View Full Version : Please ANSWER my question
Voli May 25, 2005, 06:16 AM I have already submitted a thread on how to organise Civ4. And I will continue to do so if you positively answer me (frankly though) the following querie I have:
Do our threads get noticed at all/been taken into consideration by Civ4 developers????
If not, what's the purpose of this forum? Just to state our complaints and views for the game?
Thanks for answering.
Darwin420 May 25, 2005, 07:09 AM This forum is for we Fanatics to share our ideas and views about the game. Originally, it was for speculation and for throwing ideas out there in the hopes the Firaxians saw something they wanted to implement. Now, with all this lovely information about cIV being released, it is become a major analyzation ground, as well as a sounding board that hopefully Firaxis will take into consideration on how much the hardcore gamers are liking the new ideas.
Oh, and we also have a lot of fun! ;) :smoke:
searcheagle May 25, 2005, 07:21 AM 1. Yes- Our threads do get monitored by the makers of civ. Soren, the head creator, said that they have monitored fan forums to find out what people liked and disliked.
2. The purpose of the forum I think also is to pretend that we had complete control of the game making procedure. If we did, how would we do combat, diplomacy, etc? In the forum, its our choice. Also, its a great way to exchange ideas and even if they are not incorporated, someone could create a senerio that makes it more like you want, especially, with the increased modibility of Civ IV.
stormbind May 25, 2005, 07:54 AM This forum can be used only for voting on their ideas, not ours.
If they implement our ideas then we could, theoretically, sue for theft of intelectual property.
So post every idea you can think of and prevent it ever being implemented! :D
mithril May 25, 2005, 08:51 AM I don't really agree with you stormbind,
the forum is titled : 'Ideas and Suggestions', not 'pattented inventory'.
If you're right about this, i'd like to take a minute to suggest to AMD and Intel to produce 5Ghz processors :)
[In a few months i'm suing them and i'm rich  ]

Then Intel and AMD will do 4,9 GHz or 5,1 GHz processors and you won't receive your royalties :p :D.
Crazy Eskimo May 25, 2005, 02:08 PM I certainly hope the Firaxis is monitering these boards.
In addition, posting here helps give shape to our own thoughts. Example: Religion. When I first saw that this was going to be included, it rubbed me the wrong way, but I wasn't sure why. After talking with folks here and attempting to put my thoughts into the written word, I now understand not only what I would like changed, but more importantly why it rubbed me the wrong way.
warpstorm May 25, 2005, 03:13 PM I know that the guys from Firaxis read these boards. They decide what they want, but they do read them.

They already thought of it ;)
Honestly, there are intelectual property laws surrounding intelectual property :crazyeye:
If you read the Firaxis site, somewhere it actually says "do not send us your ideas" for this very reason.
mastertyguy May 26, 2005, 04:31 PM Sure they read them. It makes less work for them!!!
"We may run out of ideas for civ VIII" Sid meier(?) in May CGW

He's right!!

Quote from the Firaxis site :
Question :
I have a cool game idea that I want to tell you about! Who do I send it to?
Answer :
Unfortunately we can't accept unsolicited game ideas from fans. This policy not only protects you and your ideas, but Firaxis Games and its staff members. Any unsolicited materials regarding game concepts will be deleted or destroyed immediately by Firaxis Games.
Horus Kol May 27, 2005, 05:34 AM but taking an idea from a forum like this is not covered... just like going out into Hyde Park and shouting all your ideas from a soap-box won't grant you rights over those ideas.
What Firaxis say is true though - but for different reasons.
Broom_89 May 30, 2005, 03:36 PM whoa man! so if i say somthing good, you can't copie?
what if i said these laws sound like a pain in the ar*s?
Civrules May 30, 2005, 03:54 PM I saw this on their site many, many months ago and even created a thread about it somewhere, because it seemed so bizarre...
Turns out that they can take ideas from a public place like this, but not if someone privately sends them something.
warpstorm May 30, 2005, 04:46 PM Turns out that they can take ideas from a public place like this, but not if someone privately sends them something.
...unless the person has explicitly (and legally in writing) given up their rights to the ideas.
N3pomuk Jun 02, 2005, 04:59 PM You can't Steal an Idea from a public forum because It becomes public domain. Now stealing concepts is something else.
Thes laws are not as rediculous as they mas seem. You cant patent a 5GHZ processer as an Idea, you need a concept => processor arcetecture or prototype, and you don't have that, beside the fact that GHZ have little to say about actual computing eficiency and abiliy. Sorry that Pattents don't work that way, just at bit more complicated.
cheers
PS: I think the problem with sending them ideas might be something like that in using it they agreed to buy it without written contract. or mabe they just don't want to be spammed.
brinko Jun 02, 2005, 10:08 PM for example, i first mentioned hollywood way back in jan or feb to be a great wonder,,, sure enough, in the prerelease information.... hollywood has been considered with a (?)....
for some, hollywood has become a religion, people spend more money on entertainment then they do wiping their asses

When I talk about things here, it's like I'm discussing issues with my friends. When I complain of the Government in a chat with my friends, I don't expect the Government to hear (and I hope they are not hearing!), it's just people talking.
So I do not expect Civ developers to "listen" here. If they do, fine. It's even better for them to listen to a few costumers. But if they don't listen, I don't really care, I'm here to share things with my CFC community, which includes complaining about certain things! I guess it's natural to - sometimes - hate the things we love! [c3c]
warpstorm Jun 06, 2005, 07:41 AM When I complain of the Government in a chat with my friends, I don't expect the Government to hear (and I hope they are not hearing!), it's just people talking.
Then you really ought to watch what you say, since they are listening.
