View Full Version : Hilter Animated Leaderhead
ccm01 Dec 19, 2001, 08:15 AM Adolf Hitler Animated Leaderhead v 1.0
Made By: ccm01
This modification replaces Otto Von Bismarck with Adolf Hitler as the leader of Germany. Only the PCX and FLC files have been changed. If you desire to use this modification, you will have to edit the civ3mod.bic yourself to change the German leader's name to Adolf Hitler. The inspiration for this came from Depression's fine Napoleon modification. Like his, the facial expression changes are very subtle, although noticable. I also opted to not make modifications to the images to represent the four different time periods in the game (this will come later as I become more motivated).
Please back up your files before using this. If you blow up your machine after installing this, don't blame me (as you were advised to back up your files)
To use, simply unzip and copy the contents of the unzipped folders into the corresponding folders in the Civilization III\Art directory (i.e Hitler\Advisors\BS_all.pcx to ...\Civilization III\Art\Advisors) and say "Yes" to overwrite the existing files.
hope you enjoy.

Wolfshanze Dec 19, 2001, 10:07 AM All mod work is always appreciated (at least by me)... of course, be prepared... some nutcase will inevitably flame you for not being politically correct, but keep up the good work, and don't let anyone put you down!
I already did a Hitler leader for the Civ3 Fascist Patch... oddly, I get more flames just for the Fascism, rather than the Hitler head!?!?!
ccm01 Dec 19, 2001, 10:07 AM Anyways, any comments are welcome (good or bad). Now that I've figured out the format and the easiest way to do these, future leaderheads and FLC files shouldn't be too difficult (just a little time consuming). If you have any requests, please just post them here and I will see what I can do when I have the time.
Also if you include a suitable picture of the leader you are requesting, it would be helpful. Portraits are better than photographs because they blend much nicer into the pre-existing game animations.
Wolfshanze Dec 19, 2001, 10:18 AM You should be able to upload the image to this server, then do an [ image ] [ /image ] command to view it.
I'm currently stuck in Saudi Arabia, and the server you have it posted on is verboten to Saudi internet (for some reason, Civ Fanatics is pretty much the only website NOT blocked in Saudi).
ccm01 Dec 19, 2001, 10:32 AM I have tried to post the images and they simply don't work from angelfire's site. However, you can also get the files and images here:

Thanks for the interest
dannyevilcat Dec 19, 2001, 10:48 AM Looks great, can't wait to see how it looks in action :goodjob:
Wolfshanze Dec 19, 2001, 12:50 PM Did you do ALL the images?
Such as the round images in the F4 Foreign Advisor screen and the cult, conquered, etc images?
I would have downloaded long by now, but like I said, I'm stuck in Saudi, so I can only ask questions... I was able to see your happy, angry, normal pics... they look good... so you got all the "kissies" on the face for cult and bandages for conquered and what-not?
ccm01 Dec 19, 2001, 01:05 PM Yes all pictures of Bismarck have been replaced with custom Hitler images that fit in with the others in the game (complete with kisses, hearts, etc.)
You can also check out the "Conqured" picture at the aforementioned sites now.
The following files are included in the update:

Wolfshanze Dec 19, 2001, 01:31 PM That's fantastic work... I wish I was that talented...
Oh well, I actually wish I was back home so I could download the mod and use it!!!
Any chance you'll be doing a Stalin anytime soon!?!?! That's really great work you do!
P.S.
You have an incorrect spelling of Hitler in your title line of the first post!!!
UPDATE:
Well, that Yahoo site worked, I was able to download it (thanks for putting it there!). Now then, any chance I can find the Napoleon mod you spoke of? I can't seem to find Napoleon's face anywhere?!?!? (maybe you could post it there too?)
ccm01 Dec 19, 2001, 01:42 PM Thanks...
I have a nice picture of Stalin that I am gonna use when I get around to it...
Wolfshanze Dec 19, 2001, 02:12 PM What good is Hitler without Stalin?!?!?
When you get to it, Stalin would be great (I got a few more weeks at least before I return home from deployment).
Robespierre Dec 19, 2001, 09:27 PM Where can I get this Napoleon leaderhead modpack you mentioned? I have Napoleon already, but he's not animated.
Also, there already IS a Stalin modpack out there - made by some guy called crazyroach, you can download it on this site.
dannyevilcat Dec 19, 2001, 11:27 PM But Crazyroach's Stalin doesn't come with the advisor screen pics or the various moods, etc. and I'm thinking he's probably moved on to bigger and better things (if there is such a thing), since I don't think he's posted in a long time.
Knightrider Dec 20, 2001, 01:11 AM Hey, I love this mod, but I'm wondering just how far the testing went on it.
If you look at the still-shots on your computer, they look fantastic, but the problem starts IN GAME.
Yes, when I'm actually PLAYING Civ3 (which is the whole point), I clicked on old F4 to get my foreign advisor screen, and the picture of Hitler appeared all-right, but the color pallete was off (giving me some weird unintended neon colors) and I saw a black box around Hitler instead of the round circle.
I'm sure this is unintended and a pallete issue, but could the author please double-check his work IN THE GAME?
It looks just fine and dandy in a paint program, but IN THE GAME, the mod isn't looking right (at least not in the F4 screen).
Also, I noticed EVERY IMAGE ISN'T REPLACED.
The author forgot to replace the images in the Civilopedia... there are still a couple of images of Bismarck in the "Tribes" section of the Civilopedia.
This is NOT a flame or blame post... I'm sure these are just simple overlooks to what is otherwise an EXCELLENT mod. Just a little polish could be in order here!
Please test these images in the game, instead of just in a paint program to make sure you get the results that you so richly deserve, and keep up the excellent work!
:goodjob:
ccm01 Dec 20, 2001, 04:26 AM Believe it or not, I actually did test it in the game and everything seemed to be OK. I will double check on this and make the appropriate changes.
As far as the tribes pictures, I was actually unaware of them. This too will be fixed.
Thanks again for your interest.
Wolfshanze Dec 20, 2001, 05:43 AM I had the same problem in the F4 screen as Knightrider... pallete off and a black box around Hitler... otherwise, looks great.
P.S.
1. I downloaded it off the Yahoo server... is it possible that perhaps that one is corrupted in some way? Maybe you should download that one and test it?!?!
2. I started a new game, played as Germany myself, as soon as the game started, I clicked on the F4 key, and bada-bing, bada-boom, the Hitler image was distorted (bad pallete, black box)... maybe when you checked it (by loading a saved game), you got a differant image and it was okay, but if you do what I did, you may see the same error. There are some 12 images on the F4 screen (3 types X 4 eras)... maybe only the one we saw is corrupt, and perhaps that one image was overlooked?
Robespierre Dec 20, 2001, 12:02 PM ccm01, could you please tell me where you got the animated Napoleon leaderhead? thanks
ccm01 Dec 20, 2001, 05:54 PM New in Version 1.1:
Added Tribal pictures for Germany (both large and small)
Fixed discoloration of ingame .pcx files (fixed by adjusting the color to use the original index color rather than Photoshop RGB colors).
http://ccm01.sphosting.com
Thanks again for the interest in my project and yes, all files have been tested.
If you find any other problems, please post them here and I will do my best to resolve them.
Enjoy.
Robespierre, sorry it took so long to get back to you. You can get the fine Napoleon mod here:

ccm01 Dec 20, 2001, 05:59 PM Wolfshanze,
Stalin is up next...
Thought you might like to know that...
Robespierre Dec 22, 2001, 08:47 AM Thanks!
ccm01 Jan 02, 2002, 05:54 PM New in Version 1.2:

Stalin Jan 03, 2002, 09:07 AM I thought this head was supposed to be animated? It doesn't appear to be so for me. I have looked closely and cannot see any movement in the diplomacy and civ selection screens. What's going on?
ccm01 Jan 03, 2002, 03:08 PM In a nutshell:
The stock animated leaderheads are very animated (blinking eyes and moving heads) and have very noticeable movement.
The custom FLC files have subtle movement of facial expressions only, because to change anything more than that would require a herculean effort for it to appear seamless, which is my primary goal.
If you need a greater explanation read on.
The way the animated leaderheads work in the game is like this:
Each leader has 8 FLC (movie) files associated with him/her. These FLC files cover the four historical periods in the game (this is where the era specific clothing and backgrounds come from) and shifts in mood from angry to happy and vice versa. Each FLC movie file contains 121 frames and lasts 8.47 seconds.
What happens is that when an animated leaderhead FLC movie is run during the game, it is not the whole movie that runs, but rather a snippet of a few frames based on the leaders disposition (say for instance frames 1-40 of the total 121 may represent "happy", whereas 41-80 may represent "normal", and 81-121 may represent "angry"). The animation runs from 1-40, then from 40-1, and from 1-40 again (in an endless loop) until the screen with the animation of the "happy" leader is closed.
The stock animations are based on many distinct images and are literally animated by graphic artists.
The custom animations created by me are based on three distinct images ("happy", "angry", and "normal" facial expressions) and the morphs that exist between each of these images comprise the movies. Since only the facial expressions are changing and there is no other movement, the small snippet of frames that is shown will yield no noticeable movement. However, using this method, the mood of the leader will always be accurate with the seamless expression on his/her face, because I am using the same number of frames (121) and delay between frames (.7 seconds) in the custom animation as is used in the original.
Blinking eyes and moving heads are not an option when using the morphing technique described here (it requires a bit more sophisticated graphic animation skill, a different animation technique, and significantly more time).
Hope this helps.

Stalin Jan 04, 2002, 04:14 AM Thanks for the explanation. I'm not expecting the kind of quality of the stock animations, it's just that - even when the mood changes - I couldn't see any animation and I thought something was wrong.
sKirmish Jan 08, 2002, 04:56 PM yeah...but...stalin in russia...churchill in england...napoleon in france...would be also good...
now something personal...it would be great if i could download the face of George W. Bush to put in america...it would be so fun then to **** off the yankees...
ccm01 Jan 09, 2002, 06:11 AM You can now only get the Hitler files here:
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/ccm01ccm01
Angelfire killed the other site because of too much traffic to it.
Additionally, here is a sample of the images:

redsoxrule85 Jan 12, 2002, 08:07 PM if you have it on your hard drive, you can attach 1 file to a post, so you can put the path in the attach file box, and itll show up(i found out it doesnt show in previews, i just put my fdr pics in my leaderheads thread, so i found out the hard way:) )
Vonotar Jan 12, 2002, 10:43 PM Looks like yahoo has pulled the plug as well
If you need webspace for these files give me a shout, they should be within my space/hits limit :D

MetalChild Jan 19, 2002, 06:02 PM well, i've got Hitler implemented as the german leader for some time now, and just yesterday i had my first in-game encounter with him.
said he: "i am Hitler of the noble germans. i send you greetings in the name of world peace!"
cool. :D

That's what he says now.. but you just keep an eye on him!
ccm01 Jan 20, 2002, 05:18 PM i am glad you are enjoying my work...
imagining Hitler saying that IS pretty damn funny...
LordAzreal Jan 21, 2002, 04:17 AM It really beats me why anybody would want to replace the man most directly responsible for Germany being a unified empire (ie. :goodjob:Otto Von Bismarck:goodjob: ) with perhaps one of the biggest butchers history has ever beheld:satan:. I am well aware of Hitler's elaborate propaganda machine and his great military power, but if it wasn't for Otto Von Bismarck, Germany would've still been divided up into the loose confederation of fiefdoms it once was rather than the powerful, unified empire that proved to be a tough customer in Europe for many decades since.
But I guess this mod has some credibility as a possible addition to a WWII mod.:yeah:
MetalChild Jan 21, 2002, 06:11 AM you are sure right that bismarck was the more honorable leader (to say the least...) of those two, but we all know that hitler was the more significant to world history.
and when i replaced bismarck with hitler, i kinda liked it playing against him. being confronted with his presence alone makes me shudder.
ccm01 Jan 21, 2002, 07:27 AM The main purpose of my custom leaderheads is to spur a nice World War II mod (at least initially anyways)... Take a look at the leaders I have released thus far (Hitler, Stalin, Churchill, FDR). I will do others, but the World War II leaders are my main focus now...
PaulH Mar 08, 2002, 06:12 AM Great work ccm01!
These leaderheads all deserve five-star ratings with or without the period-specific costumes. Your artwork blends perfectly with the game.
Keep them coming, please.
Engima Mar 11, 2002, 10:03 PM I need help installing the Hitler leader head. I put into civ3/art/leaderhead and i put it in there that right right?
ccm01 Mar 12, 2002, 04:59 AM Once you extract the files you should have the following folders:
Advisors
Civilopedia
Flics
leaderheads
All you do next is to copy the contents of each of these folders into the corresponding folder in the Civilization III\Art directory and select "Yes" to overwrite the existing files.
For example:
Copy the contents of "Advisors" into the installed "Civilization III\Art\Advisors" directory.
Copy the contents of "Civilopedia\Icons\Races" into the installed "Civilization III\Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Races" directory.
Copy the contents of "Flics" into the installed "Civilization III\Art\Flics" directory.
Copy the contents of "leaderheads" into the installed "Civilization III\Art\leaderheads" directory.
I hope this helps.
