View Full Version : I need to learn about Nasser quickly. cgannon64 May 24, 2005, 04:07 PM I have a five-page paper on him due in two days, so I need some good sites about him. Does anyone know of any? Rambuchan May 24, 2005, 04:11 PM Will this do? :D http://content.cricinfo.com/ci/content/player/14325.html cgannon64 May 24, 2005, 04:13 PM Mann that website looked so good based on the URL, but then it turned out to be about sissy baseball. Yom May 24, 2005, 04:15 PM Why don't you check out some books on Nasser? There ought to be some decent ones at the nearest college or university library. You could always try reading Wiki for the outline and then following its links. Rambuchan May 24, 2005, 04:16 PM  Sorry dude, I couldn't resist it. He used to be the captain of our national cricket team and a complete loser at that. Brits think of him when you say Nasser not the Egyptian Nasser. Sorry man, it was naughty of me. :mischief: stormbind May 24, 2005, 04:18 PM Use wikipedia - they provide good background, followed by links to other related sites. Far can be learned there than here on CFC. Rambuchan May 24, 2005, 04:20 PM Here is my apology: http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Occupation-of-the-Gaza-Strip-by-Egypt http://www.arab.de/arabinfo/egypt-government.htm http://www.freeessays.cc/db/14/cia18.shtml http://www.onwar.com/aced/data/sierra/sinai1956.htm (from Googling 'Nasser Gaza Conflict Egypt') But I'm with Yom, get some books out also. I haven't check the veracity of those threads but they have good background introductory info. Never trust the net 100% and good luck! Yom May 24, 2005, 04:21 PM Use wikipedia - they provide good background, followed by links to other related sites. Far can be learned there than here on CFC. Unfortunately, he must be well-versed in reading and understanding Arabic to use the wiki link. cgannon64 May 24, 2005, 04:22 PM See, I would check out some books, but the paper is due in two days. I might just get one to skim, if I have to. Usually I'm a good student and read all my books when I have to write a paper like this, but there's four days of school left and every teacher has decided to be a dick and give us papers. EDIT: Yeah, I've read Wiki's page on him already, I need more than that. Rambuchan May 24, 2005, 04:27 PM The freeessays link I gave seems to be pretty good and it has a bibliography at the end you chase also. cgannon64 May 24, 2005, 04:30 PM Yeah that one is blocked by my porn blocker for being anarchist. :crazyeye: Rambuchan May 24, 2005, 04:42 PM I've copied and pasted that article into a word.doc and attached it here for you. Too big to post it up. Be sure to reference them please, I feel responsible for their copyright now. It gives you a good round up of the conflict in the Middle East and Nassers role in it all. Alpine Trooper May 24, 2005, 05:27 PM Nasser was an illogical thinking moron who did nothing for the middle-east but plunge it further into the depths of anarchy. He is a major reason for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and was an absolute coward who could not back any military effort he put forth. When his insignificant coalition learned about Israel's nuclear weapons in the sixties, he and his soldiers put their tails between their legs and let Israel run them over. Good thing he's dead. cgannon64 May 24, 2005, 05:54 PM  I have a feeling I'll have a similar opinion. ;) Problem solved, by the way. I just got a 150-page encyclopedia article on him called "Profiles in Power: Nasser" that I'll plow through tonight, and "Nasser: The Last Arab", whose index I will use so I can have an additional source, and which I might read if I have time before the paper is due, or if I have the inclination to read a biased piece of crap after its already in. Alpine Trooper May 24, 2005, 06:00 PM American foreign policy HEAVILY altered because of the Six Day War which was a result of Nasser. He is the fault of so much today. amadeus May 24, 2005, 07:13 PM American foreign policy HEAVILY altered because of the Six Day War which was a result of Nasser. I'd say it had less to do with Nasser and more to do with Soviet political and military domination of strategic countries (Iraq, Syria, Egypt) in the Middle East. Keirador May 24, 2005, 07:15 PM Yeah that one is blocked by my porn blocker for being anarchist. :crazyeye: You have a porn blocker? Why the hell even have the internet? HighlandWarrior May 24, 2005, 08:01 PM the book six days of war by michael b oren has alot about nasser in it. WillJ May 24, 2005, 08:59 PM You have a porn blocker? Why the hell even have the internet? I know, you might as well just get an Internet blocker. Knight-Dragon May 24, 2005, 11:10 PM Moved to History. Maybe some here can provide better help. |
