View Full Version : How should we organize our city names?
classical_hero Aug 21, 2005, 06:08 AM IIRC there were three methods that were brought up to deal with this issue, they were by PC, by order of entering the team and randomly. I will give two other options, by Alphabetical Order, and by The CoC order and then the Next Term CoC order and so on, until we get to the names being random, and have the option of another, just incase someone else thinks of a good order.
How shall we name the cities?
By Post Count
By enterance order
By Alphabetical order
By the CoC Method
By Random
Other
Abstain
fe3333au Aug 21, 2005, 07:08 AM I voted order of entry which would be order of citizenship ... only fair way imo
Black_Hole Aug 21, 2005, 09:00 AM well being the first member of our team, you can guess which way i voted ;)
But also the other options weren't as fair or feasible
Kentharu Aug 21, 2005, 01:24 PM by entry the others aren't fair
peter grimes Aug 21, 2005, 08:31 PM I'd like a little explanation here if someone doesn't mind....I'll try to guess, then please correct me if I'm wrong.
After the Capital, the following cities will be named ...
by Post Count, meaning the citizen with the highest # of posts names city2...
by entrance order, meaning in RegentMan's citizens registry, first MIA team member names city2...
by Alphabetical order, obvious
by the CoC Method, the Pres gets naming rights to city2,....
Random obvious
Are we determining naming rights, or will the cities take on the Citizen's name?
I'd like it if the city took on the name of the corresponding citizen from the citizen register. Seems fair, and it also seems logical: First member represents the founding family, and then as more families joined/aggregated, the citizen roster grew as did the number of cities.
Therefore, should I be voting other?
Rambuchan Aug 22, 2005, 02:37 AM Put all the names in a hat and pick one out. ie. Randomly. It's only fair and Alphabetical is BORING.
fe3333au Aug 22, 2005, 04:35 AM I hadn't thought of Grimsy's idea ... however my name could be misconstued as a city with an iron and a gold source ...
I would like to add that the citizen that seems to have gone walkabout ... Naimyth (sp??) ... does he get a city? ... I would say no because after various PM from Captain, myself and others he has not replied ... in fact I would tag his name or even remove it into a RIP
peter grimes Aug 22, 2005, 09:46 AM @fe333au: Who ever thought a little inadvertent misinformation was a bad thing? If your name becomes a city name, and they misconstrue it, that's their problem. After all, our entire citizen list is public; and they already know you in the UN.
As an aside, if we simply go down the citizen list, in order, the other teams might catch on and be able to determine our city order. Would that be a concern?

It does not matter if teams know the order of the settling of our cities, because that is no important, what is important is the production and commerce capablities of the city.
fe3333au Aug 22, 2005, 11:03 AM Anyway I thought that the naming rights go down to order of citizenship ... then that person christens the city with a name of choice ... see Citizen List where 2 options are listed ... however I would suggest that making up a name on the spot would be better ... but as long as we follow the order ...
azzaman333 Aug 23, 2005, 03:18 AM I want to change my vote to Random.
classical_hero Aug 23, 2005, 07:47 AM I want to change my vote to Random.
Then Post in the needed things in the UN for that.
I we are to go for Random, how shall we do it and who will be in charge of it?
Rambuchan Aug 23, 2005, 07:51 AM You should do it as Prez and simply write the names, drop them into a hat and just pull them out each time we found a city. Or something other than a hat, which randomises the names just as well.
Rik Meleet Aug 23, 2005, 10:43 AM 1 vote subtracted from CoC; 1 vote added to Random. Classical's request in the Needed things thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=3020164&postcount=20).

That makes sense. One vote was both gained and lost from Order of Entrance.
EDIT. Now I am missing. Now i have to vote again. ;)
Rambuchan Aug 24, 2005, 06:35 AM So vote man!
peter grimes Aug 25, 2005, 10:09 AM Finally... this poll is closed, and Order of Entrance is the winner.... So I guess the honors go to Black_Hole. Congrats. Now let's hurry up and build another 14 cities so I get to name one.
As for Naimyth, (or anyone else who goes MIA) should we set a time limit on the naming rights, after which rights pass to the next citizen on the list? I think 72 hours from founding is fair. Thoughts?
General_W Aug 25, 2005, 10:43 AM 72 hours sounds plenty generous.
Lets get these cities named!
peter grimes Aug 25, 2005, 11:19 AM yeah, now that I think about it, 72 hours is wicked generous. Since we'll be going down the list, everyone will know when their turn is coming up, and can leave instructions with the tema captain or prez.
fe3333au Aug 25, 2005, 11:36 AM Yeah Team ... all is excitingly well ... full steam momentum ahead
