View Full Version : Weird Similarities Between Historical Figures?
DAv2003 Jun 10, 2005, 04:39 AM Have you ever come across this? That certain historical figures have some weird connections to each other in their lives? The first two that I noticed are Stalin and Mao. When you look across the list, there is some odd occurences.
Both came from a peasant background.
Both hated their fathers.
Both attended a school that would have allowed them to rise above their station.
Both turned away from the paths given to them and turned to revolutionary aims.
Both became passionate Communists (Though it took Mao a while to do this)
Both had a deep sense of class hatred.
Both were underestimated in their pursuit for power.
Both became leaders of the Party by outwitting their rivals.
Both dealed with rivalry to their leadership in the most brutal fashion.
Both started purges to eliminate any enemies (Though Stalin used the purges in one large span of time while Mao started them then stopped a few times)
Both evoked a Cult of Personality that is in some ways, still revered in their countries today.
Both were paranoid, phsycotic b*stards.
This is what struck me when finding about the two. But has anyone else ever come across any historical figures that have a similar pattern between them?
chancellor_dan Jun 10, 2005, 04:49 AM Hitler and Napoleon -
Both invaded Russia on June 22nd.
Both got stuck in a bit of bother in the Russian winter.
Erm...thats it!
Plotinus Jun 10, 2005, 10:56 AM I've always thought that Arius and Elvis were remarkably similar...
Both had unusual five-letter names starting with a vowel and ending in S. Hey, that's a start!
Both were enormously popular among the masses.
Both communicated through song.
Both were devout Christians.
Both went on major tours whipping up support.
Both were highly controversial, alternately damned and lionised by the authorities.
Both died hideously on the toilet.
Well, maybe I'm the only one who sees it...
allhailIndia Jun 11, 2005, 06:44 AM Heard lots of stuff about Lincoln and Kennedy...cant remember exact stuff tho
chancellor_dan Jun 11, 2005, 11:34 AM How about they were both gunned down?
DAv2003 Jun 11, 2005, 12:55 PM True but there were a lot of weird aspects about how they were gunned down seemed to match. Names and the fate of their assassains are such aspects.

DAv2003 Jun 16, 2005, 04:06 AM Why are we talking about moustaches again?
YNCS Jun 16, 2005, 04:51 AM Why not? It gives us something to do. Keeps us off the streets at night.
Adler17 Jun 17, 2005, 02:08 AM Otto Eduard Leopold Fürst von Bismarck- Schönhausen and Herzog von Lauenburg, Thomas Jefferson and the number 3
Both had a remarkable accumulation of the number 3 in both life:
Jefferson was the third president of the USA, the third son and the third Thomas in his family. He made the declaration of independence with 33, was for 3 years third ambassador in France, was the third president of the American Philosophical Society and lost the elections of 1796 with 3 votes. His 3 hobbies were painting archtecture and music. He hated 3 things at most: monarchy, nobility and fanatism.
Bismarck: Bismarck had 3 forenames. He had 3 titles: Fürst (Prince), Graf (Earl) and Herzog (Duke). He went to school on 3 schools (like also Jefferson), he served 3 kings and emperors, fought in 3 wars and lost 3 horses in battle. He signed 3 peace treaties, was ambassador in three countries and founded the Triple Alliance. He had 3 children (his 2 sons died in the Franco- German war) and 3 times assassins tried to kill him (once he was wounded but caught the assassin himself). 3 Oakleaves and a three leaved clover are in his coat of arms.

ComradeDavo Jun 17, 2005, 02:43 PM I think it's very ironic that Lenin's headmaster (in Sirmbisk) was Kerensky's dad!

Stop, you're scaring me.
I'm not going to verify all that, but as you're scandinavian i'll believe you.
Stefan Haertel Jun 22, 2005, 02:53 PM You missed the fact about Monroe, Maryland and Marylin Monroe ;)
Adler17 Jun 23, 2005, 02:56 AM Indeed. The most interesting fact ;).

I don't know what is true and what is urban legend in this, but I remembered it circled around in e-mails 5-6 years ago.
NWOG Aug 12, 2005, 11:03 AM Both had a deep sense of class hatred.
Hatred for the bourgeois (capitalist class), perhaps, but no the proletariat (working class) and paesants. Marxists tend to (or at least try to) see beyond the good/evil views. It is not constructive, not useful, not progressive nor scientific, just stupid.
:)
DAv2003 Aug 12, 2005, 04:01 PM That's what I meant, a deep class hatred for the bourgeois.

Yeah, and we all know that it's not true. At least most of us do. Anyway:

DAv2003 Aug 12, 2005, 04:34 PM The coincidences are easily explained as the simple product of mere chance.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't that coincidences are?
