going through the tons of infromation posted during the last few days about
CivIV...one thing I have not yet found is any discussion of "civil war" or nations splitting up (or any of the many variations on the idea posted here and on other forums)

has this info jut eluded me? has anyone found out anything about this concept, whether it is included in any shape or form?

Hi snuli. :)

None of the E3 previews of Civ4 mention civil war, so it's probably not in.

A short preview on UGO a while ago mentioned something about "if rebellions start to overthrow your empire, there's always the reset swicth", but some of the info in that preview have since been proven false, so don't see it as an indication of civil war feature in Civ4.

I am honored to have gotten my first reply from the head administrator personally!
thank you... after a year and a half of just reading posts it is a different feel to write them..

about the issue at hand:

I have got the feeling firaxis is keeping some cool game concepts up their sleeve still....

hope dies last!

I think civil war is the most needed thing and it imust be obvious to firaxis that we want it. They must have seen the constant yelling for it on message boards such as this one.

I have to say that, judging from polling and general opinion placed here, and over at Apolyton, Civil Wars are the one thing on which the greatest number of fans seem to agree. Given this, it would seem insane for them to leave it out (especially given that it was in Civ2). Of course, that said, if it is back, then I hope it works in a MUCh better way than it did in civ2 (i.e. losing your capital should not be the cause of civil war, but can be one of a number of factors which can cause it!)

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.

there was a discussion in one of the threads on the gamespot movie that said possible civil war... this was because when Soren showed the different civ leaders ghandi, hatsheput, etc. He also showed both of the chinese leaders, Mao and the other guy (Sry dont remember his name) This in my opinion was probably just to show some of the finished leaders but you never know, could of been because of a civil war. Maybe they want to keep some surprises :)

Not all Civs have had a civil war, but quite a few have. In addition to those you metioned, Greece, China, Korea, England, France, Russia, and Japan I know have had civil wars, India was split after its indepence from the UK into Pakistan and India, and most of the other CIVs have had significant internal conflicts. Since internal conflicts have been a major influence on history, I think they should be included.

I think just about all civs have had some internal unrest of varying degrees at some time in their development; maybe not to the level of actual warfare; however I am hard pressed to think of one that did not have some form of violent civil strife especially in it's formative centuries....(of coarse, if the civil war is succesful then you may have a new civ, i.e America from England; or a coup or revolution that changes it's government - i.e 18th Century France, Russian and China in the 20th century. The game currently models the latter but not the former.)

In that case they would have to provide two leaders for EACH civ. Except... if only some civs should be able to fight civil wars. :)

Wleocme to CFC [party]

In one of the different articles I read, I saw a vague mention that there are rebellions. It was between tons of other infos, I don't remember where it was, how it was said, but I remember I posted it in the civil wars thread.
