I have tried out the demo for Rome and feels it is terrible. I do not know how on earth GameSpot gives this game 9.1.

C3C for me,

I just like having modern armies.

I'll have to say it's C3C.

I like the Total War games, but RTW is on my list of some of the most disappointing games of recent years. It was great the first few weeks, but after that it just felt really flat.

I voted for civ.

But, Rome is a totally different game if you use the Total Realism mod. It adds to the game in almost all areas, and it's the single reason i still play Rome from time to time. If interested, you can get it here: Rome Total Realism (http://www.rometotalrealism.com/)

Right now, I prefer R:TW.

civ became to much of a routine for me, RTW hee.

I like C3C better. Why? I spent a total of $200 dollars to get RTW working and it turns out it is not that good and the graphics blow. C3C I by for $30 bucks or whatever it cost, and had hours of enjoyment. RTW I had hours of aggravation trying to get the game working and installing a new graphics card for a game I see isn't really that good once I could play it.

For now definitely Civ III. R:TW is soooo close to being a winner, but it's plagued by numerous bugs and weird AI. The save/load bug absolutely has to get squashed. In a way, R:TW reminded me of DungeonSiege -- incredible engine, great ideas... flawed execution. Here's hoping the $35 patch... er, expansion, rectifies many of R:TW's shortcomings, 'cause I desperately want to enjoy the game more.

I actually like RTW better (after it is properly modded of course).

Rome Total War is fun, but after a couple of hours/days it becomes a little bit annoying. Civilization has such a better 'replay'

I played RTW for a while, but somehow couldn't really get into it like Civ.

I voted R:TW, but I think Civ 3 has more lasting enjoyment in it.

In all honesty they really messed up on RTW... I actually enjoy playing Shogun and Medieval more than Rome.

I never really got into RTW because it seemed to easy and unlocking the different nations just took too much time when all you are doing is waiting for the next leader and then building a 1k army and then taking over the next province. The battles were cool though even if they were easy in general.

I don't have C3C, but I still voted for it because PTW kicks RTW's butt.

Wow, I'm surprise at everyone voting Civ3. Rtw is a good game with some big flaws, but then again, Civ3 has HUGE flaws. I wouldn't even play it before conquests.
Someone mentioned the Rome Total Realism mod. My friend had it, I played it a bit, and over all I've come to the conclusion that (like so many Civ mods) it's better than regular RTW.
The biggest problem with RTW was the poor AI. Not that Civ 3 or even 4 has great AI, but I think sprawling real-time battles showed its holes.
Maybe the next installment will feature some better AI generals. Probably not though. Its a demographic thing, and most people don't notice.

I voted RTW, as I never really liked Civ3 that much. Civ2 or 4 vs. Rome though, that would be a tough choice..

C3C, but if it was R: TW vs. Civ4 I would say R: TW

Rome is better. I love great graphics and huge battles.

If only they had Rome: Total War battles in Civ games. Then it'd be awesome. Move a stack of units around, etc etc. And there would be the option of doing it strategically or automatically.

Rome is definitely better as a game. Never have I had so intense experiments playing civ, which only offers bit longer playability.

Rome tw all the way! I never played rome at the time conquests was out but now I have it.

Civ 3 did not age very well, where as Rome's graphics engine is still one of the best out there.

Medieval: TW beats Civ but Rome just feel flat so I voted for civ.

I think that RTW was more impressive and enjoyable in the time that I played it, but C3C lasted much longer before I got bored of it. Therefore I'd say C3C

Heh, either way they both have their merits, where Total War you have to battle to win (basically), but in Civ, there are so many more options to go about dominating.

IS phenomenal, my friend, is. Civ 3 has yet to die, to me anyway. Maybe if Civ 5 is better, but knowing the industry, it will suck.

Total War vs Civ, I'm stuck. TW has the great graphics and battles, and is more in depth, but limited as far as the big picture is concerned; one era, limited area, you can't build cities, etc. Civ covers all history, has more than one map, can be modded by even me, and you can make you empire as you want it. Combining the two would be awesome but time-consuming. So that said, IDK. I think I've played more civ than TW though.

Even though I own Civ3 and the two expansions, I doubt I'll ever install them. I rarely play Civ anymore. As such RTW wins.
