nintendo won't go bust for a long time. They make an actual profit from the things they sell, unlike the Xbox and PS2 right now and they have I think 2 or 3 billion dollar surplus saved up(Which is a lot for a gaming-only company). They also have a devoted fanbase and own the portables market and their franchises are famous. As for the 360, Halo 2.5 is supposed to come with it, it has DVD capability, and it is a very stupid sounding name. Silverflame May 17, 2005, 05:54 PM I think the Xbox 360 is toast. Its graphics are nothing compared to the PS3. Its biggest launch title, Perfect Dark Zero, pulled a no-show at E3 (unsuprising) and knowing Rare, probably won't finish until at least 2010. Halo 3 is supposed to hit much later. So the Xbox 360's one year lead has been wasted. I wouldn't be suprised if the Xbox 360 ends up like the Dreamcast. Even their controllers look the same. |
