Lion Mutilates 42 Midgets in Cambodian Ring-Fight
Spectators cheered as entire Cambodian Midget Fighting League squared off against African Lion

Tickets had been sold-out three weeks before the much anticipated fight, which took place in the city of Kâmpóng Chhnãng.

The fight was slated when an angry fan contested Yang Sihamoni, President of the CMFL, claiming that one lion could defeat his entire league of 42 fighters.

Sihamoni takes great pride in the league he helped create, as was conveyed in his recent advertising campaign for the CMFL that stated his midgets will "... take on anything; man, beast, or machine."

This campaign is believed to be what sparked the undisclosed fan to challenge the entire league to fight a lion; a challenge that Sihamoni readily accepted.

An African Lion (Panthera Leo) was shipped to centrally located Kâmpóng Chhnãng especially for the event, which took place last Saturday, April 30, 2005 in the city’s coliseum.

The Cambodian Government allowed the fight to take place, under the condition that they receive a 50% commission on each ticket sold, and that no cameras would be allowed in the arena.

The fight was called in only 12 minutes, after which 28 fighters were declared dead, while the other 14 suffered severe injuries including broken bones and lost limbs, rendering them unable to fight back.

Sihamoni was quoted before the fight stating that he felt since his fighters out-numbered the lion 42 to 1, that they “… could out-wit and out-muscle [it].”

Unfortunately, he was wrong.

I don't think this is real, for one the link is not from BBC and for two I couldn't find it using the BBC search feature. I think I've been duped. But what are your reactions anyways?

MODS: If this is indeed not real, move it to the humor forum.

If that's real, then it is absolutely disgusting. The actions on behalf of the Cambodian government wouldn't surprise me that much (although it would be completely unsurprising if Pol Pot were still in power).

Luckily, it looks to be a fake.

Not too easy to ship a live lion to Cambodia... I'm inclined to think it's a fraud.

Though a part of me hopes it's true. I do like to see loudmouths shuttup in spectacular fashions.

Unworthy of me I know... but I'm only human.

Midgets and Lions squaring off in the ring, could a Deathmaze be far away?

Smells of urban legend.

What if they had paratrooping midgets jumping out of helicopters fighting a genetically engineered team of lions? I'd get my ass over to Cambodia to see that in a heartbeat.

It seems a little suspect. How very convinient that no cameras were allowed in.

taking into consideration the overpopulation exspecially in the 3rd world countries it could be a practical and even financially interesting way of regulation...

hopefully it is a fake.

I sort of realised it was a fake when I heard the words "midget fighting league".

If you haven't already guessed, the article is fake.

Therefore, we can conclude that this article is fake.

The REAL scary stories of this sort are the ones you don't immediately conclude are fake.....you read it, and there's that little voice in your mind going "that couldn't possibly have happened....could it???"

I'd go to see it. jst because it sounds so absurd that it can only be seen to be believed. And also to tell my kids and grand kids in years to come that when I was their age I saw an army of midgets take on an African lion.
