View Full Version : Roads in CIv IV
V. Soma May 05, 2005, 04:34 AM Now lots of screenshots "emerge"...
Watching them I can't guess how the roads will function...
Any idea? Will be rivers like roads?
QuoVadisNation May 05, 2005, 06:53 AM I'm basing my logic on Real Time games right now...
So, I would think that that it doesn't increase the total income this time. It'll just allow troops to move faster every turn. Which meant explain why there are no roads all over the place.
A tought occured after I posted this. I guess, it would still generate money as long as the cities are connected for resources, etc, and all that jazz.
V. Soma May 05, 2005, 06:57 AM I do not mind if bits of road do not generate money,
I (would) love the look of "real" road systems...
Commander Bello May 05, 2005, 07:09 AM I really hope that roads will not "create" income by themselves, but just the connection of certain places - cities connected to cities will have more income, cities connected to resources will have more income, and so on.
Income is made within cities, not by a piece of road somewhere in the open land.
dh_epic May 05, 2005, 09:43 AM From what I can see, it looks like rivers are between tiles... hence, they're probably not road-like, as far as I can assume.

You haven't seen how businesses spring up in the middle of nowhere when a new Interstate Highway exit is constructed...before nothing but Cow pasture, after nothing but McDonald's, Motel 6 and gas stations. :)
Roads do generate income where ever they are built...not just in the endpoints.
mitsho May 05, 2005, 10:21 AM I misread your post first, dh_epic. I read 'roads' are inbetween tiles (instead of 'rivers'). and, at a first thought, would that be such an awful idea? If you want to travel, you use roads, but for fight, you need to leave the road and get on a field (tile) to fight.
But I'm not sure if this idea is really that brilliant, but I just had it and I do not want to think it further atm.
