I'm looking for books on French history -- a general overview, preferably written by a French citizen. The only book on French history I have is Citizens, and that focuses on mainly one thing, the French Revolution.
Any suggestions?

Anything by Alistair Horne is well worth reading - he's often regarded as being the best English writer on French history. I'd particularly recomend his book on the battle of Verdun 'The Price of Glory' and his book on the Algerian War of Independance 'A Savage War of Peace'.

OK, thanks. I'll snoop around the local libraries to see if they carry either of those. :)

Make sure you read about Loius XIV.
