A bit crude this one, but I think it's very much true.

Fighting for peace is like f***ing for virginity.

How come no 'All your base are belong to us.."?? Surely that is one of the most thought provoking and moving statements about war;)

But how about this?

"I'd rather have an army of deer led by a lion than an army of lions led by a deer".
...I'll try to look for the source..

Who said the "All you base are belong to us" thingy?

I heard a story that it was from one of those multiplayer shooters. (over the net)

It involved two teams each with a base, objective was to capture the base.

Now some people upon the capture of the base said
"All of your base belongs to us,"

Then some foreign guy with a less than perfect grasp of english (still v. good though), came out with the legendry

"All your base are belong to us"

The "All your base are belong to us" comes from an old crappy Japanese cartridge game. When it was made in Japan, they screwed up the English translations and nver fixed it. There were alot of funny messed up quotes in that games. Thats just the most famous one.

Some of my favorite quotes are from Douglas MacArthur.

Old soldiers never die and second hand of destiny and we will land at Inchon and I will crush them are two of my favorites from him.

Yep, that's right. It's got a load like
"Captain-someone set us up the bomb" and "Launch every Zig for Great Glory!"

This is a true anecdote....A convoy in the Atlantic or somewhere had a German Condor observation plane flying over the top of it, circling over and over. It was high enough that none of the ships could attain it with anti-aircraft fire.
From one of the ships, an Aldis lamp started blinking. It blinked "You are making us dizzy. Please circle in other direction".
At which point the Condor did turn around, and proceed to circle the other direction!

A bit crude this one, but I think it's very much true.

Fighting for peace is like f***ing for virginity.

Although for what it's worth, f!@#ing does tend to cause virginity in the long run, as every virgin who has ever lived came as the result of f$%^ing.

I thought he didn't even finish the word 'distance' before a confederate bullet went through his head.

It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both

Reminds me of what Terry Pratchett said about this.

"Lord Vetinari feels it is better to be permanent than either" :D

Talking about that a moment, I always loved his remark on democracy, discworld style

Ankh-Morpork had dallied with many forms of government and had ended up with that form of democracy known as One Man, One Vote. The Patrician was the Man; he had the Vote.

four quotes we should hear more of today:

"A pint of sweat will save a gallon of blood"

"Sure, we want to go home. We want this war over with. The quickest way to get it over with is to go get the bastards who started it. The quicker they are whipped, the quicker we can go home. The shortest way home is through Berlin and Tokyo. And when we get to Berlin, I am personally going to shoot that paper hanging son-of-a-b*tch Hitler. Just like I'd shoot a snake!"

"War is an art and as such is not susceptible of explanation by fixed formula"

"Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way"

- Patton -

(Naturally the people don't want war. That's simple. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.)
