View Full Version : Slugs Of War!!! muffins Jun 02, 2005, 05:29 AM The one thing Civ3 is missing in the game is a giant mutant slug armed with twin laser death cannons!!! he he  More previews in posts 7-9 :) LizardmenRule! Jun 02, 2005, 05:45 AM hahaha. that's great mate! i agree, we need mutant slugs Bungus Jun 02, 2005, 05:47 AM Ah, yes, I was just about to request one. And what a slug it is Bjornlo Jun 02, 2005, 05:49 AM Looks like something right out of Jimmy Neutron. Steel General Jun 02, 2005, 08:13 AM This is great, something Civ really needs - a little humor :D CamJH Jun 02, 2005, 10:34 AM Can't believe I almost missed this thread! It's awesome. Couple questions though... Will it leave a slimy trail in its wake? And, do you plan on making a mutant salt shaker unit as its arch-nemesis? muffins Jun 02, 2005, 10:56 AM Run>Run>Drfault>Fortify>Attack1>Attack1 The preview plays at normal speed in Firefox, but not Internet Explorer for some reason (why anyone would be using IE when Firefox is out I don't know  ) No plans for a slimy trail (smoke/water/slime trails are a nightmare to do) though I am tempted. The Attack1 is only 50% done (I want to get it shooting like Kinboats Spaceman Spiff  ) and I'm stumped for a Fidget animation. I was going to have him wave a little French flag ... then remembered that the French eat SNAILS and not slugs  The death will be a salt free zone I'm afraid but he will "splatter" a bit :) muffins Jun 02, 2005, 11:04 AM Better looking (side) preview :goodjob: Again, plays at the proper speed in Firefox and not IE. muffins Jun 02, 2005, 12:40 PM Is this OK? Not sure myself. Might work on it a bit. CamJH Jun 02, 2005, 01:55 PM LOVE the angry look in his eys as he/it's blasting away. :) Lasers do look a little spitballish. :) If you're aiming for the Spaceman Spiff look, you could try having the laser beams long enough that they extend from end of gun to off screen (but just in flashes). Kinboat could describe the technique better I'm sure if you're interested. Maybe make the beams a little less solid too... but that's just nitpicking. :mischief: muffins Jun 02, 2005, 02:17 PM I have an almost finished death. Try to imagine a nice "splatter" sound as the slug meets his end :D drzoidberg Jun 02, 2005, 02:27 PM I have an almost finished death. Try to imagine a nice "splatter" sound as the slug meets his end :D What can I say. The best death ever in any unit. LizardmenRule! Jun 02, 2005, 05:30 PM That death is AWESOME!! I love the head as it rolls away, and the gooey oozing stuff, it's all great!! :D:D:D:D:D vbraun Jun 02, 2005, 06:06 PM It seems as if you are missing shadows on the lasers. :hmm: I love the look on the slug's face as it flies back. The Great Apple Jun 02, 2005, 06:18 PM Yeah - the guns don't have shadows, but the laster blasts do... While that death is awsome, I'm not too sure about the puddles which appear out of the ground (away from the slug). The run is cool as well. Reminds me ever so slightly of star trek... Bungus Jun 02, 2005, 06:27 PM Holy ****, thats the best death ever! Laser blast look fine (why would there be shadows on a laser blast? doesn't matter though). Death is fantabulous. Can you make the eye balls whiter? Like, really white. So they're more visible, kinda hard to see now. They look a little grey. Death animation is still amazing. vbraun Jun 02, 2005, 06:33 PM Oh yeah, maybe it could be a little brighter? Bungus Jun 02, 2005, 06:42 PM Oh yeah, maybe it could be a little brighter?Or perhaps just a little more contrast between the slug and the dark grey part of its guns. Death animation is still fantabulous. Kyriakos Jun 02, 2005, 07:56 PM this unit RULES muffins Jun 02, 2005, 08:11 PM Just posted the unit. I also missed every post after 14 (sorry). In hindsight I should have made the unit brighter (can't see the eyes very well and the green is a bit dark in places). Not happy with the green goo either, but it'll do. madviking Jun 02, 2005, 08:16 PM Muffins: it looks cool but it reminds me of the Pink Floyd song "The Dogs of War" too much. :crazyeye: Bungus Jun 02, 2005, 10:54 PM One other thing Civ3 is missing is godzilla.. Abaddon Jun 03, 2005, 05:08 AM doesnt look very slug like i tink.... the head should stick to the ground n the rockets be higher.. looks like he has a droopy nose. sorry! Bungus Jun 04, 2005, 06:35 PM Well, ****, I guess Muffins failed in his effort to create a reallistic slug unit.. Bjornlo Jun 04, 2005, 06:43 PM Wow, we have an actual slug expert. Slozenger, it may have slipped your notice, but this is a rather cartoony looking unit and cartoon critters don't look exactly like the creature they are loosely based off. Ever see Donald duck? Ever see an actual duck? Similarly Slugs are not sentient, so neither you nor I have any idea what an actual sentient, laser-beam shooting, space alien, slug would look like. I think this is a fantastic unit. It is one of my favorite CIV fantasy units. Abaddon Jun 05, 2005, 09:18 AM hell we are allowed some critisism surely? I just think it could look better. i didnt claim to be an expert, but i know that dont look much like a slug! muffins Jun 05, 2005, 10:04 AM 1 - The completed unit was posted quite a few days ago now, so input from people in the development/preview thread is a little moot :) 2 - You are right about it not looking like a real slug. For a start, the slugs in my own garden don't come equiped with twin laser-cannons on their backs and don't have cartoon eye-stalks and a droopy snout. However, my slug is much more interesting than a realistic slug since real slugs don't really do anything ... except munch my bedding plants and go 'squish' when stepped on :p |
