OK, I'm sure the computer wizards (as well as the average user) will have a good laugh at my lack of computer skills here, but this patch thing is driving me crazy. I'm sure it's something stupid and silly, but I'm hoping that someone can help me out.

I've just now been trying to download and apply the patch for Civ3. I sat and waited for it to download, and when it was finished, I clicked on the file. When I did, I got this message:

"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of this file, verify its integrity, and try again."

Well, that was a bummer. I went directly to the Civ3 site and waited AGAIN for the download and tried again. The same thing happened. It happened again a third time as well.

Now, when I try to click on the icon to begin the game, the install wizard pops up and it seems as if it is installing the patch (in the Civ3 folder). Then....nothing. When I click the icon again, I'm then asked if I want to delete this file.

Weird.. at least to me.

Could someone help out a spaz and give a suggestion or point out the dpoey thing I'm doing.

My computer is a Gateway PC with Windows 98. I have a Pentium3 800 processor and 256k memory. I really don't know offhand the video or sound cards. I'll let you know if that's necessary.

Thanks in advance.
