Hi everyone.

Lets use this thread for some team discussion.

First things first.
We need a team name. This is not my team it's our team. Any thoughts?

On this game, the way I see this team is not much different than how we've played SG's together. Personally, I don't like the formality of the demogame hierarchy. My view is K.I.S.S.. But it's up to the team if we think it should be different.

One major difference in this game is we won't be able to manipulate humans the way we manipulate the AI. I think we'll be on a small map with 4 human opponents. It will get bloody early.

To start the discussions.
What civ would you like to play ranked 1-3?
I think the ag. trait is really huge.
1.Iroquois-- best 1st techs IMO, huge UU and great traits
2. Celts--pottery, gahmungous UU, and religious may have some benefit with short anarchy.
3. Mayans-- good 1st techs, average UU and good traits.
After that I would lean towards Aztecs over the Dutch on continents and pangea.
The Dutch start same as Iroquois on techs, UU is less interesting vs. humans and Seafaring may be worthless.
I
The next most important tech to me is wheel after alpha and pot. Finding horses is huge.

Anything is open for discussion so post away.

K.I.S.S. (Killer Intelligence Space Ship) is fine.
St. Simeon'sis another option (aka Simeaon the fool ;))

There's only 7 of us, so I don't think we can have a hierarchy. KISS is the best!

Iroquis seem the best option for me, being AGR and having Alpha, with a very good UU.

Regarding the name, anything about Fools/Idiots/other stupid people is good. :D

One note that RegentMan and I have decided on (before this thread was open, we aren't trying to limit you guys) is that only 2 of your top 3 civs can be AGR. We don't want this game to be an AGR-fest with everybody's 3 civs being IRO, CEL, SUM, etc...

Once we get a few more signups we will release the ruleset for any last minute changes and to see if everyone agrees.

What about Team K.I.S.S.? :)

I've only played the Iroquois once, so I'd like to try them out again.

I've always loved the Celtic UU, though.

Or we could be completely different and be someone like the Mongols. The shear strangeness of that Civ choice may make the other teams see us as a non-threat.

The shear strangeness of that Civ choice may make the other teams see us as a non-threat. :lol:We could be Americans....

But I think Germany is a decent civ. Militaristic is good for MP, and we'll probably be the only SCI civ in the game. It'll ne easier to lead in techs, so we'll have superior units. And if we stand until IA, we have the game. :D

Edit: Plus, it starts with BW. We'd have swords after only 1 tech!

Edit 2: K.I.S.S. => Stupid It-Simple Keepers?

All you are *required* to have is someone to play the turns. You don't need a military leader, domestic leader, etc. That can all be decided by the citizens.

Or is that not what you were saying?

Yeah that's what I'm meant GA. We will always have someone to play the save but I don't think we need a president/dictator dude or anything.

OK Ginger Ale said two ag and one non ag. Playing on small maps I would say we want an early UU so I'd vote.
1. Iroquois
2. Celts
3. Persians
I think Militaristic and Seafaring are zero help in this type of game and my concern with the English is whether we'd see a GA.

Stupid is as stupid does. Team Big Idiots and Grumps? B.I.G or K.I.S.S. work for me? I'm not sure we qualify for Grumpy old man status.

BTW let's not overestimate ourselves yet. None of us have PBEM skills or human vs. human experience from what I know.

A few other questions. We need a UN rep to bring back our team's responeses. Why don't I go ahead and act as our rep on this to K.I.S.S.
Do we have a color we'd like?
We need to pick 5 civs and only 2 of the first 3 can be ag. Here are mine.
1. Iroquois
2. Celts
3. Persia
4. Aztecs
5. Sumerians
How about the start? My thoughts are bold
Water %? 60%
Land Form? Could we get it so the continents have a coastal link?
AIs?No
Difficulty Level (for # of content citizens)?Emporer
Map Size (I am leaning towards small or tiny - no bigger than standard)?Tiny or small
Barbarians?No
Age? 4 Bill
Climate? normal
Temperature? normal

Another key question: do you want SoZ? If so, should it require Ivory? No from me but it's cuz I hate Wonders.
Should it produce Horsemen instead of ACs? No[/B]Any custom changes? I would like to have a way to reach the other continent early.
SGLs? On / off? Off

IroquoisPlisken
Jul 16, 2005, 06:10 PM
I've always like the Roman red.

The Civ choices I agree with.

I agree with Continents with a way for galleys to cross. Otherwise the diplomacy won't get interesting until late Middle Ages (and some Teams may be dead by then).

About AIs, personally I'd like to see one or two, but from what I've seen, no one else agrees with me.

SGLs and Barbs I agree should be off. If someone got lucky with a Leader or Goody Hut, they make take over the game.

Everything doesn't make a difference to me.

Bede
Jul 16, 2005, 08:08 PM
I'm a random kind of player so civ choices are always left up to the computer.

Query: Are we choosing our opponents or our preferences for assignment?

Continents with 60% water should make for reasonable diplomatic opportunities on standard or small maps.

Normal temp, damp climate, old world are my usual choices but I sense that there may be some differences in play here that I cannot account for.

Emperor is a good solid difficulty level.

SGL's and barbs off.

Whomp
Jul 16, 2005, 08:32 PM
Hopefully Sesn will post here soon and Darwin's band is rocking the whole state of Maine right now so maybe we'll hear from him tomorrow.

Bede--I think the admins will determine randomly who were are located next to. I know a map has been requested.

Seems we have some consensus on Iroquois and Celts.
For #3
Bede, Bugs and SW like the English.
Pentium digs the Germans
and
IP and I like Persia.
Also we may need a 4th or 5th civ. I need to clarify whether these can be a ag civ after the first 2 of 3 are ag.

On the map we all agree SGLs and barbs off. SoZ?
Continents with a route would be nice. Smallish.

Bede likes an old world and after thinking about the mongering skills of this club I lean that way too. I think it could give us a bit of an edge.

Red it is unless someone objects.

Team K.I.S.S. or Team Grump or B.I.G.?

Ginger_Ale
Jul 16, 2005, 08:43 PM
Whomp: You cannot have your list of 5 be: AGR, AGR, AGR, NON-AGR, NON-AGR - only 2 of the first 3 can be AGR (and 1 more of the next 2 if you have a list of 5).

It seems this team has come to agree upon Continents, 60% water on a small (?) map - temperate climate, 3 billion, and wet? Please discuss.

Also, what about barbarians?

Query: Are we choosing our opponents or our preferences for assignment?

Your opponents are following the same process, selecting the top 3 or top 5 civs they would like to be.

GA I think Bede and I like 5 billion years. No barbs or SGLs. Too random. I still say no on SoZ. Team?

I think the team agrees with Iroquois and Celts. The only question is whether the other teams will also have Iroquois as their #1. Should we have Celts #1?

For #3 we are still in the air so please post your non ag #3 to #5.
I like
Persians
Romans
Japanese

We would like red as our team color.

Sir Bugsy
Jul 16, 2005, 09:50 PM
My number one perference is Iros then Celts.

Older is better.

No SGLs, No SoZ, I prefer Persia then Rome for non-AGR.

Don't give a hoot about color, just as long as all the colors are distinct. Having Iroquois and Portugal both being a shade of purple stinks. We have that in GR7 right now.

3. England
4. France

No to SoZ, that is another random thingy and AC's generaled by humans are just too overpowering.

I'm a little confused myself. I think leader is who would be the person who communicates in the various discussions and rulesets by the admins. I guess than would be me and my title.....Lead Idiot guy from the nation K.I.S.S....I guess.

I just looked at the ruleset and now I've read we can ask for 2 of 3 ag civs and then 3 of 5 ag civs.
That changes my 3 thru 5 choices.
3. Aztecs
4. Persians
5. Romans
Other than that I don't think we would ever even know how to use any of the other exploits. Read through the thread if you like but to summarize it don't do things like share resources with an ally or share arty and such, don't trade detailed maps without the tech, no espionage outside of the game by looking at other team saves, .
Ship chaining is legal though. I will post more on this if I seem something strange but feel free to look at the ruleset.

Iro, Celts, Persia, Rome, English.
No barbs, no SGL, no SoZ.
Emperor, continents, standard size, 5 billion, don't like wet because it's too much jungle/marsh for a game like this.

It looks like this will be our settings. Seems we got everything we wanted.

60% Continents with a possible, safe galley crossing via coast (or 2 tiles of sea), Small Map, Emperor (i.e. 1 free content citizen), no AIs, no SGLs, no barbs, no SoZ, temperate climate, 5 billion years old, normal temperature.

No no, I didn't come up with that, SW did. I could be Idiot Processor :) Done and done.

FYI something I was not aware of is we can't send a save zoomed out (exploit I guess)

I don't know if I'm overreacting here but I don't particularly like this rule.
On rules 0.3.2 and 0.3.3 I would assume any losing team member would not be allowed to offer information to their new team that this team wasn't aware of. Is this correct?

I don't see why they wouldn't be. The refugee can feel free to say something that their new team might not know.

Example: Team A is elminated, and member AA joins Team B. AA knows Team C has a huge stack of knights on Team B's borders. However, Team B has planned for war with Team C for quite a long time and has built up a stack of ten longbows. It would be hard for AA to vote against a declaration of war without revealing the stack of knights.

:hmm: I'm of the opinion "To the Victors Belong the Spoils"--Andrew Jackson.
I would prefer to amend this slightly where a conquered team can not join another team for, say, 7-10 turns. IMO if they are able to join another team it would add some randomness to the game.It might also create a little fun between the teams. Knowing you have to attract refugees somehow without them fleeing to another team will be hard indeed. What do you all think?

SesnOfWthr
Jul 17, 2005, 04:14 PM
Sesn could be plain old Johnny Damon.

Of all the words to describe him, plain and old are probably two of the poorer choices. :p I'm a big Tek fan, personally, but I have a tough time calling him an idiot.

RE: team changing. I don't understand this at all. Why would you join another team if you got eliminated? Someone could conceivably lose repeatedly in the same game. I really think that is unnecessary. IF it's allowed, then there should be a minimum of ten or twenty turns before any spoiler info is allowed. Not to beat a dead horse, but I really don't understand the concept and would vote for people only being allowed on one team for the duration.

Ginger_Ale
Jul 17, 2005, 04:19 PM
Sesn, please see if this rule meets your need (there is no planned time between switching teams once you are eliminated):

"you are not allowed to give out spoiler info that the new team you are on would not know about if you had not joined. If you have to give out spoiler info to prove your case, then do not post / vote in the thread."

Or perhaps we should have it so that you are not allowed to post in your new team's forum, just to read and lurk?

SesnOfWthr
Jul 17, 2005, 04:23 PM
so what - let's say we get eliminated after 40 turns, or whatever. I can't go and just browse the other threads to see what's going on? Is that where the need for a new team arises? I guess I'm mainly confused why I want to join a second team if we lose?

Ginger_Ale
Jul 17, 2005, 04:30 PM
Because of espionage concerns, no, noone is able to view all 4 team forums simultaneously (except RM, myself, and the mods). So you can pick a team to 'lurk' or even discuss with to stay 'in the action'. You do not have to do this, it is merely for your entertainment.

SesnOfWthr
Jul 17, 2005, 04:36 PM
Because of espionage concerns, no, noone is able to view all 4 team forums simultaneously

Ahh, I guess thats the part I'm missing. Unfortunate we have to do this, I guess. Then I would say go back to the ten or twenty turns, or prohibit spoiler info, or whatever. However, if people are intent enough on cheating, they could always use PM's.....

Whomp
Jul 17, 2005, 04:54 PM
My big concern is that someone who loses may be bitter. If they're bitter and vengeful they may do anything in their power to weaken the team that whacked them. Refugees have to walk a ways to get away from their oppressors I think it's fair that a team that loses should have to wait (some turns) before offering any info to their new team. Personally would be ok with GA's amended rule.

BTW I love Johnny Damon, he's sweet. Calling him an idiot was a term of endearment.

well, first thing...
since were NOT going to lose this is a mute discussion :D

but if some really freakish accident happen, like us losing each and every city, i guess 10 turns of running away is long enough.
after which you could comment on what happened UPTO that 10 turn mark.

and if you lose, well... you lose.
we have some of the cream de la Civ here, and SOMEBODY's got to go, right?
i will be upset if the inconcievable happens, but will just wait for another chance.
(e.g. - losing team members can choose if the want to join a new team or not. they can also decide to quit politics and lurk a team (becoming a citizen, but not a ruler))

Ah, ah, ah, you are missing the point I think. You can only change teams after you are eliminated - not just at any time you like. He can't just "jump to the winning team whenever he wants" - first he has to be eliminated, second he has to know the winning civ, and third he actually has to know who the winning civ is.

No Ginger Ale. I don't think we've come to a consensus on our 3 to 5.
1. Iroquois
2. Celts

3. English 3 chose as their #3
4. Persia 2 chose #2 and a bunch in other spots.
5. One more ag civ. I said Aztecs/IP said Maya/Sesn said Sumerians so we need a few more votes here. I would suggest we make this our #3. Ags are hard to beat.

SesnOfWthr
Jul 18, 2005, 08:06 AM
I did indeed say Sumeria, but in reality, it doesn't matter that much to me for the number five spot. I've always had good luck with the Maya as well.

Let's just nail it down and make whatever our final choice. One would think that if we can get this done and be the first with a preference, then it shouldn't go down to number five anyhow.

I'd say just go Iro, Celts, England, Maya, Persia, and get the choices submitted.

@IP yu are correct but Ginger Ale asked for 5 so that's what we should do.
@Pentium all of our map settings seem to be agreed on now all we need is a map. the map is not ready so this game is probably still a little ways away.

I'm probably being a complete arse but what happens if we don't get the Iroquois or Celts? I assume the other teams will want them as well.

We have the opportunity to get another ag civ #3 so I would like to try this one more time and narrow down our decision based on the assumption we won't get our top two and maybe #3. IMO The English will not be taken by any of the other teams so getting them as our #3 would not be a problem. Against human opponents I am concerned about their late GA and if it's against all ags civs it could be a rough start but....

If you don't mind please rank the 3 ag civs below so we can narrow it down to another ag civ. If you don't want a ag civ just put them #5 on the 2nd list.
For me
1. Aztecs--Militaristic is not a good trait but with a cheap UU with good scouting skills, extra movement and potentially could allow us a rush against the other civ on our continent.
2. Sumerians-- Good traits, cheap UU but defensive.
3. Mayans Good traits but a 30 shield UU without barbs, no bombard and doesn't seem to have a lot of value versus swords and horses.

Then rank the ag civ, Persians and English.
For me...
3. Any ag civ.
4. Persians
5. English

I will use a ranking based on your votes to come up with the order.

Don't really have a problem with whatever, Whomp, Damon is certainly one of the idiots. All I said was that I like Tek more, but I don't really consider him to be much of an idiot, so he wouldn't be as good a fit here.

So there you go, I can just be Johnny Idiot. :D

EDIT: I also thought the AGR could only be 2 of the top 3, and 3 of the top 5, which is where me putting them fourth came from. If we can make all of our top 3 AGR, then so be it. Of the ones left, none really matter. Just give us the Celts or Iro and be done with it. Don't we get first dibs if we submit our prefs first anyhow?

Ginger_Ale
Jul 18, 2005, 11:44 AM
Only 2 of your first 3 can be AGR, and only 3 of the 5 total can be AGR. The list SW posted is fine.

Is Mayans the final answer?

Sesn: I was planing on using a random number generator, but I'll see.

RegentMan

A random number generator would be the best way. It doesn't force the other teams to rush their discussion simply to get their civ choices out there.

Whomp

Ginger Ale--yes Mayans will be our final answer.

You have 3 of your first 3 choices as AGR civs - only 2 of the first 3 can be AGR.

Revised:

1. Iroquois
2. Celts
3. English
4. Maya
(5. Portugal :D)

Understand? Is this revised one your true final answer?

Since only one person can play the saves I have an idea.
What I was thinking is we could play this SG style but try to pair off people to keep the save moving. Let's try to match up people whose availability is opposite.

No probs Darwin. My idea is simply to let people play the save and keep the save moving. The bigger aspect of this game will be the team discussion and eventually our diplomatic relations. Personally, I think the conversations with the other teams will make this quite interesting.

I will post in this thread to accumulate the times.
Funky Punky Idiot Soul Dude 4 pm to 10 pm GMT

Idiotic Northern Frog Barbu 8 pm to 5 am GMT Weekdays

Most other people aren't a part of public groups - but you can be (and you should be)) - then, you'll get access to your private forum in the DG7 Team PBEM forum where you can 'talk about the game', decide on how to run playing the save, making info threads, whatever.

Hi I'm checking in, still a bit puzzled which forum to go to though... the PBEM or will this one do for the time being? (In case you were wondering, I have never participated in a demo game, nor a SG :) )

Welcome aboard Crakie. Most of us know each other pretty well and consist of a bunch of idiots and grumpy old men. We have plenty of SG experience but not PBEM experience. Barbu is our most experienced PBEM player and I am playing my first in a locked alliance vs. the Russian Forum. My civ is the Iroquois and I'm #1 score, economy, pop etc. :smug:
Not too tough to do with the Iroquois after 43 turns
Tell us your dealio? Strengths, weaknesses, anything else of interest?
I also hope we get the Iroquois or Celts. If not we may have to rush the other civ on our continent into a despotic GA.

Well, my obvious weakness is not having played Civ in multiplayer mode ever... It will be a learning experience for me, because I suspect it will be a whole different ball game ;) Against AI's I recently managed a DG win, albeit with 'easy' parameters (Byzantines, archipelago). I do well on Emperor games though... the extra settler on DG is killing me! I have no specific style, I value infrastructure as much as offensive military strength :)

In real life I'm a 27 year old Ph.D. student in Organic Chemistry, although 'student' is misleading as in my country (The Netherlands) it's a paid job. I played Unreal Tournament competitively years ago, but Civ is my only love now. Other hobbies include alcoholic beverages, formula 1 racing and soccer.

Your turn!

Position as Plenipotentiary gladly accepted, I think.

:hatsoff: to Crakie, barbu, Darwin.

As an introduction to those who have not had the misfortune to make my acquaintance previously:

Well known in the SG community.
Fair to muddling as a GOTM/COTM player.
Bull headed war monger: build a big force and take it straight to 'em.
Hate corruption and waste. Will build a courthouse in the capitol to get rid of those lingering red icons.
Love to build harbors and markets and banks.
Will only build Industrial Age and Modern Era Great Wonders. Decided a long time ago the others aren't worth it. Only exception is Smith's Trading Company but I prefer to capture it.
Never played a DemoGame or a PBEM.

I'm available almost every evening except when I'm working in the bookstore. Have been known to play three SG's in a row (7PM to 4AM) and then go to work at 1:00 PM.

Whomp
Jul 21, 2005, 03:38 PM
Me?
Well I guess I'm the one to blame for bringing most of this crew together. I must admit I am completely biased so I chose people I think are fun and who "got game".

This team is all of that.

My PBEM experience has just started with a PBEM vs the Russian Forum. Tomoyo, RegentMan and I are in a locked alliance on one continent versus the Russian forum on the other. We are doing very well so far on score. We are approaching the end of the AA and turn 44. No combat yet so it's still too early too tell.

Most of my skills have been developed in the SG forum. The last 7-8 months have been a awesome fun and learning this complex game.
An example of a piece of that learning that will definitely come into play in this game is building reg and vet ships. Load the most valuable units in the regs and lesser ones in the vets. This way if you come under siege the vet will defend first.
I can also see how the "bikini babe trick" can work on humans too.

I consider myself to be a warmongering fool. I see no reason to build a Wonder other than as Bede said until later in the game. My biggest weakness is on the corrupt cities. What specialist? What build to use? I'm learning.

I think I'm a solid emperor but have won solo on DG and will almost certainly win a solo arch deity game I'm playing now. I am about to hammer the #2 on the 2nd island I now share with them and #3 is distant.

I can't wait to get this rolling! Let's have some fun.

SesnOfWthr
Jul 21, 2005, 05:23 PM
Well, I guess since everyone else is jumping off the bridge, I don't wanna be left standing alone. :crazyeye:

As far as my playing style, I guess the best summary is this: I have one a single cultural (LKsomething), a couple space, maybe one diplo, and a couple of histos in the dozens, or perhaps hundreds of games I have played. Like Bede and Whomp, I say give me arty, and lots of em, and bring the hammer down! :hammer:

I guess I'd say I'm a fair to middling player, though I rarely play any solo games. I think the highest solo I've played is DG, and that one sort of petered off when I felt it was already pretty much won.

I've played in a lot of games here on the forums, and it amazes me how much I have and still am learning playing in SG's. I've played in some incredibly fun games here, and got a bit addicted. After Rl forced a layoff for me, I've just started to get back into the swing of things around here. And I'm a bit wiser about the addiction too. ;)

Oh as far as PBEM goes, none of that thus far. This game will pop the cherry, so to speak. :D

Pentium
Jul 22, 2005, 12:30 AM
OK, my turn.

16 years old, so I'm not a grumpy old man :(. Idiot, then.
And I don't drink :D

I play C3C Deity, usually win, but I'm still not ready for the big jump or for a Deity milking game.

My style: Totally builder. Most of my games are played with 0 military, except for MP. I try to lead in techs, and get gpt for them. Untill last month, I only had 3 types of victory: 2 dominations, the rest were UN and SS. For HoF purposes, I needen at least one victory of each type, and so I did.

My SG experience is limited, because I haven't played a single SG from the start to the end. I joined one near the end, and the second was abandoned. :( Currently I'm in MP6 and Tribute1.

No PBEM, no DG. I submitted a couple of GOTM's, one of them was conquest defeat on Regent. But then I quit.

And I'm a QM :)

oooh oooh me next.....

I'm 28 and I'm a Loser.

I started the Loser SG series where I met most of the people in this group. I'm improved my game during those games from sometimes wins Regent to usually wins Emperor. You can see my xOTM progress in my signature. My military style was mostly learned from dman. The basic premise is hit 'em hard with fast units.

I played in SGOTM6 and won a nice wooden spoon for our 167k culture victory. I lurked in SGOTM7 under Bede's team. So I guess I have 2 spoons but not really. So I started recruiting for Team Wooden Spoon in SGOTM8. The Team's full now but feel free to lurk once it starts if your not in another team.

No PBEM, No DG.

I was once playing 6 SG's + 2 xOTM and my wife threatened to take my Civ CD. So I laid low for ~2 months then started easing back in. Right now I'm finishing TR04 (5CC diety) SS race and that's about it.

You showed your's, I'll show you mine...

I'm 27 and I'm an Idiotic northen frog.

I have non xGOTM experience, After learning about another civ site that played diplomacy, I've been there and learned alot about PBEM, I've played my firsts this spring. That site also played in the multi site demo-game (like this game) and is now into the finals. (one great thing about PBEM, is that you get rid of the one more turn syndrome)

Before multi player, I was the the extreme builder type of player waging war only when attacked or in serious need of a ressource.

In multi-player, 2 thing come in to play, real human diplomacy and real human strategy. So you need to have a real army to not appear as an easy target and when another human attacks you, you do not get time turnaround and build defence, you are already dead.

I'm a warmongerer. In my current Emperor solo game as the Mayans, I killed off two AIs with Javelin Throwers. I also can't seem to finish this game. I swear, I've been playing this since before Christmas. :crazyeye: I have won each Victory Condition at least once. Although, if it weren't for SGs, I'm not sure if I ever would have won some of them (20k, for instance).

I've started the last 3 COTMs, but haven't been able to finish any of them (I'm still at 1250 BC for COTM 14 :mischief: ). I've only been in SGOTM7 on Team Obormot, and I'll be on that team again in SGOTM8.

Here goes:
Started playing in feb this year and has slowly but steadily progressed to DG-level mostly thanx to SG's with excellent advisors like Bede, Whomp, Doc T and Original Idiot AK. Soul_W tought me the jive sort of.
I'm still learning a lot so I haven't adapted any hard core strat yet. I do like to build a solid foundation for massive attacks thou and I'm probably not that much of a risk taker. I'm very found of the arty stuff when it comes to :hammer:. I'm so so on MM'ing and a middle range trader. I guess adapting a long term strat based upon a changing scenario is my strenght. My weakness is I still do stupid mistakes, ha, ha.
I'm currently pestering the world as an ever expanding Russia (hooray for cossack armies) in GOTM and has a Mayan Deity that could well turn out a space victory (easy settings a lá HoF).
Never played Demo or pbem so more learning to do.
On the side I'm almost dead, born in -66, and make my living by programming the guy programming your computer (psychologist). I also play drums in an alt.country outfit named Sixpack Holiday.
Looking forward to a tounge in cheek game with this cheerful crew.

My, my, my :) What a strange bunch we are :) From Seniors to Zombies in just 2 posts :P

Well, I'm as new as it gets when it comes to CivIII and everything related to it :P 27 years old with boring life.
Loved games and gaming untill a 1-2 years ago. Got fed up by all the elite players butchering newbies and bragging about it. I was mostly RTS and FPS type of player. Long story short I read somewhere about this mod for CivIII (rise and rule) and guy was writing with such fire that I had to check it out. Got here in search for mod, made my little thread, went to store and found CivIII and conquests for like lower than bargain bin. Thought what the heck, I still have my Guild Wars unopened :P

Rest is history... Can't even sleep at night without thinking about Civ :P I actually dreamt about my game at least twice so far.

Enough of me babbling. I'm currently playing an (for me) epic game on Monarch. Off course I would never been able to get this far without help from Bede and rest of you. I'm winning big time and I want to make my first Conquest victory :P As I'm still learning I'll be here to absorb every single word, so please no dirty stuff :P

I usually hang on forums whole time while I work (I'm IT-engineer but work as hmmm how do you call it, Customs Clearence Agent is my title but I just like write down stuff from a bunch of papers), when at home I play and keep an eye for interessting threads in Tips & Tricks and General Discussions :)
Everything is so new for me so please bare with and my questions :P

OT
Bede I sooooo envy you! Only job better than yours is reading those books :P

well, missed this one as well.
but like Sid once said, never mind the bollocks ( melhisedek, please UNREAD this part :D)

a brief outline to the glorious career of the Jive Talker, the Punky Funky and just plain Wackey, Soul Warrior.
33 years old. as old as Xman was, and julius is still huntng for me. goodthing i've given the secret of Currency to Judas in exchange for Peace and 30g.
now i can relax abit before the romans string me up on the cross.

started civving about 3 years ago, but got really hooked about a year ago, right before i joined this glorious forum (oops, a roman place. must flee....)

dayjob is IT. in a water engineering company.
night job? DJ. mostly now i just do it for fun, so i play whatever i feel like, absorbing huge amounts of Alcohol through the air (as my mouth is usually either busy kissing the pint, or kissing the clientle)

like most of you have robably noticed, i can be a bit hard to understand.
its not me! its the voices that made me do it!

a bit of shameless promotion....
check my sig for the type for music i play.
i might even put up my new mix cd there if asked (preferably by 2 nubile, 19-22 year old babes. you can sort of pick my style if you look at my posts on the Babe Thread)

a small disclaimer...
if you are offended by anything i EVER say here, please dont be. i dont mean to offend anyone (not regarding religion [see above], race or whatever) except Bloody terrorists, that should all be hung, drawn and quartered. Racists and Rapists that should be set upon MEDIEVAL style and just plain rude people. if a girl is REALLY nice looking, she can be rude to me. i dont mind. itmight even be fun

ok, i think enough civ for today.

a final note of thanks to ALL members of the Academy for giving this reward, the venerable teacher for putting up with my nonsense, and barbslinger for putting a ruleset onto my civving life. :worship: the

now a really final note.
as some have noticed it was my BDay about 10 days ago (cant really remember much) and ive been knackered ever since. i guess i will have to rest up for another week or so to be back at full capacity.

if my turn comes up, PM me and ill get it in upto 4 hours (unless im sleeping)

location of my body is GMT+1 (isreal) but my soul is in London.

goodnight everybody

Must be my turn. :)

I've noticed in the discussion of individual titles there are a couple of Grumpy Old Men here, so I'd like to claim Grumpy Old Grandma or something similar...Grumpy Granny?...Ancient Crone???. I'm 63. :D

I played my first Civ game last November, and I'm pretty steady on Regent now. I'm a peaceful builder type, played one Warlord AW before moving up to Regent in June, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the current AWR game I wanted to do before moving up to Monarch. Most of my wins have been SS.

I've never played anything other than solo epic games, but I've followed several SGs, beginning with the "endless" GK01 Training Day. I've followed other SGs with Bede, Own, and Whomp in them, so I feel like I kinda know some of you and you've taught me a great deal. I hope that learning will continue and look forward to direct guidance.

I live in California (GMT -7) and am usually available from 4-10 pm PDT weekdays and often the middle of the night on weekends (playing Civ, of course). I'm an accountant for a tiny non-profit corporation, and my busiest time of year is from July 1 through the end of the first week in September, so I won't always be around quite as much for the next month. After that I'm all yours.

Welcome again, Ancient Crone (I like it!).

Here is an invitation to join the next of the TGOM games. I like to play them on Emperor and if you can handle AWR, you are definitely ready to move up...

TGOM??? I know about GOTM, COTM and SGOTM, but T?

Oooohhhhhhh, Training!!!!!!!! Right? Kinda like you're doing with the Team Bede Gets to Know Each Other? I've been following that one. If that's what you have in mind, yes, and I'm absolutely thrilled!!!

BTW, on some other types of bulletin boards I've used Venerable Crone, which I tell people means either "old wise woman" OR "wise-a$$ old woman"....take your choice. :mischief:

The Venerable Bede and the Venerable Crone: what a team!

Actually TGOM stands for The Grumpy Old Monk and sometimes it's for training, sometimes just for fun.

I should have known. I've seen you call yourself that many times. ;)

Just for fun would be enjoyable too, but you're well aware of my playing level now. I'll count on you to let me know how you'd want to deal with that. :)

I know we have some music freaks in here e.g. Whomp and Soul (Biggest freak Lullaby a.k.a. The Prog Germ is missing), so I figured I might do promo for a swedish alt.country/americana outfit I saw the other day. They're off to Nashville next week to play a big americana "convetion" and they're absolutely spiffing if you dig that stuff. Sound clips at www.willyclayband.com , enjoy.

Edit: The Original Idiot has entered the Ship of Fools. Welcome AK :band:

Edit II: Welcome Nikodemus and Tomasz. Hope you will enjoy our friendly anarchy.
