View Full Version : Term 3 - No. 10: The Presidential Office
Furiey Apr 29, 2005, 05:49 PM Welcome to No. 10, the err "Presidential" Office for Term 3!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_Door.jpg http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads9/DG6_flag.gif
Over the past two terms, Fanatannia has changed from a small, weak, backward nation, trapped in a tiny corner of the world, to a strong nation rapidly spreading across the continent. No longer will we cower in the corner; our Settlers (backed up by our army ;) ) will spread across the continent until we nearly dominate the world. And we will build. We have learnt of this thing called Culture and although it will take some time we know will eventually lead us to victory!
Please use this thread for your questions and comments.
Lets build that Culture!

rooms: #turnchat (for the official chat), #demogame (for general demogame discussion)
If you don't have a chat client you can use the Java client supplied at the bottom of the forum (between Forum Rules and Upload File)
In the event I don't make it to a chat, the Chain of Command is as follows:
Vice President - Chieftess
Domestic - greekguy
External - Bertie
Culture - Stuck_as_a_Mac
Resources and Technology - Rik Meleet
Military - zyxy
Infrastructure – Ginger Ale
Chat Schedule is now up. I would have liked to have held the first chat this weekend, but as that would be the first day of the term, I think that more time is required for the new officials to get settled in and hold the appropriate discussions and polls. So unless you all scream like mad that you want something this weekend, the first turnchat of term 3 will be on Wednesday 4 May.
Turn Chats will generally be held on Wednesday evenings GMT and Sundays.. The times will be listed in GMT and in 24 hour format. For times greater than 12:00 subtract 12 for PM. I will also try and list one of the US time zones. If I post the time conversions wrong, please don't hesitate to correct them. In the case that I do get the conversions wrong, the GMT time is always the correct one. I am currently on GMT+1 (due to daylight saving), but will use GMT for all times.
Later dates are provisional to give an indication only, weekday times are unlikely to vary much, but I will vary the weekend times and probably have some chats on the Saturday rather than the Sunday as well.
Turn Chat Summary Thread is here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=112542) links to individual summaries will be added when they are posted.

We are strong. We have captured the core of Indian territory and are well on our way to doing the same with the Dutch. Technology wise we have reached the middle ages and are researching Engineering at minimum rate. Despite going for a cultural victory, our culture is pitiful - all we have is the palace in our capitol Camelot  . But that is to be expected. For before we can win culturally we need lots of cities with lots of culture, and to get the space for that means war :ninja: ! Our culture situation should start to change as we are now also preparing for Republic and that will give us a breathing space to start to build :D .
Nobody Apr 29, 2005, 07:20 PM cogratulations mr president.
MOTH Apr 29, 2005, 09:47 PM Ms President,
Re: Notary of Names
I will be on vacation for most of this term. I was looking for an apprentice, but the one applicant had to back out due to real life commitments. I will open a term 3 thread for a nice neat tidy place for the names to be listed. If you can find another volunteer that is fine with me too.
I will be able to post instructions for the first turn chat to include the renaming of the two Dutch cities we currently own as well as the next dozen or so from from the Term 3 CoC and from the first 2 pages of the Citizen's registry.
As for Unit Naming, all that remains from a first pass through the citizen's registry is a few special request units. Assuming that my proposed Code of Laws change goes through there should be little in the way of Unit naming that must be continued.
Chieftess Apr 29, 2005, 09:54 PM Speaking of domination... remember it's 67%, not 60%. ;)
Black_Hole Apr 29, 2005, 10:01 PM Welcome to the Presidency Madame Furiey.
I hope I will not have to be of services to you  j/k I am sure this will be a great term.
Furiey Apr 30, 2005, 10:41 AM Thank you everyone.
MOTH, I will link to your new thread and try and find someone to keep things going whilst you're away - have a good holiday!
Chieftess, keep reminding me :D - there might be a navy I need reminding about as well soon ;).
Black_Hole, I too hope I don't require your services and hope that this will be a quiet term for the judiciary allowing you to concentrate on ironing out the last wrinkles in our laws. I certainly live in hope don't I!

CivGeneral Apr 30, 2005, 01:52 PM I wonder if the President has any plans for the Unemployed citizens who wish to still remain active in the government.
RoboPig Apr 30, 2005, 08:31 PM congrats on the presidency
MOTH May 01, 2005, 06:22 AM Ms President,
Just a friendly reminder that the constitution requires a TCIT 3 days before a scheduled turn chat. If you wish for a TC on Wed I believe you need to setup a thread today.
Furiey May 01, 2005, 08:59 AM TCIT for Wednesday and the Turn Chat Schedule is now up.
Chieftess May 01, 2005, 09:55 AM Could you also put the times in EDT too?
I'm not sure what 18:00 GMT is. 12:00pm EDT? 1:00pm EDT?
Ginger_Ale May 01, 2005, 09:58 AM It helps to actually read inside the thread.
Time: Wednesday 4 May, 18:00 GMT, 14:00 (2PM) EDT
Of course, it also helps to know conversions off the top of your head. ;)
Furiey May 01, 2005, 10:40 AM Yep, times are in EDT (and PM format) in the first post and in the schedule. I didn't put it in the thread title as it starts to get rather long...
Of course, please let me know if I've got the conversion wrong!
Furiey May 02, 2005, 05:28 AM There are currently 2 discussions on the go concerning the presidential office:
Where do we want our Palace and Forbidden Palace? (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=117980)
What to do with Issac Newton, Take 2 (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=117874) (In association with Culture)
please everyone, have your say.
MOTH May 02, 2005, 07:31 AM Ms President,
There is a new Term 3: Notary of Names (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=117984) Thread. Post #2 has a list of 38 names for cities using the Term 3 CoC and the 1st 3 pages of the Citizen Registry. Post #3 has a handful of pending unit names should we get to the point of building the appropriate units.
I will post in the instruction thread the next few city and unit names, but you will likely need to refer to this thread for future chats.
donsig May 02, 2005, 05:02 PM Lots of info in the first few posts of this thread. Nice. But I didn't notice a link to the turn chat summary thread (which, by the way, has not had a new post since April 17).
Will the new administration be posting turn chat summaries?
Will the old president be filling in any blanks? Last we knew Sir Isaac Newton was on the scene...
Furiey May 02, 2005, 05:25 PM MOTH: Thank You, I've now linked to the Term 3 thread.
donsig: This new administration certainly intends to post summaries, there were no links to the Summary Thread as I have yet to write any summaries! I was intending to link to each one under the appropriate chat. I can certainly add a link to the thread in general though.
zyxy May 04, 2005, 08:30 AM Madame President,
As you may know, your military has started training our young men to fight from horseback, so that we may gore our enem... excuse me, achieve our foreign political goals with greater speed and efficiency. For the further glory of Fanatannia, I hope to provide our mounted soldiers with better weaponry in the near future.
Of course, such upgrades come at a price: to provide one unit with shiny armor will cost the tiny sum of 120 gold pieces. The number of units needed, and the moment when they will be needed, will depend on the plans of the External Consul. As it stands now, I would expect that these knights in shiny armor will be required some 25-30 turns from now (90 BC) in an operation against China, and for our defenses. About 20 should be enough initially. May I count on your cooperation in reserving 2500 gold pieces in 25-30 turns for this modernization of our valiant armies?

Bertie May 04, 2005, 09:07 AM Madame President,
I'm going to be out of town much of May 6, 7, & 8th. I think I'll be able to post the instructions for turnchat on Sunday the 8th either tomorrow or early on Friday. If I can't I've asked Nobody, Deputy External Consul, to post the instructions for me.
Could you possibly post the thread for Sunday's turnchat sometime tomorrow so it be available for posting instructions if I'm able to formulate them?
Thanks!
Furiey May 04, 2005, 12:18 PM CoAF zyxy
I recognise the need for the modernisation of our valiant forces, however 2500 gold is a lot, in fact if we save all our gold for the remaining 26 turns that we are researching Engineering we will only have 2567 gold (assuming we maintain 77gpt) and we are about to spend some of that on alliances. I must of course balance the needs of the whole of Fanattania, and recognise the importance of our military to gain us the territory we need, but unless we can make a lot more gold, you may have to make do with a smaller initial upgrade. Thank you for making me aware of this requirement, I will do what I can to meet it when I balance the budget.
Furiey May 04, 2005, 12:20 PM Consul Bertie
I intend to post the TCIT for the next turn chat immediately after this one, unless it's 3 in the morning or something silly in which case I may get a little sleep before I post it in the morning.
I hope you have a good weekend
zyxy May 05, 2005, 10:11 AM CoAF zyxy

President Furiey,
I fully understand that this is quite a hefty sum, and that our budget is limited. Of course the army will make do with what is made available, and will also seek popular support for these expenses once the External Consul has finalized his plans. I am glad you value the importance of a modern army and thank you for your consideration.
As a footnote, I would like to point out that this is probably the only time that the military will require sums of this magnitude. After the discovery of armored horsemen we will probably not train the unarmored version anymore -- who would volunteer? Thus I expect a one-time mass upgrade. My eaves-droppers at the R&T department have heard rumours that future upgrades from knights to better units will be much cheaper.

The start of a new term and the continuation of our conquest of part of the continent for territory. But things did not go as well as hoped.
In total we lost 4 cities and built 1. 2 were lost to flips, one capture and 1 gifted. We razed Arnhem and built on the Iron/Wheat site.

heh, MLGs don't rush wonders anymore... They can only build armies.
Double Stack May 19, 2005, 07:30 AM They can do small wonders or other improvements but not Great Wonders. Some might want to do the Palace or the FP, depends on what the People decide.
Furiey May 20, 2005, 07:58 AM Poll on the use of Great Leader Edward is up here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=119245)
mad-bax May 21, 2005, 04:20 AM There is a small possibility that I won't be able to post an instruction for Fanatannia in time. I't will probably be OK, but I have a lot on this weekend.
Hope you can cope. :)
Furiey May 21, 2005, 03:59 PM Thank you mad-bax, if you don't get to post anything I will follow the principles you have used previously.
And finally - Summary for the last session is up here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=2782136).
zyxy May 21, 2005, 04:14 PM Furiey,
Just to let you know people are still reading them :) : once again a beautiful summary!
Furiey May 21, 2005, 04:23 PM Thank You zyxy!
Bertie May 21, 2005, 06:38 PM Madame President,
Two things. First, I'd like to second zyxy: your summaries are wonderful. I enjoy reading them.
Second, when you read the instruction thread I'm sure you'll spot this, but I propose a MA with the Persians against the Byzantines. Just an alert so you won't do the trade first, then the MA, and be unable to do the MA.
Bertie May 22, 2005, 10:02 AM Madame President,
Thanks for reminding me that when I request expenditures that I should do so in the Treasury thread and not just in the instructions. Simply put: I forgot. I apologize. I hope this hasn't caused you difficulty.
Contritely,
Bertie
