View Full Version : Creation Problem

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but I'm trying to make a custom map with the custom rules.

I tried to create a new civilization by going into the edit rules, then going to the civilizations, and clicked "add" where it lists the civs. Then, when I got all the civ stats put in, I saved, and tried to load the custom map, and I can't find the civ I created(Not in my selection, nor was it in the AI selection). So I go into the Editor again, and go through the above-mentioned steps, with the same result(the civ I created wasn't there, but the other settings were)

Another problem I had, I tried to create a new unit. It was the civ I was going to play's UU(it wasn't the original one, but one I made). When I saved, and went into the custom map on C3C, I tried to build the unit, and I got an error saying that civ 3 was going to shut down. IDK if I need to put in a new patch, or what(I got the game late may, early June, and haven't dled any patches)

Any help would be great. If I messed up somewhere in the description, let me know, and I'll clarify. BTW, this is my first map I've created, so yeah, you may have to describe some stuff to a newb;)

The unit:
It was supposed to be an upgrade of a worker(It had all the jobs of a worker, but it was also attackable, and its nationality couldn't be found. It was amphibious, bombard, had all the air missions(now that I think about it, that may have been what was wrong, it was an air, and it had movement), it could airlift, transport. Just basically a cheat unit for when I want to kick the AI out of somewhere

EDIT:
Here is the error I got:

Error Reading File
Missing entry in "text\Pedialcons.txt":ANIMNAME_The Best.

"The Best." is what I put on for the civilipedia, but what is the rest of that?

Before adding graphics, its a good idea to check the tutorials section. It sounds like you didn't edit the pediaicons.txt file, which is how the game references all the pcx. and flc. files. The editor just references the Pediaicons file
Btw, that unit won't be possible to make/use. I think you crossed 20 other lines the programmers never intended modders to go over, like having a flying worker.

I think the unit will work, but the AI won't know how to use it. Doesn't sound like that's a problem given how he wants to use it.

I think that the problem with adding the civ is fairly simple - you didn't go to the Scenario Properties menu and highlight it in the list of playable civs.

As for the unit, Bungus is right. If you add a new unit you need to add the PediaIcons text file to tell the game where to find the graphics for it. I think that there should be a thread in the Tutorials forum telling you how to do it - and there's one at the top of the Units forum too.

AFAIK, you shouldn't have a space in the civopedia entry. Change "The Best" to "The_Best"
