This poll is to determine what tech we start to research.

Writing. Wheel can wait a bit. The philo free tech is too good to pass up.

Ditto. Maybe we could go ahead and do CoL first, though, and use Philo to get Republic for free.

Going for CoL first will undoubtedly cost us getting philosophy first, or at least it will cost us enough that it will be very hard to get to philosophy first (unless the other teams don't start on gold). Besides, Republic so early might hurt us (unless we can avoid barbarian attacks or AI attacks (or even an attack from another team!). Go for Philosophy directly and probably take Map Making or something like that, to be determined later.

go for philosify then construction and SoZ

Just out of curiosity, what will construction give us that we need? Also, what are ACs but harder-to-obtain, slightly stronger MWs? Besides, SoZ is 300 shields in the game and other teams will be trying for it.

I too vote writing.

Philosophy race seems fun. Lets hope Greece goes CoL first. I'd still perfer the Wheel first though, so we get an idea of where to settle first.

I am for philosophy too. We can`t build mounties in reasonably numbers this early anyway, so we can as well delay the needed tech until we can.
(Besides, I wouldn`t be surprised if our horsies are quite far away, to challenge our "skills" :p .)

Assuming we get philosophy, what tech should we use it on? A good case can be made for the wheel, and for literature if we should desire the GL (I dont particularly care for it). I dont think we could get as much value out of math, currency or construction assuming we are able to trade for the prereq techs.

Map Making comes to mind. The Wheel is a rather cheap tech, so can be researched quickly.

I agree with Zyxy here. It would a waste of our free tech if we'd choose The Wheel. By the time we have Philosophy we should be able to research the wheel in six turns.

Map Making sounds better though. It's one of the most valuable techs in the AA, since it grants us the possibility to send around some galleys.

Agree 100% zyxy. If we can get the GL, then that gives us the possibility to find and settle islands the others wont be able to reach, giving us a fall back if things were to go pear shaped.

I vote iron-working so we can start conquring :ar15:

Maps sound good. Iron working will be hogged by both Persia and the Celts; surely we can get it from one of them.
