Case, you are right except for Anvil.

Now I consider it in bad form to look these up, so I'm not going to answer any of the others, so don't look this one up if you want a real chalange:

Operation Rankin

Blau - German '42 offensive aimed at Ukrainian Oilfields (Stalingrad).

Varsity - Allied crossing of the Rhine using 82nd and 7th Airborne Divisions.

Wacht am Rhein - German codename for the '44 Ardennes Offensive.

Bagration - Soviet July '44 offensive that destroyed Army Group Center (100+ divisions) at the same time the Allies were struggling to break out of Normandy.

Are you a ww2 freak? :D

All correct.

Interestingly enough, Wacht am Rhein (Watch on the Rhine) was deliberately picked as the operational name to convey the impression of a defensive effort. At the time, the Germans had clear evidence that the Allies were getting intelligence relating to their planning. They were, via Ultra intercepts.

What was that about being a WW2 freak? :)

Rankin

Secret Allied plans to invade Europe or German before Overlord if the German surrended or collapse become evident.

Rankin A -- was to land on the Cotentin Penisula and the port of Cherbourg if Germany appeared to be collapsing in the West..

Rankin B -- would provide for seizing Norway and France if the Germans appeared to pull out of France and Norway.

Rankin C -- In the event of a complete German collapse, FDR was prepared to parachute American troops into the heart of Berlin to block the Red Army.

I was co incedentally reading Roosevelt's Secret War by Joseph E Persico when I looked up Plan Rankin on Google and found this site.

Why do some newbies have a habit of presumably spending hours into the archives of forums? ;)

He said he found it on a google search. BTW, he didn't "bump" an old thread because he contributed to it. Bumping a thread would just be writing "bump" and that's it.

I am sorry for offending by posting to an old thread. I only wanted to contribute something I just discovered when I found this site on a Google search. BTW, I joined in 2002. Does that make me a Newbie. To prevent accidently breaking of you rules, I shall refrain from posting. Goodbye.
