Now we can start the second term. Nominations.

I nominate fe3333au because he has done a good job with the Looking Glass thread, so why not give this job to him. Hopefully we can have just one contested election.

Fe3333au is not only doing a great job, but has a great screen name!

In reality - during the early game - this position mostly consists of keeping tabs on what little foreign info we get from the "F screens" - isn't that right? (Which Fe is obviously good at)

A question for the FAs, would you consider apointing citizens who still wish to remain in the government into the ambasadorship if at some point we run into another team? :)

Yes, but everyone else who wants to be one will also have to be given consideration.

My qualifications:

Veteran of both ISDGs (MSDG and ISDG (II))

MSDG
Served as Ambassador to Gamecatcher and Poly
Minister of Science

ISDG
5 Term Ambassador to Civ3Brasil (125 turns, about 9 months)
President

Though these numbers alone will not elect me. I am very skilled at intelligence gathering. For my references, I give you these threads from the ISDG:

Excellent Reporting for your previous employ Emp  ... may the best dagger be cloaked ;)

My platform would be to harangue and if necessary harrass the Ministers responsible to get us a Navy a happening asap ...

EDIT - with regards to diplomats ... those would be appointed after an interview process ... probably in the tavern (when we build one)

There are no term limits in the Constitution... you can nominate anyone you want. However, I'd like a Psychic's Poll titled "Will Feaurius III remain Foreign Minister for a second term?" I know where I'd put my money ;)

I believe he said he was taking a break from office this term. If he wasn't I certainly would 2nd him.

no offense, but you haven't been around much, I know it took a day or two for fe3333au to talk to you set up a chat. I wouldn't have any problem voting for you if you could promise to be more active, but otherwise, I don't think I could.

Has someone set up that poll ?! ... damn I could probably actually get some psi points up on that one ...

I also thought that people had to change positions after 1 term ? ... accademic either way ... as I feel a bit shell shocked ... and will sit back and concentrate on Looking Glass and other stuff,

At the same time feel that we are off to a very good start ... we are the only team to 'meet' with 2 other rivals :goodjob:

I will vote for a Foreign Affairs Minister who will

>Consult with the people on all big deals
>Advertise in advance when big meetings will take place ... that way proper briefings can happen :p
>Retain the AIM Whispers Room which will run concurrantly with major negotiations (It really gives us an edge)

As to the powers of diplomats ... I guess my way is to give them less powers so we (as players) at least get to have some fun ... and feel involved in the process ...

We have developed a system that suits this and I think that the other teams will learn to respect that ... therefore I would also vote for someone who will continue to devope this ...

I will of course offer my skills and advice to any future Minister ...

I must say that I was actually looking at a position to give me a slow and easy feel of what a demo-game it all about and to lesurely develope through consultation, a diplomacy system ... ended up a baptism by fire ...

Anyway ... It's a fun position to have for 20 turns ... goodluck

As of right now, Emperor is the only candidate.

Questions For the Candidate(s)
Do you plan on appointing separate ambassadors for each rival, or will you simply have one ambassador that acts as a representative to all teams?

What are your thoughts on our current Diplomatic Treaties? What about them will you work to refine, and what will you try to achieve with our neighbors in the next term?

Emp.Napoleon
Sep 22, 2005, 07:14 PM
Separate ambassadors for each team, more people get diplomatic exp that way.

As of right now, I will go along with the wishes of the people are keep the alliance with KISS. Right now, I do not think it is a good idea for us to get into the war (if there is one) on the other side of the pond. We should focus our money on buding up our nation over here. Sooner or later we will fight the other continant, and we want them to waste money on the war.

I accept ... the nomination of Foreign Minister

Been thinking hard about it ... I think we are in a very critical point in the game ... all teams know each other ... officially or with strong suspicions.

Following from this ... we will need to be able to react swiftly and decisively on the diplomatic front ... We cannot allow extended time between action ...

Therefore as someone who has time and will sadly not be distracted exploring the other game  because of :wallbash: evil, stupid Firaxis who in their wisdom only released that game in DVD format  in Australia ... and even through an eventual equipment loan suspect that I will probably need to upgrade my system anyway :suicide: ... <deep breath>

Anyway ... I will have time to act virtually everyday ... and instruct others to fill in when distracted by ... ummm ... other delights  :D

i'd rather have a more hands on aproach as FM and look over all chat logs whenever i can which will be often
chat schedules would not be neccessary really unless it is a very imprtant chat or a chat that is due for a long time (like D-nut chats)
a little more agreesive this time around, we got to make 'em work for us, not the other way around
and that's about it i guess

peter grimes
Nov 07, 2005, 09:33 AM
And then there were three...: kentharu, fe3333au, and Classical_Hero

This will be one to watch!

My first question to the candidates:
In this next term, TNT stands to be the biggest wildcard on the Diplomatic front. They have proved themselves to be wily in diplomatic dealings: TNT struck out against their continental neighbor, they have maintained utter silence with their closest geographic OC neighbor (just a curragh trip away), and have offered MIA a seemingly fair trade. What is the best way to handle relations with TNT?

Kentharu
Nov 07, 2005, 03:03 PM
i think we should handle them just like KISS and try and get that buddy buddy thing going on, it is my hunch (since i'm not the TNT ambassador) that they would be a better trade buddy than D-nut, since d-nuts have been silent as well, but i think it is due to the fact that they are disorganized

Application Form

Desired Position: Foreign Minister

Name: Kentharu

Qualifications:
Served 2 terms as ambassador
I'm pretty much awesome
and im good at negotiating :D

Shameless Dig at Myself:
Unlike Fe and C_H i can't open the save :p

Plans if Elected:
kick some @$$ and get TNT on our side, a little moe hands on and get an embasy as soon as possible, more looking at Chamnix LONG explanations for what i don't understand :p, more fun with cheese!!!

fe3333au
Nov 07, 2005, 09:27 PM
Cheese ... I like Cheese :p

I see the foreign relations with the other two to be totally different to that with KISS ... My heart sings each time I think of KISS  ... we have a special relationship ... Full disclosure for important external issues ... and most for internal :mischief: ... honour the wording of the agreement if not the totally the spirit (Hut popping, I want advantage over them)

Therefore I disagree with the above statement from my politcal opponent ... We should look at the other teams in a different light ... They are NOT our equals ... The other two teams have shown their true colours in different ways ... and I am extremely wary of them and their antics and motives ...

They have proven that they cannot be trusted ... we should attempt the role of Gepetto to their unsuspecting Pinocchio :D

We will use them and not the other way round ... I will push for all deals with the other continent to be to our advantage ... and we will not respond to blusterings from abroad ... it is time to take our pride back especially with Doughnuts !!!

I would go for one off deals and nothing binding ... escape clauses would be essential ... I take pride in our agreements and our word should be our bond ... So I would go for manipulation and try to be as subtle as possible ...

TNT is most likely a one off ... we have stuff they want which will allow them to better prolong the war ... we shall see ...

I want the war between Nuts vs. TNT to continue as long as possible ...

I have proven to be a great negotiator  and will continue the same ... I will however take more of a role and expect full reporting from ambassadors ...

Editing the chats will be essential, so they are easy to read ... these logs are difficult enough without having to plough through OT and cross conversations ...

I feel there is room to improve ... and am willing to give it a go ... we need to be coordinated in our diplomacy ... so aambassadors will be responsible to keep upto date ...

At the same time I will consult the team ... and also think having the odd team chat would be good ...

Feb 03, 2006, 07:52 PM
I nominate Fe3333au for another term.

Fe has consistently impressed me with his diplomatic and negotiation skills. In my view, he is largely responsible for making MIA into the diplomatic powerhouse that we have been thus far.

Questions for Fe (and any others who run):
1) I know there’s some concern over what will happen between the Dnuts and the KISSers – I’d like to hear more about how you plan to thwart any KISS attempts to turn this into a 2 v 2 game with KISS/Dnuts against MIA/TNT.

2) If TNT starts to get beaten badly by Dnuts, what do you think we might do? Try to aid TNT? Abandon them and join Dnuts? Try to Recruit KISS to counter a growing Nut empire?

3) If the Foreign ministry ends up with a budget – how would you prioritize spending the money?

:salute:

fe3333au
Feb 04, 2006, 01:53 AM
Thanks General_W :salute: ... and good questions

I must say that due to breakdowns with KISS, the need to be available for AIM chatting has really declined, therefore anyone who wants to take Foreign Ministry for a drive ... should nominate ... after all, we all tweek the correspondence and offer ideas (I do not see that changing)

The Department will be run as it has now for most of our game with slight tweeking for improvement in reporting and general proceedure.

Questions

1) I know there’s some concern over what will happen between the Dnuts and the KISSers – I’d like to hear more about how you plan to thwart any KISS attempts to turn this into a 2 v 2 game with KISS/Dnuts against MIA/TNT.
I have initiated trading deals for luxuries, the more that Nuts get used to them the less they will be inclined to lose them ... due to a quirk in Meleet's world, we are in a better position for comodity swapping than KISS as they mirror each other with the commmon luxes.

I have also suggested that knowledge trading would be available if wanted ... we can always outbid KISS and crowd them out of dealings by presenting a better deal ... TNT will be a stumbler in this last idea, however clever wording can always open up new horisons. ;)

2) If TNT starts to get beaten badly by Dnuts, what do you think we might do? Try to aid TNT? Abandon them and join Dnuts? Try to Recruit KISS to counter a growing Nut empire?
I do not see us as assisting militarily TNT, only with the odd watcher report (however these reports could easily prove unfounded or incorrect, especially if Nut's whispers prove to be sweeter :D).

The last message from TNT has caused me to think that they are not our ideal partners ... I await the responce to our latest proposal ... They are talking about disbanding a city in their 'tactical' withdrawal !!! ... and judging from the Nut intel their battle strategies are often telegraphed :shakehead I have grave concerns and if they dismiss our advice, well we can always align with an open eared team ... either way it is imperative that KISS are excluded from any real alliances with the Battle Islanders.

3) If the Foreign ministry ends up with a budget – how would you prioritize spending the money?
Oh joy :bounce: what a wonderous topic ... I see that a Black Purse to be extremely usefull and dare I say essential ... instead of begging for coppers (since there will always be something better to spend on ) ... the darker side of Internation Relations can be explored (through discussion of options), untethered and come into play  I see it only fair to have a Black Purse, :cooool: after all many a gold piece in our treasurery carry the stamp of exotic lands.

On to spending plans ... Embassies Embassies Embassies ... at least with Nuts ... i fear them the most in double dealing and I want to see if any goods are traded between them and KISS.

Later of course ... sabotage and in the case of KISS, maybe getting cities to flip (I'd want advice from more experienced players on this) ... maybe even stealing technology ... not for us but more so to disarm KISS when they want to trade with others ... :mischief: they will find their knowledge to be common throughout the land's and people's of Meleet

Ask any further questions ... and if I am not successful, I will continue to maintain Looking Glass and the Vault resource

As I'm now running for Domestic Minister, I too have to decline this nomination.

However - Fe – if you are looking for a race, I know a certain Weneral_G that will run against you and give you a run for your money! (If a vicious campaign is what you're after, Weneral_G is the best (worst?) there is!)

Weneral_G ... never heard of him ... what does he stand for ??

gbno1fan
Mar 30, 2006, 07:31 AM
Technical Question - What do we do if Weneral_G actually wins?

Question for "candidates" - How would you handle a situation where all three other teams threatened to gang up on us due to our enormous tech lead? Which team would you try to bargain with first, and what would you offer them?

fe3333au
Mar 31, 2006, 12:17 AM
I would try to weedle info out of them and try also to plant seeds of distrust ... failing that ... I guess it becomes a military issue :(

Another possibility is to try to 'buy' a powerfull ally with the accumulated technology ... I'd probably go for Nuts before trying KISS. KISS being last resort due to bad blood between us.

TNT are the weakest of the three and I think we would gain nothing from buying their favour, after all for this scenario to be valid, TNT would have had to break our Alliance and I feel that trailors deserve only our steel and possibly lead.

As a citizen and not a diplomat ... I'd say if this dark scenario did manifest, that we would go into a frenzy of military action and raze cities and reap as much destruction as possible ... concentrating mainly on defence with the odd sortie on foreign soil.

First of all, everyone should understand that my candidacy in no way reflects on my opinion of Fearius' skills or track record. Honestly, he's been amazing.

For 13 months, he's ably guided the MIA Torpedo of Supremacy through some delicate waters. For a long time, MIA was as vulnerable as a molting crab. We needed to convince our neighbors that they would gain more by working with us than they would fighting against us. Our bluffs were delivered our Foreign Minister in masterful volleys of letters.

But the world has changed. Whomp and Fe no longer hold their snuggly fire-side chats. Robi has clammed up. Tnt... well,... hmmm.

The MIA Foreign Ministry must change with the tides. AIM chats have been invaluable for hunting for nuggets. But no longer can we trust the other teams to err in our favor. Now that we are at war with everyone else in the world, we have to find new ways to get our enemies to help us win.

When elected, I will immediately hire Fe to resume regular, informal chats with his contacts abroad. General_W's Propaganda Rag Publishing Company will continue to be used to plant information in the UN. This will be part of a coordinated effort aimed at letting DNUTs and KISS arrive at conclusions about the state of affairs that will work to MIA's advantage. Lastly, our letters will take a decidedly less puckish tone. MIA's position of strength (economic, cultural, productive, and military) will be leveraged into psychological strength as well. We will try to obscure our enemies' perception of MIA's status; to convince them that the save they open doesn't represent the true situation; to trip them up into making choices based not on fact, but on feeling.

Of course, the very best players won't be fooled by these tactics. But there is a chance we can help things along towards victory using these techniques.

Well put Mr. Grimes :salute:

I agree with what you say in general.

However, I think that under my guiding quill we would be coordinating the launching of barbed and barded broadsides along with the bombs that will soon be raining down onto foreign lands and installations.

Let words also be used to attack.

We will use metaphor and double meaning ... damage with the poisoned pen ... destroy the will of our enemy to continue the fight ... sap their souls of all resistance ... psychologically reduce them ALL to quivering shellshocked blobs ... <deep breath>

Well you get the picture ... in tandem with our military we will use the Foreign Ministry to spread discord.

 I just hear a distressing piece of information from one of my ... ummm ... associates who hangs around the shaded side of the Colossus ... anyway, apparently Peter Grimes doesn't use a spell checker and his thesaurus is used to prop up an uneven deskside table :smug:

That's no rumor. It's certainly true that I don't use a spell-checker - I just proofread myself. I'm a reasonably good speller, and I'm proud of that.

As for the thesaurus, it's also true that I rarely use it. I prefer to rely on my own wits; if I'm ever at a complete loss for precision, I have to move the table to get into the thesaurus.... I loath physical labor, so that extra challenge helps me keep my brain sharp and my usage clean.

I do not consider stirring a martini to be physical labor ;)

That said, I will not tipple to the extent Fearius did, either. MIA is no longer be importing wine, which is just as well seeing as how the Foreign Office already smells pickled!

It's the 11th and (probably) final term!!

Nominate the one you want to run the Foreign Department as we whittle down the Number of Foreign powers to Zero!

I will only run if no one else runs. I am supremely busy at work. Is Fe back yet? I think he is well-suited to see us through these last few turns to victory.

So far Fe is running unopposed. The other polls are up, so it's looking like Fe will AIM MIA to victory

May AIM may be off a little these days ... but I will launch any correspondence in the general direction of victory ;)

Anyone else after a cushy job ??? ... I wonder if the wine cellar is still intact :hmm:
