View Full Version : Truely unique Units
Himalia Jul 03, 2005, 12:07 PM As we are all aware we have the great and small wonders available in the game. Is it possible to have a Unique unit by this i mean a one off. Just like a Great wonder. The nearest i can get is to create the unit i want but make it unavailable. Then create a wonder that every x turns makes ones of these units. Just by making the amount of turns you have to wait so high that your only ever going to get one on a game. The problem is you dont get one straight away. Any way round this that anyone can think of ?
Kyriakos Jul 03, 2005, 12:22 PM You can create a unit, give it a tech prerequisite that cannot be accessed, then place it on the map in the beginning of the game.
egroen Jul 03, 2005, 12:36 PM Would that tech then have to be placed on the tech tree?
CyberChrist Jul 03, 2005, 12:39 PM 1) Make unique unit available to build at the appropriate tech at 0 shield cost to build, but also with a 100 pop requirement.
2) Make a unit that is essentially useless, non-disbandable, possibly immobile and requires a non-available tech - and make it upgrade to the unique unit.
3) Give 1 of these useless units to each of the nations that you want to eventually have a unique unit.
Using the unit upgrade paths the same useless unit can be used to upgrade to different unique units for all nations.
This will work nicely for any player, but there is no guarantees that the AI will upgrade to the unique unit of course.
Himalia Jul 03, 2005, 01:44 PM Excellent thank you very much.
StJimmy Jul 06, 2005, 12:44 PM i have a question close to this, is it possible to have a unit that you can build over and over, but you can only have one on the feild at a time, like say, you want to be able to summon Zues. you can summon him over and over but there is only one Zues.
Or if you want to call forth hjahova

CyberChrist Jul 06, 2005, 02:28 PM There is no method that would allow this (that I am aware of)
tjedge1 Jul 06, 2005, 05:11 PM Would that tech then have to be placed on the tech tree?
The tech idea would work and just make it a non-era tech so it wouldn't have to be placed on the tech tree and then nobody can learn it either.
Goldflash Jul 06, 2005, 05:29 PM ......... Is this De Ja Vous for anyone else but me? I SWEAR tis guy has posted this exactr same post in the past.

Do I say yes?
Guard
Yes.
Matthias
Yes!
Priest
...you have been found guilty by the elders of the town of
uttering the name of our Lord, and so as a blasphemer...
Women disguised as bearded men
Ooh...
Priest
...you are to be stoned to death!
Women disguised as bearded men
Aah!
Matthias
Look, I'd had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was
"That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehova!".
Women disguised as bearded men
Oooh!
Priest
Blasphemy! He said it again!
Women disguised as bearded men
Yeah! Yes! Yes!

Btw. what exactly is the effect of the "100 pop requirement", and pop requirement in general?!
CyberChrist Jul 07, 2005, 06:37 AM Btw. what exactly is the effect of the "100 pop requirement", and pop requirement in general?!The effect is that the unit in question can only be build in cities with 101+ citizens - in other words highly unlikely that any player would ever build one and the AI certainly won't. But since Pop Cost won't be taken into consideration when upgrading units, it will only cost you the difference in shield to make an upgrade like I propsed in my first post.

Ah, interesting feature. Thank you- didn't know anything about that 'till now. So when I write: "pop requirement= 21" only cities with at least 21 (or above) can build the unit/item. Perfect- and your idea is quite sound indeed.
Himalia Jul 07, 2005, 08:45 AM This was a great suggestion and has really helped. Its abit of an odd way round the problem but hey it will do. Otherwise its not happening. Its given all kinds of odd ideas for upgradeing troops through this method.
