Should the use of spreadsheets (exapmle (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=111195)) be permitted?

for:
could be done on pencil and paper
no new information is given- simply more effecient use of exisiting information

against:
possible violation of rule 2.2
Description: No team or individual is permitted to use the PBEM save games or other files to obtain information or alter any in-game element. This includes monitoring or altering memory while the game is loaded. Using MapStat or CivAssist II or such utilities is also prohibited.

Definition: An individual scanning or monitoring loaded files into memory or altering a file can obtain location information and more, they can even alter in game data.

Purpose: To prevent the use of outside game elements to break the spirit of the game by allowing someone to outright cheat.

Verdict: Using these or any other methods that allows altering the in-game content through any means is a violation of this rule.

Punishment Level: Once - Automatic Expulsion

spoll will close in 48 hours- EDIT:forgot to put it in

Personally, I don't see the problem, there is no conflict with the rules; and with the amount of work that needs to be put in; I highly doubt any team would use it. although I'm tempted to vote no, simply to stop the other teams

I don't see a problem either - it doesn't provide any additional information or alter the game in any way. Personally, I use them all the time for XOTMs - it is not that difficult to set up a simple one, and they can be very helpful for avoiding waste in the early game.

I'll do what I can. My spreadsheets are not as sophisticated as Offa's, but they help me. I don't have a lot of time right now unfortunately, but I'll try tomorrow.

Thanks for sending me your spreadsheet ... It's going to take a bit of thinking to work out how to create something user friendly ...

Do you want me to post here as attachment or mail you direct?

Oh and keep up your analysis ... your comments for options can be a tremendous asset for our team :goodjob:

Offa's spreadsheet is excellent (far superior to mine). I don't remember exactly why I don't use his - one of his columns was after growth instead of before or something, and it ended up confusing me because I was already used to mine, but I highly recommend checking his out for anyone who doesn't already have a format they are used to.

You probably should just post any improvements here - that email address gets so much junk mail that there is a good chance I wouldn't notice anything.
