I am one for as many as possible ... but will not vote until I get more info ...

I can forsee potential trouble with the filling of all positions ... and would a team member only be allowed to hold one position?

also

what is difference between
Captain vs President
Diplomats vs UN Rep
-> are you suggesting UN Rep directs policy and the diplomats carry out the negotiations (via e-mailing) this I like :D

I was under impression that we all discuss the various issues of domestic, trade, military, science ... so I cannot see the need to have these as positions ... again though I am a virgin to these games and it is all a learning curve ... whatever is chosen will be entertaining ;)

I agree with fe3333au. I have never done this before, but would think that if we all were to contribute opinions, and let the elected rep decide the outcome, the gameplay will be more colloective. I'd rather not see a few team members working the game as they see fit. Of course, the irony is that I am just lurking.

Why not unlurk :p

I'd love to unlurk, but my machine just can't run the necessary version of Civ3. I'm on an iMac, and there isn't a mulitplayer release for Mac. I'm hoping that will change with Civ4.

Besides - I'm really just hoping to learn more game techniques from you guys: how you approach things will certainly be different than my ingrained habits.

You dont need to play to unlerk, and you can always lerk when you are a full member, but it doesn't really matter.

I don't see the need for anyone more than the presedent and the team captian. But i will hold my vote less someone convince me otherwise.

Team Captain is the person who represents the team in the UN thread. He is the offical spokesman for the team.

President is the Person who plays the save.

Domestic Minister is the person responsible for all the issues regarding city placement, slider settings, research objectives and queues.

Defence Minister deals with all our troops. He is also responsible for declarations of war and of peace.

Foreign Minister is the main guy who deals with the opposition. He is responsible for getting trades up with the other teams.

Diplomats are responsible for talking with their team they are put to talk with.

We need another position(s). We need to have the possiblity of having Governors. They will be responsible for city queues in their province.

Maybe I'm using the term incorrectly. When I say that I am lurking, I mean to say that since I cannot download and examine the save, my activities here can't be much more than advisory or suggestive. In other words, I am a blind citizen. But I'm very happy to at least be blind and still be able to participate!

Lurking generally means that you just read what's going on and rarely post. It has nothing to do whether or not you can play/view the save (although your interest in the game might be affected). I think the term was prematurely applied here.

president, diplomats, defense minister, and foreign minister seem to be the only needed positions and wouldn't team captain and the president do the same thing

All I say should be considered in the light that I have never played a Demo / human game.

IMO all these positions are bollocks. As is the constition. I didn't even read the whole constitution cos I don't have time and don't want to spend the time that I have reading crap that won't play the game. Sorry Hero - I'm just being my over-ebullient self again. I don't mean to be harsh. I'm not saying trash it, that's just my opinion and I'm perfectly happy to operate with everyone regardless how we decide to run it.

I'm not in favour of all these roles because in my mind:

a) It makes it hard to understand who is controlling which aspect of the game.
b) If someone goes AWOL from the game does that mean our defence / diplomacy etc goes AWOL too?
c) More roles means more threads to check in on - time factor again.
d) This distracts from playing the game well.
e) It leads to a few people controlling aspects of the game rather than everyone contributing equally.
f) Point e means that we can be operating contradictory projects.
g) I for one have an interest in all aspects of the game, so would prefer to have input across the board rather than focus just one say "Science". I guess others do to?
h) Is for Harry.

IMO - we should simply have threads which are titled "Science and Science Trades", "Military & Foreign Office", "Home Office or Domestic Issues", "Intelligence", "Taxation" etc. I would be far happier to check in on these and vote in polls and then just one reliable person 'makes it so'.

All this may seem inappropriate and I may have missed what the thread is driving at. But those are my thoughts, please clarify if I've gone astray.

I think Declarations of War and Peace should be a foreign's job, not Defence Minister

war declaration and peace should be foreign ministers job not defence minister
thats what diplomats are for right? and diplomats are part of the foreign minister's thingy (cabinet or whatever)

What I said was just a suggestion. If you lookat the constitution, you can see that is not what we decided on.
