Would I need a patch for Civ3 inorder for the patch for Conquest to work. So for example I dl v1.22 for Conquest but I also need to install v1.29f for Civ3?

No, that's not necessary. When you installed Conquests (or PTW, for that matter) it upgraded VC3 to 1.29f. And if you had PTW installed before installing conquests, it patched it to 1.27f.
