View Full Version : Chinese Succession Game.
das Dec 11, 2001, 02:47 PM There is one thing missing on this forum: Chinese Succession Game!
So I decided to start one. I will start it as soon as I will have 4 more people in this succession game.
Btw, I have three important questions:
1)Should we start this succession game on Real World Map or on Random Map?
2)How many turns should everyone make?
3) What difficulity should we play on?
And here is the player list (updated regulary):
das (1 rounds done)
ratio (0 rounds done) - replaced by Red Leader (0 rounds done)
donsig (1 rounds done) - 1 GNOCDY Award for finding Horses and beginning expansionist politics!
blang13 (1 rounds done)
Fayadi (0 rounds done)
Announcement: the Order of GNOCDY - Great Nation of China Deserves You! - is formed. I would like to give it to Donsig - this will be given to everyone who makes something GREAT for China.
We shall see who will have the most GNOCDY's in the end! Also, all the GNOCDY, wil be given by the mass! But the first one was VERY IMPORTANT!
From now on, after each full round, we will decide who will receive GNOCDY in it. There can be maximum 3 GNOCDYs in each round!
ratio Dec 11, 2001, 04:49 PM I'll play.. About the map, is there a way to play historical starting locations on the world map yet? If not then I would much rather play with a random map.
Jaffa Tamarin Dec 11, 2001, 06:05 PM What difficulty level are you going to play at?
das Dec 11, 2001, 06:19 PM Okay, so I will add you right away!
And about the question - no, on the one that ships with game, unfortunatly no. However, a guy there nicknamed Masterman made a savegame as Chinese, on world map, 16 civs, all positions historically correct. So if we are going for Real World Map, then I mean Masterman's savegame.
das Dec 11, 2001, 06:23 PM And to Jaffa - let's decide this too!
donsig Dec 11, 2001, 06:23 PM I will play. I prefer a random map but will play on world map if that is what everyone else wants. Any difficulty will do.
20 turns per player is good at first. As the game progresses we can go down to 15 and then 10 turns each. The key seems to be finding a rotation that works for all involved. I can play around midnight or 8am-noon est usa.
das Dec 11, 2001, 06:51 PM There is a problem with editing my first post...
das Dec 11, 2001, 07:06 PM Okay, now this problem has disappeared after I made a new post. Very interrresting....
Josiah Dec 11, 2001, 11:03 PM I'll play
blang13 Dec 12, 2001, 03:52 AM Just curious if there was still an open slot. I'll play if so.
Bob
Fayadi Dec 12, 2001, 05:43 AM The masterman u mentioned was that me?
By the way if there is slot let me in
Just wanna let u see my new saved game,I uploaded a World Map Chinese Civ game again with all positions correct , this time my civ is much more powerful than the one i posted previously..
U r in year of 770.Most of your cities are great(finished building all the improvements) and u r building many riders from the big cities to kick the Indian Ass.
In Shanghai,2 ship was waiting,1 rider was being built,u r waiting for D-Day Chinese Invasion of Japanese
My cities is roughly about 15 only but each one are powerful,Remember Japan and India must be eliminated,Germany is taking space between ur big cities,i dunno if they can be captured by culture if no passion just whipe them off.
In this 16 civ game i almost known(negotiatied) with all the civ,u got nearly 3000 golds!U r in fore front of technology!
Wow Riders ARE CHILLING!
das Dec 12, 2001, 02:29 PM To both of you: Okay, you are in!
To everyone who still hasn't joined: there are no places left - however, there will be place open while anyone from the list won't post the savedgame in two days - someone must replace him. Anyone who wants to replace him just say it there. However, when he comes back replacement time will end.
To Fayadi: So you are the masterman who made those cool savedgames. Did you made them with Savedgame Editor? Then I can make thsoe too Btw, in post with the saved game, topic started was "Masterman"...
To every player of this succession:
I offer the following settings. Do you agree?
Difficulity: Monarch.
Map: World Map by Fayadi.
Turns: 20 (20 from 4000 BC, from 10 BC 15 and from 1000 AD 10).
I will start tommorow or today.
das Dec 12, 2001, 04:01 PM Great job, Fayadi!
Also, here is Chinese Imperial Coat of Arms!
das Dec 12, 2001, 04:57 PM I thought again, Gentelmen (I mean Mandarins), and decided to start the game RIGHT NOW - time is wasting, you know what I mean?
Update is coming up:
Next time I will just post Imperial Coat of Arms before the report on my activities.
donsig Dec 12, 2001, 05:37 PM Settings sound good to me. As for turns, maybe we should go 20 then 15 then 10? Anyone else have an opinion on this?

BEFORE THE GAME BEGINS
4050 4000 BC The Chinese tribes migrate to area of modern-day Beijing. They form a tribal union.
GAME BEGINS
4000 Chinese build the town of Beijing on Yellow River. Chinese decide to recruit some Chinese villagers to warriors. Meanwhile, Chinese workers decide to visit a village to southeast from Beijing, after building a road to wheat area to south from Beijing.
3800 In that village to southeast from Beijing, Hsung-Nu tribe has taught Chinese how to use wheel. Some horse pastures are found right outside Beijing.
3650 Barbarians approach Beijing. In case of emergency, half of population has to become Warriors forever.
3600 Warriors are ready for defense. Barbarians are defeated, and Warriors become Veterans. Also, Chinese tribal priests start to build some kind of primitive palace.
3550 Chinese culture expands around Beijing. Unfortunately, more Barbarians arrive to try their luck at Beijing.
3400 Some Barbarians are slayed.
3300 Even more Barbarians are slayed. Warriors in Beijing are now Elite. Chinese workers start building primitive irrigation.
3250 Remained Barbarians are dead or run away.
3200 Day Hung Shu becomes the chief of Chinese, introducing succession system.
3150 Day Hung Shu dies, and he proclaims that Jaffa Tamarin is his successor.

Yep, I don't have much luck, and after all, I am not expert. Moanrch level is REAL hard to me, as I just understood it...
Your turn, Jaffa Tamarin!
donsig Dec 12, 2001, 06:24 PM Horses are a good thing to have early on. If they are within our borders we should get a road from Beijing to the horses asap.
ratio Dec 12, 2001, 07:02 PM Cool das... And the Europa Universalis shield is a nice touch. I haven't played that any since I got Civ III though.

Fayadi Dec 13, 2001, 10:44 PM U didnt know how to attach the file??Press browse beside attach file
Anyway my e-mail is Fayadi@scientist.com
das Dec 14, 2001, 03:04 PM Wait. I don't got it! It worked when I forgot to put the file in ZIP, and now it isn't!
das Dec 14, 2001, 03:19 PM I don't get it!
das Dec 14, 2001, 03:21 PM Wait. Now it's working. And btw, there is a report in the 1st page.
GeniX Dec 14, 2001, 03:28 PM I'd love to play people! If there is room for me to still squeeze in somewhere. Ofcourse everything seems rather 'incoherent' and unordered to me so Im still wondering what the 'rules' are for succession games (never having played part of one), and also wondering how people know whos up next and so forth.
GeniX Dec 14, 2001, 03:31 PM Nevermind, I read that there are no places left in a post das made earlier. But mark me down for interest if someone doesnt show up, and feel free to still answer my questions on succession games in general.
Jaffa Tamarin Dec 14, 2001, 04:16 PM Huh? I'm in this game now?
You didn't put me in the player list in the first post
das Dec 14, 2001, 04:44 PM I DIDN'T?! Are you kidding? I remember clearly I did! Maybe I fogot... Anyway, it's your round now, make 20 turns, and don't forget to make report about important things that happened in the game, OK?
And to GeniX:
Succession Game is when someone plays, then after making the agreed amount of turns, and gives it to next player in list, then he plays, and gives his saved game to the next player, and so on... Until it returns to the first one, then the procedure continues again, and again, and again, until the game ends.
And also, to make it recorded, every player makes the report of his reign.
das Dec 14, 2001, 04:46 PM Oh sorry. I misunderstood... Mean, next time I need to know the difference between the first reply on the succession game thread, and the joining into the game. Anyway, it's your turn, ratio, I am terribly sorry for my mistake.
RedLeader Dec 14, 2001, 07:45 PM mark me as interested....
Fayadi Dec 15, 2001, 01:14 AM das sorry i must correct u something...
After building warrior build Settler!why build archer?U need to expand ur empire!
Why the hell u research pottery?Writing is important so that u can get literature for great library!Dont irrigate on grassland ,there is a bug the food still stays at 2.Normal grassland food is 2,if u irrigate it,it still stays at 2!No use!Irrigate anything but not grasslands!Wheats on grasslands have impact!Normal grassland dont irrigate ...build mines!if a forest got 2 shield bonus dont clear the forest.Unless ur city wants to grow beyond 12(thats about industrial age then u can do so)
How to play on Monarch like this?Even I normally plays on Regent or Warlord ....Not used to Civ III style .Regent level is just about my skills yet (maybe because I was too agressive for declaring wars on so many civ?) the importance of expansion was not forgotten.Sorry not saying bad, hope u will learn ur lesson and become better civ player :goodjob:
das Dec 15, 2001, 05:58 AM I will start it again, okay? Btw, I will switch the difficulity level to Regent now. And please, ratio, don't play the saved game! I will start again.
And to Fayadi: sorry I didn't knowed about the grasslands. But I think that this is just because that WE ARE STILL AS DESPOTISM! They have effect only after switch to Monarchy of Republic.
das Dec 15, 2001, 06:00 AM Btw, it's just because that on those correct location saved games, you always start at Monarch difficulity, so the only thing to change this is with saved game editor.
Fayadi Dec 15, 2001, 07:45 AM Despotism??U r right in Republic there is diff,I didnt know that .....the civilopedia never describe it?By the way how ya know it,my friend told me it was a bug.Really sorry bout just now i heard a bad news just now and maybe overreacted in my language.Basically i just wanna say expansionist is important.Play at Monarchy then it will be fun.Emperors or Deity sucks they cheats like hell
das Dec 16, 2001, 03:39 PM Guys! I tried again, but... can you imagine it? It was even worse! Barbarians haev attacked us, killed our worker, and we loosed all our money, and city has stayed at 1. So I decided that we should play on the first saved game, only on Regent difficulity level! So here it is! Ratio, carry our relative GLORY on!
das Dec 16, 2001, 03:46 PM And also, I know about the importance of expansion. Only after I saw how many Barbarians are attacking us, I've understood ONE THING: we need BETTER defense. So maybe I overescimated Barbarian Power, but the feeling of importance of defense only incraesed after one of my fiascos...
donsig Dec 16, 2001, 04:58 PM Expansion can also lessen barbarian troubles because barbarians will not come within the borders of a civ. It is difficult to balance defense and expansion and improving cities.
Fayadi Dec 17, 2001, 02:29 AM we need to restart the game again I'm sorry but i just discovered that 16 civ games are way too long to play.at 800 +ad it took 3 mins to waiting for the AI to move!We have to seriously reconsider!
das Dec 17, 2001, 03:08 PM It doesn't creates any problems with me...
Fayadi Dec 18, 2001, 12:21 AM Oooh ok then,so when are we getting our next saved game again?
das Dec 18, 2001, 02:14 PM As soon as ratio finishes his first part in this SG. If he won't answer tommorow, then we will have to pick up one of replacement persons there...
das Dec 19, 2001, 01:28 PM GeniX, you are in, since ratio hasn't replied yet!
GeniX Dec 20, 2001, 03:43 AM I am very sorry guys! I was hoping to get a turn in some days ago but I fly home for christmas tomorrow night. Ill be back in 5 days.
I know I really wanted to join in. I shoulda kept quiet instead :-O
donsig Dec 20, 2001, 11:53 AM 3150 BC - 2850 BC: The Chinese people live happily in isolation.:)
2800 BC: Chinese people enjoy the luxurious silken clothes and bed linens.
2750 - 2710 BC: Happy Days are here again. :) :)
2670 BC: Beijin supplied with horses.
2590 BC: Chariot squadron created to explore the outlands.
2510 BC: Chinese people master the art of bronze working and turn their attention to their new horses.
2470 BC: Chinese chariots diesperse barbarian camp and send plundered gold back to Beijin.
2430 - 2310 BC: Chariot explores and finds more barbarians as a band of Beijin residents leave town to find a new place to live...
EDIT: Attachment deleted to save server space!
donsig Dec 20, 2001, 11:55 AM We must explore and make new cities!
We have access to LOTS of horses!;)

das Dec 20, 2001, 03:53 PM GNOCDYD
G - Great
N - Nation
O - of
C - China
D - deserves
Y - you,
D - Donsig!
Do you have any hints for your successor?
das Dec 20, 2001, 04:05 PM Empresses and Emperors, I would like to announce that the Honorous Order of GNOCDY is FORMED! FMILFP
F - For
M - More
I - Info
L - Look
F - First
P - Page!
Okay, I will stop making this puzzle now...
donsig Dec 20, 2001, 04:48 PM I am honored to be the first recipient of this great award!:D
Advice for my successor? There's a tough choice coming up concerning where to put the next great Chinese city. I was heading down the coast but that is unexplored territory. I think it owuld be wise to get another chariot out there exploring. I think it is of great importance to secure those extra horses as well - especially if we find neighbors to the north. OMT (one more thing): I think mines are more useful than irrigation at this stage of the game.
RedLeader Dec 20, 2001, 05:33 PM If you need a substitute or temp player!?!?!
donsig Dec 20, 2001, 05:47 PM RedLeader: We just had a player drop from our English succession game. Perhaps you are interested in playing there? We're playing England but the thread says 'Egyption'.
RedLeader Dec 21, 2001, 10:35 AM The English are too far along. I would rather start in the BC era.
das Dec 23, 2001, 11:42 AM Blang13, where are you?
One more day, then Red Leader will replace you!
blang13 Dec 23, 2001, 11:57 PM Sory all, I didn't realize it was my turn. I'll get it out hopefully later today (Monday). I just downloaded the file.
Bob
das Dec 24, 2001, 01:09 PM Works fine with me...
Okay, we will wait...
das Dec 25, 2001, 12:20 PM *Looks at his nuclear clock, and wants to commit suicide*
blang13 Dec 25, 2001, 03:59 PM Hey guys,
I'm trying to play the game. I downloaded the turn, unzipped it and put it in the save game folder. When I go to load it, I get a list of errors, and the game won't launch. Is there a patch I need or something else I need to download. I'm trying here.
Bob
donsig Dec 25, 2001, 10:59 PM I re-zipped the file and I'll repost it here. See if this is better blang13.
EDIT: Attachment deleted to save server space!
das Dec 26, 2001, 11:35 AM This is better be good, since I have my nuclear terminal, prepared to destroy all the world (now that's SUICIDE!)!
das Dec 27, 2001, 11:40 AM Well? I can't wait all day! One more day, while I will wait, okay?
Or else!
:nuke: :suicide: :nuke:
donsig Dec 27, 2001, 12:38 PM Has anyone downloaded the file to see if it works now?
Do we have a 72 hour rule in this game?
blang13 Dec 27, 2001, 12:50 PM Sorry for the delay guys. Here is the file. Blow by blow account to follow. Guess I didn't realize I needed the 1.16f patch.
blang13 Dec 27, 2001, 01:10 PM I rise over the body of great donsig to take my place at the thrown of the Chinese. The New Despot on the block...

2150: Our new Chariot is built and is sent down the Yellow River to explore. New Settlers being recruited

1990: Nada
1950: Dispersed Barbarian encampment and collected loot.
1910: Horseback riding discovered. Piles of new Manure in city make citizens of Beijing restless. Elvis brought in as moderator. Scientist set out to find a way to standardize our language in an "alphabet."

Notes: The settler in the NW was being chased by a barbarian. I brought the chariot back for protection. A city can be founded when the two unite. Indians have yet to make contact. Lots of nice city sites down the coast.
donsig Dec 29, 2001, 09:23 AM Is it Fayadi's turn? ?
das Dec 30, 2001, 01:02 PM Yep, and he better hurry it up, or else... [punch] [punch] [punch] [punch] [punch]

das Jan 01, 2002, 01:28 PM Oh Mr. Fayadi!
das Jan 02, 2002, 11:17 AM Hello! Fayadi!
das Jan 02, 2002, 11:26 AM Well?!
donsig Jan 02, 2002, 03:36 PM Perhaps we should skip Fayadi. Are we using the 72 hour rule?
das Jan 03, 2002, 12:04 PM Okay, I will play tommorow.
das Jan 05, 2002, 08:14 AM The game isn't loading with me either...
blang13 Jan 05, 2002, 09:17 PM I rezipped it and uploaded it again.
Bob
das Jan 06, 2002, 12:10 PM I will play tommorow, and send The Reign of Das II and the file here tommorow.
donsig Jan 15, 2002, 11:54 PM It's been quite awhile and nothings happened so I played some turns...
1550 BC: Canton founded on a hill near the horses in the north.
1450 BC: Nanking founded on the coast.
1000 BC: Xinjian founded on the coast and Tsingtao in the interior.
Swapped a tech with Ghandi and bought one from Alex. Also found the Persians. Our two chariots and lone horsemen unit continued to explore and fight barbarians. We lost one warrior to barbs.
EDIT: Attachment deleted to save server space!
donsig Jan 15, 2002, 11:57 PM I built us some new cities and started temples in them but they are undefended right now! Seems as though we have lots of room to expand peacefully.
This game is still very early so I hope someone picks up the ball and runs with it!
EDIT: Attachment deleted to save server space!
LKendter Jan 16, 2002, 06:30 AM Uhhh - What is the map size, difficulty, etc?
donsig Jan 16, 2002, 07:07 AM Regent difficulty. I'm not sure of the map size (I didn't start the game). Looks like a world map though. We seem to have started in the right spot for China. There are some posts on the first page about the map.
LKendter Jan 16, 2002, 05:16 PM I take a whack at it
I suspect you will need to start a new thread, and manage this one yourself.
Ohwell Jan 16, 2002, 05:23 PM WOW this thread is screwed up! The first four pages are entirely consisting of spam from das. This is first page see anything about china!!!
Maybe somebody in this game should start a new thread...
LKendter Jan 16, 2002, 06:43 PM Pre-turn
Hmmm... Large world, Beijing to Pyramids. Very critical this game. Nanking whips out temple.
975 BC - First contact with Europe, the Germans. We buy Iron working for $65. Greeks alreadying builidng the Lighthouse.
950 BC - Our chariot disturbs angry warrios near Germany, then runs away. During OUR turn - :flamedevi:
We give the Germans world map for contact with Egypt, Russia, England, English, French, Romans + techs of Mathematics / Map Making.:flamedevi: Trade India world map for Territory map, worker and $25. Trade Babylon world map for Territory map and $2. Not much, but ... Trade Persia world map for territory map and $40. Trade Russia world map for territory map and $7. Trade England World map for world map and $9. Trade France World map for world map and $6. Trade Rome world map for world map and $4. Trade Egypt world map for world map and $13. One last good one - Trade Greece world map for World map and $60.
ARGGGGGG!!!!!! - Establish some embassies - France will get the pyramids in 24 turns.
875 BC - I never saw this one before! Nankings borders expand and disperse a barb camp! Talk about easy money  Sell world map for some pocket change, but it covers buying another worker from Greece. Shanghai finishes barracks and starts pumping out veteran spearman.
850 BC - Chengdu is formed. Start another temple.
825 BC - Canton begins Spearman production. This city will be stuck at 2 for a long time, so perfect military city.
800 BC - I spot a goal - IRON.
775 BC - More map trading - another embassy.
670 BC - More map trading - another embassy, and contact with the Zulu.
650 BC - First contact - Japan. The trading bug SUCKS. I can't sell first contact with Japan to anyone.
Major surprise - AMERICA builds the Pyramids.
630 BC - Repeat of 775 BC.
550 BC - Final act, see 775BC. In addition, trade England literature / world map for Code of laws. Trade France Philosphy/ $30 / World map for consturction. I don't know if we will get the Great Library - so I had to pick them up.
[b]WARNING - Hugh map will eventually create problems with zip file size > 500[b] Long way away, but something we should be aware of.
