I think it may be unrealistics to have blue rivers, so here is a preview of brown rivers. Just a concept, don't know what the actual colour should be.
Thoughts/comments.
El Justo Jul 05, 2005, 08:28 AM it's a great concept! however, i'd probably make them darker or a colour that is in better contrast w/ the terrain.

Less green and more brown/yellow (maybe we will somewhen have a map witha usefull Tjangtse)
Dark Russell Jul 05, 2005, 11:16 AM I think they need defined "banks". The hue feels right, but it should be a bit darker maybe? Overall, I think it is a great idea!
Edit: I have a rough example of what I was talking about. I shifted the rivers colours a bit. Took 180 off of the hue and 30 to 37 % off the brightness. It still needs a bit of work. I hope you don't mind me doing this and posting it here but you don't have PM. :)
Take the palette if you want it.

I like the feedback and pictures are great feedback.
I was actually thinking that they were already a bit too dark and was considering lightening them a bit.
I guess it it depends on where you are, the rivers around my surroundings are a sandy light brown colour after a heavy rain/run off.
Of course there are red soils hence the colorado's name and I have seen greener and blacker water in rivers as well.
Maybe some white water could be added to one of the tiles to show rapids.
I will be playing around, I just want an alternative to the blue rivers.
Varwnos Jul 05, 2005, 05:21 PM Another idea would be to inclide small rocky areas in the center of the water

I think I may take another stab at them tomorrow. I am also planning on releasing my terrain mod tomorrow as well. I hope you will give me some feedback on it.
Not to big on lighter coloured graphics unless the have well defines edges as they seem to get lost in most of the surrounding terrain. I am looking forward to seeing what you do with them!
How do you alter the colours? Convert to RGB for H/S/L changes or do you colour palette manipulate like I do?
aaglo Jul 06, 2005, 12:14 AM I don't like the brown rivers - if any other colour than blue, I'd suggest green.
TopGun Jul 06, 2005, 12:34 AM Hmm... not my thing, that's for sure. But nice idea. IMO, green would work better.
siebodii Jul 06, 2005, 07:27 AM I live along the Mississippi and it changes colors based upon runoff levels and cloud cover. Colors range from a slate gray (winter and windy days) to deep blue (summer) to dark green (late spring) to muddy brown (early spring and fall).
Goldflash Jul 06, 2005, 05:28 PM Quite Honestly, I think they look terribler. Stick with blue.
