Time is up for the next quickgame. Last time the focus was war, so this time it will be research/diplomacy. This perhaps, does not offer a big challenge in whether the goal is accomplishable or not, but the challenge here is how fast the goal can be achieved.
The Game
The civilization is Scandinavia, and the game is at 1130 AD.
The Viking Empire has been sending curraghs out in the ancient age, but gave up quickly after a few miserable and one almost succesful, but still failing, suicide run. Instead the Vikings have been bee-lining to navigation, to get a save trip over the ocean. But before they even learned astronomy, a Dutch ship has just appeared and established contact. The Vikings realise that they are seriously backwards in technology.

The economic situation is not what it could have been. The Vikings are in a monarchy, and as a result research and income is limited. Throughout the empire there is lots of abundant units and city improvements that are draining the treasury every turn. On the other hand, the benefit of this that the people is very content and large cities are kept from rioting even with 0% luxury spending.
The Objective
The goal of this game is to research and trade your way into the tech tree as fast as possible. The objective is to reach the industrial age in the shortest amount of turns, and have at least six of the middle age optional techs (there is a total of eigth).
The rules are the standard rules we use in cotm with these additions:
-you must maintain a clean reputation at all cost (except the cost of breaking a gotm rule), but if it's unavoidable then it is acceptable.
-military alliances are disallowed (to discourage from wars, since that isn't the primary focus in this game).
-city improvements present at the beginning of the scenario may not be sold. Colloseums is an exception and may be sold anytime.
