The question is... will you be able to play civ after having your wisdom teeth removed? ;)

This would be my first time doing GOTM and well...

Do I need to have some sort of special thing like a membership to play it?

What are the rules?

How do I get the save?

The submission date is a problem. Me, and I'm guessing others too won't be available to play it.

I can't report my own bad posts, can someone else? I pressed Submit reply, didn't do anything then I hit it 3 more times  . Then some window popped up saying there's a problem with the system so I assumed I didn't post before, so I reposted, fixing the grammatical errors, and now I realize I've posted it seven times :crazyeye: .

I already thought you wanted to point out how this submission deadline bothers you... :p

Didn't you notice we got a retired-option for those cases?!? :goodjob:

You did not think, the difficulty level or an isolated start would be the real problem this game, did you? :mischief:

The retired option means you can end the game quickly by pressing ctrl+Q. It's not that I don't have time to play, I don't have civ where I am right now and won't be able to play at all until way past June 15.

There's no way that date is right. If so, everybody better get to civing!

What are the rules?!?!

Please guys! Use a little common sense! It's hardly likely that the game would be set to start and end on the same date. Ainwood is allowed to make copy/paste errors just like the rest of us. The closing date will be one month and a day from the release date, making it 15th July. When I get home later I'll fix it. Until then, let's just play the game?

The GOTM Site (http://gotm.civfanatics.net) provides lots of information about the competition, including rule, submission info, past results ....

Thank goodness, I thought it might've been an error until I saw "Please note the date:." I guess he always says that. With only one day to play I thought was the challenge that made up for the game being warlord.

If you look at the submissions page you will note that GOTM 44 is not even one of the games listed for current submissions - a clear indication that the date is screwed up. In spite of a recent suggestion that we should reward fast players, I really don't think you should ever expect to see a game released here that has to be played in 24 hours. Some players take that long to get out of bed in the morning:eek:

I saw on the GOTM page that Classic 44 Babylon was there and it said "submissions closed." There was no picture, however so it may have been hard to notice.

Ok, the sky has stopped falling, I've fixed the dates.

Hmm...finish by the end of the day? I think I might have to anyways. I'll probably be gone for over a month so just in case, I better submit this one before tomorow. Hey, maybe I'll be the fastest submitter, and I'll actually be the fastest at something ;) . *Runs off to play*

It's hard for me to play a warlord game seriously.

But I think I can try for a fast (real-time) win.

Yeah, but its also hard for some to play a deity game seriously. ;)

It should be a bit of fun though - might have been better with riders or even mounted warriors, but you can't have everything. :)

Hmm, I used to have Civ3 PTW installed on a different computer with a 1.27f download (I think), but I don't have the update on this one. Where can I get 1.27f from, the links on this site don't seem to go anywhere? Would like a crack at GOTM44, so need to get this done soon please.

The patch download link for PtW 1.27f on this page (http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3/patches/) seems to work here.

what does this mean Archer/Bowmen added defensive freeshot at 1/0/1 (INCLUDES BABYLONIAN BOWMAN)

AlanH
Jun 17, 2005, 02:33 PM
When an archer or a bowman (your unique unit in this game) is attacked he gets one defensive shot at the attacker, like a catapult or cannon. So if you use them as defenders they can often knock a hit point off an attacker before he goes on to try to kill your defence, reducing his chances of success. I believe this was a balancing adjustment made to Conquests, and it has been added to the GOTM games as well. 1/0/1 means his defensive shot has an attacker strength of 1, zero defensive strength (irrelevant) and a firing rate of 1, so he can only ever take one hit point at best.

Actually the 0 is for range.. 0 means you cant use the bombard command with archers and bombard adjecent tiles

Belated due to weekend away...

Thanks AlanH, playing now

BTW, like the defensive shot thing, if the range is 0, that means you've modded it to be artillery unit does it?

AlanH
Jun 21, 2005, 05:04 AM
It works as an artillery unit when an attacker hits the stack it's in, and it performs normal archery tricks when defending itself or attacking.

Just a quick "I wonder if" question for the experts.

If your Bowman is attacked by a red-lined Knight and hits with that free shot does the knight die and would that start your golden age?

AlanH
Jun 29, 2005, 07:08 PM
Any kill by your UU will trigger a golden age ... BUT I'm not sure if the Bowman's free shot can be lethal, as it's an artillery bombardment. He'll probably behave like a catapult if you try to target a red-lined ship. You aren't allowed to do that, so your Bowman probably won't fire.
