If Civ3 had half the features of SMAC, I wouldn't have uninstalled it.

Plus, the future techs are all so inspiring... Who doesn't wish that half of the SMAC techs will be discovered in the next 1000 years.

Yes they are and AC tech tree is still on my wall.
Different thing is that what does Treshold of Transendence or something like that got to do with reality.

Tsk - Tsk. Do I sense a non-Believer in the crowd? I too unistalled Civ (II) after SMACx found its way into my heart.

Civ II and SMAC were both original and great games, and they can't really be compared on the same length, the 2 games play differently, it would be a nice gesture if all those guilty of flameing admit their shallow minded ness and stop the cyber-violence before it turns into Sid Meier's: Fan Crossfire

I think the major difference between Civ and AC is that AC is much more story-based. Apart from that the differences are only in design choices that could be transferred from one game to the other (like the planetary council/un, ocean cities, blind research or whatever).

If only SMAC had A.I capable of making you beg for mercy...:(

this is the major difference in how AC and Civ play differently
Note: I haven't played Civ 3 so maybe this is differnt for that

Flow is where it lies, Civ 2 is very choppy, each advance is major and military tedchnology makes drastic changes in warfare,
AC as a whole is a very gradual progress in game, from how terrain is formed, a much more natural and flowing system IMHO, to the fact that militarily strat is more important then tech

With default gameplay, Alpha Centauri is superior to Civ2 and 3. However, the latter two are more editable, because AC will always have a futuristic feal, while with some editing, Civ can feal very different from the default game.

initially civ3 looks to be the far superior game ... but after a month or 2 of playing u realise that the government system is the exact same as civ2, the diplomacy is better than civ2 but doenst touch AC, Lets not even go into units!! :rolleyes: and whatabout the natural wonders of the world? firaxis never heard of the alps or the great barrier reef? i REALLY loved the locations in AC!!!

civ3 has got nice pretty graphics, culture and resorce trading which is all very nice, the new way of air wars is VERY nice ... BUT civ3 is just a fancy civ2 where as AC is a new addition the the 4x game series

actually AC graphics are horrible :( but gameplay and gameflow is a few steps ahead

SMAC rules... Not that Civ3 could be taken as a bad game, which it is not, but SMAC seemed to be much more innovative for its time, considering its heritage...

I think SMAC is better than CIV 3. The character of the faction leaders add a more interesting aspect than just "Militaristic" or "Scientific". I also adore the infinitely customizable units and gameplay in SMAC. There are just too many units in Civ3 that I never use (Musketmen, destroyer), why do I have to seem them in the production box?

Civ3 is not a bad game, I've been playing it over SMAC since its release. I would love to see its better aspects (resources, Great Leaders, even culture) implemented into a SMAC 2. Come on Firaxis! Make the perfect game!
