I was thinking it would be nice to research a tech that gave me the ability to create a custom religion. Meaning I would be able to 1) Give my religion a name, 2) make/choose a symbol to represent my religion, 3) and be able to give my religion bonuses. I'd prefer this over choosing pre-maid worthless religions.

I wish people would just stop complaing and just glad they added another new feature like religion and it isn't useless! You can get several bonuses example: free religion more religions you have the the more bonuses you get and missionaires are like spies sense they give you line of sight in oppenent's territory when settled into their cities. It would be nice as you said naming and giving your a religion a symbol but i don't care for the choosing own bonuses idea.

I can see where bloodfire was comming from, there have been so many threads on religion that they are comming out of our ears, but did you have to be so hard on the guy? It wasn't like it was another "xxxx shouldn't have misionaries" thread, nor a "xxxx religion should be included" thread. He wasn't even making a complaint.

Molock, come up with how you would see your ideas actually working, their effects on gameplay etc and i will see what i think.

its funny how this works
First you could choose government, but you could only choose from what was already pre-made the game and what you have researched
now you will be able to custom make your government with civics

Now that we are getting religion we can only choose from pre-made ones that we have researched.
I wonder whats going to be next for religions...?

I sort of like where you are coming from, Random Insanity. I think its not too far fetched to believe that, once they have Religion firmly accepted within the game, they will then proceed to add lots of really cool features to allow for greater differentiation. One way is, of course, to mimic the Civics system, and have various 'religious' and 'social' techs grant you new options for assigning traits to your religion (but only if you are the founder). Another option is the one I suggested, where the overall play style of a religion's founder determines that religion's traits.
Though I was initially resistant to the idea of using Real Life religions, I have since warmed to the system. Now, I just feel we need some more religions to choose from-especially in the area of Animism and Polytheism.

What traits would a religion have, and how would those translate into civ-world advantages and disadvantages, especially without offending a believer in a real religion by proxy?
