View Full Version : My first unit: LotR Palantír
WildWeazel Jul 31, 2005, 01:35 PM I made this a few months ago and just realized that I never posted the finished product it in C&C, just the private LotM forum. This is a very simple unit, with just 2 animations because that's all it needed for the mod. I may do some other animations, but I don't know what else to do with it. It is, after all, a glowing ball. There are no sounds, but I will try to put something together soon. I realize that this is not excellent quality and am open to any suggestions for improvement.
Note: The magenta in the preview is semi-transparent in-game.

la_dav Jul 31, 2005, 06:14 PM Good job! Expression is very lively , can use it fully in a lot of aspects. Thanks!
flamescreen Aug 01, 2005, 12:07 PM Indeed, a multi-purposs one, as it seems.
Vuldacon Aug 01, 2005, 03:00 PM Has a nice Glow before the Flare... I like the effect :goodjob:
PCHighway Aug 02, 2005, 12:24 AM As I said before, very cool :).
Roman Legion Aug 02, 2005, 02:09 PM What is it??
mrtn Aug 02, 2005, 08:35 PM What is it??
It's a magical crystal ball.
Thanks Weasel!

tjedge1 Aug 06, 2005, 01:58 PM Is this to be used as some sort of scout recon unit?
It looks really cool.
WildWeazel Aug 06, 2005, 07:51 PM It's a flag unit that can be captured an carried around, with a very high recon range and detect invisible ability. It's spawned from the Dome of the Stars GW.
The Last Conformist Aug 07, 2005, 01:35 AM NB: Unless it changes in C3C 1.22, detect invisible doesn't work on recon missions.
Roman Legion Aug 13, 2005, 08:35 AM It looks like an explosion. is that what it is.
The Last Conformist Aug 13, 2005, 09:28 AM @RL: mrtn already told you what it is; a magic crystal ball. From The Lord of the Rings.
Roman Legion Aug 13, 2005, 05:35 PM What use is it?
WildWeazel Aug 14, 2005, 01:06 AM And I already told you that. Of course, it can be used for anything you want, that's just how it's configuredin LotM.
tjedge1 Aug 14, 2005, 09:51 AM It would be an excellent recon unit with an unlimited operational range. That way it can see anywhere on the map. Like a Palantir in Lord of the Rings. You have seen the movies at least haven't you? The thing Pippen took from Gandalf because he wanted to see it again, the same thing that Saruman used to communicate with the Dark Lord Sauron.
Roman Legion Aug 14, 2005, 05:15 PM EH, I don't see any use for it.
Warning. I am getting tired of cleaning up your spam, trolls, and flames. If I have to do it again, you will get a temporary ban from posting. --Padma
tjedge1 Aug 15, 2005, 05:32 AM I have one. It's perfect for High-Magic Fantasy.
