A long lost feature from Call to Power - space combat. Not the kind of abstract air combat that happend in Civ3, but the lively fighter-to-fighter encounters of Civ2 and CTP. Along with it, actual space and sea colonization would enhance the game greatly.

Also, the feature I missed from Civ2 Test of Time is the multi-map. It means the game is played on several maps at a time. For instance, civilisations could develop separately on two distinct planets, then meet up in the space age and fight for supremacy. Or civs start up on the same planet and turn other worlds into battle-grounds...

Sorry, this was posted in the wrong forum. Can a moderator move this in "Civ4 Ideas and Suggestions"?

I love this idea... I really miss those massive battles between spaceships from CTP... bombarding the ground from above...
This could be a GREAT adition to Civ4, although I know it won't happen... however, they could leave the code open for a mod to do this, or for an expansion entitled "Civilization IV: The Space Age" :mischief:

Hmmm.

Two issues with this.

One) The representation of space in ToT and CtP was incredibly limited and did not allow for much outside of orbital movement for the other maps. If the multimap system was more robust, perhaps. If the game was designed to "zoom out" into a space view similar to Masters of Orion or Galactic Civilizations, then "zoom in" to specific planets for development, it might work better. Civ, by design, is a one planet game.

Two) When delving into the realm of science fiction, the tone of the game changes drastically. No longer will Civilization have the feel of history to support the design mechanisms built in. You will be dealing with purely arbitrary concepts based on one's imiagination. It won't feel nearly as real or seem nearly as interesting for those who bought the game to follow the growth of a real-world empire, even in a fictional setting.

Multimaps were in CIV2: Test of Time, and apparently it sucked greatly (never tried it myself, but read the reviews).

On the space-fighter thing, NASA was looking into a kind of supersonic fighter that could enter near earth orbit, and then re-enter to enhance the speed of traveling around the globe.
