View Full Version : Term I - The Office of President
Octavian X Aug 08, 2005, 12:54 AM The Office of President
Current Officers
President Octavian X (http://forums.civfanatics.com/member.php?u=10158)
Deputy President - Now accepting applications!
Executive Director of the Elections Office (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=125893) Furiey (http://forums.civfanatics.com/member.php?userid=38201)
The Deputy President is charged with, well, being a deputy to the President. Not a terribly difficult position, so a qualified candidate will be an enthusiastic person willing to work as my partner in running the nation. The Deputy President additionally may not either be an elected official nor a deputy to another official.
Applicants for the position should post in this thread stating that intent.

We're just founding this civilzation, folks! Come back when we have a city! :D
Other Notes
Welcome, one and all, to the Office of the President of Fanatikos! I apoligize for the mess. Understand that we're still trying to figure out where to stick my office, though there's this whole affair on deciding what shape it should be. I think it should be an oval, but my architects insist that a circle or a nice rectangle with a 1.618 side ratio would be more appealing. Oh well...
Also, I apoligize for the lack of anyone to even show you through where I think a door should be. I just may have just accidentally spent my entire budget alotment on this box of doughnuts instead of hiring a secretary. Mmm... Doughnuts....
Erm, excuse me. What did you want to know? Oh yes: This thread (complete with needle) shall serve as a central point where all information relevant to this office may be found. The President, to quote Article E of the Fanatik Constitution, "is responsible for control of the slider, worker allocation and resolving disputes between leaders, such as over use of gold. The President is also responsible for all tasks not assigned to another leader." As President, I am also responsible for leading the executive branch of federal government, staffing the Elections Office, appointing citizens to vacant offices, as well as confirming appointments of judicial pro-tempore officials.
Somebody should probrably write that all down, but we haven't got a knack for this 'writing' business. Maybe I should be the Trade and Tech people on that...
Octavian X Aug 08, 2005, 12:58 AM Reserved, just in case.
CivGeneral Aug 08, 2005, 02:28 AM How does it feel returning back to the presidency? ;)
classical_hero Aug 08, 2005, 09:00 AM What about your runner up being your deputy? Are you Okay with that?
Civlord Aug 08, 2005, 12:56 PM Good luck, and good work in these four years :D !
Octavian X Aug 10, 2005, 07:00 PM You know, CG, it's been about two years since that term. :p
Anyway, I'm proud to annouce that Furiey has consented to run the Elections Office! Thank you for taking on this task!
greekguy Aug 11, 2005, 11:25 AM Hi, i was just looking through the Screenshots thread, when i noticed barbs. are set to raging. in this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=124719), since no one posted or objected, the setting was made roaming using cumulative voting. why did you make it raging? just trying to find out what happened.
Octavian X Aug 11, 2005, 12:27 PM Yikes, that can't be good. I was going by the Setup reference thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=125808) that Chieftess posted and stickied. The only thread it linked to the barb decision was the poll, and I totally didn't know about that discussion.
That said, it's really a small mistake in the grand scheme of things, since barbarians will just be sticking around their camps without the NoAIPatrol flag set. If people thing it's something that big, we can always restart.
greekguy Aug 11, 2005, 02:08 PM i don't think we need a restart, i was just looking for a clarifacation, which you gave me. Thanks!
classical_hero Aug 13, 2005, 02:45 PM Mr. President, have you decided on your VP?
Chieftess Aug 13, 2005, 03:28 PM Well, look at it this way... we might be on a cramped continent. We just met France.
Octavian X Aug 13, 2005, 08:13 PM I'm still looking for more applicants to give them the chance, classical hero. I'll give them anotherr few days.
And, I apoligize to everyone for not posting instructions in time for today's turn chat. I've either been working or plagued by thunderstorms all last night and today...
DaveShack Aug 15, 2005, 11:32 PM Greetings President Octavian,
Our fine city of Olympus has some danger of public unrest if our population grows too quickly. We can spend a little gold on keeping the people happy, if that is agreeable to you. I have posted instructions to use other means if necessary.
Your Servant,
DaveShack, Governor of Olympus
Octavian X Aug 16, 2005, 12:01 AM Governor DaveShack:
Thank you for notifying me of this situation. The extra expenditure will be approved, as it shall be the general policy of this office to spend the necessary gold on luxuries to keep the citizenry happy.
Your servant as well,
President Octavian X
DaveShack Aug 16, 2005, 12:32 PM I noticed that we're researching writing at minimum? The only reason to go the writing path at all is if we want philosophy first, did you mean maximum?
Octavian X Aug 17, 2005, 01:00 AM Well, there's not much we can do at the moment. I failed to post instructions for the last turnchat, which left Chieftess with that decision. She apparently went for the minimum research route, because unless I'm looking at the wrong save, I can't bump up research at all to finish writing before 41 turns.
Chieftess Aug 17, 2005, 06:58 AM I tried the same, to no avail. Remember, this is emperor level, so tech research is MUCH slower for us. No early seafaring curraghs to save us this time.
Furiey Aug 22, 2005, 11:02 AM Mr President.
I realise that you are no longer the DP with the current organisation, however I notice that we do not appear to have a turnchat schedule for this term. Perhaps you could help organise the DPs to get a shedule so that we know what we are working to this term rather than just ambling along.
Have you decided on a VP yet? Nomination threads will be going up in a couple of days and classical hero is being very patient.
Octavian X Aug 23, 2005, 06:50 PM Ms. Director,
You'll have to excuse my shortcomings on those two points.
Firstly, the President's role, especially in these early stages, isn't demanding. classical hero can have the job if he first posts here, but I can't promise anything to do.
Second, well, the DP schedule is ignorance on my part. Things were running well, so it wasn't a particular concern. We should probably set up a system by which absent scheduled DPs can be skipped (perhaps following existing absentee rules).
And lastly, POST 5000!! :D
Civlord Aug 25, 2005, 07:34 PM Mr. President,
Term II will certainly be more demanding than Term I, as we already have met several civilizations and are growing in size. I, Civlord, am proud to announce that I strongly support your cause and wish you good luck in this next election.
The majority of the citizens of Fanatikos says these words:
"More four years! More four years!" :D
Thank you, mr. President
Furiey Aug 27, 2005, 01:50 PM Mr President,
We are currently discussing trades that will show us the location of Iron and Horses. We are also trying to locate sites for our next 2 cites. the location of these 2 resourses is a key factor in where we want to position our cities and we may have to compromise for a less than ideal city location to get one or the other. If the next turnchat is unlikely to be until Wednesday next week, perhaps there is time to have a special session before then to do the trades (if that's what we decide to do that is) so that we can see where the resources are and plan accordingly.
Please consider this, and if agreeable arrange a time with the T&T minister so that the trade can be made in time to allow city locations to be finalised before the session next Wednesday.
Donovan Zoi Aug 27, 2005, 10:29 PM Mr. President,
For the upcoming turnchat, we need a specific instruction to lower the Luxury rate from 20% to 0%. It is truly alarming to think that we could have had Writing 8 turns ago by doing this 20 turns ago.
Also, I see no need to continue of hoarding of wealth. Depending upon how our proposed trade session goes ( I second Furiey's call for it), we can re-enter the tech race by putting an emphasis on science for the last session of the term.
Respectfully,
Donovan Zoi
Citizen of Olympus
Gerikes Aug 28, 2005, 07:42 PM Mr. President,

And I third that. It's been called for in other threads for multiple reasons, but now is the actual request.
Octavian X Aug 28, 2005, 08:55 PM Sorry for the delay, folks. I've been tied up as of late. :)
The special session has been scheduled for the moment that the tech trade is finalized and poll is closed.
Donovan Zoi Aug 30, 2005, 08:05 AM Mr. President,
Do you have an update on yesterday's special session? Nobody (the citizen) is scheduled to play the scheduled save in about 9 hours.
If you have not yet played the session, I would like to request that you leave explicit instructions as to how we should handle the building of our 4th city in the event that we find strategic resources elsewhere. This is in addition to my previous request that you leave explicit direction to lower the Luxury slider back to zero.
Respectfully,
Donovan Zoi

Mr. President,
I strongly support Donovan Zoi's decision. We have enough military policy in our cities and now the wines we have South of Olympus are making one happy face per connected city. We must think about the income and the science rate, as our main goal is to get the GL before the AI.
