I like it ! :)

I've never messed with the borders graphics. Is there a way to make the sea frontiers different from the "flat-land" borders ?

There are only two types of borders:
1) For hills and mountains.
2) For flat terrain (which unfortunately includes water  )

Too bad. Anyway it looks very good. I would see them fitting nicely in the Fallout mod.

You'll just have to imagine that they're giant fishing nets or something...

Very nicely done, the only issue i see is that when two borders meet you can only really discern one color...

I tested them before I posted them and you can see both Civ colours when two Civ's borders meet. The colours are a little washed out because the preview is a jpeg.

What you may not have noticed is that when two Civ's borders meet there is only one fence (mountains excepted).

I have been using less Civ colour in the last couple of borders I have made, this is intentional.

If you like, I could make variations, in the one posted above I have added towers in the hills. I could add more Civ colour by adding things like flags, or some other item that could have the Civ colours.

Hey Pounder, is there any chance you can make Tin walled border for the fallout mod?

Pounder
Sep 04, 2005, 03:11 PM
I'll give it a try, remember the colours are limited.

Not really sure what you are looking for, are you looking for a solid version of the fence. This preview is a concept, I would like some direction if you could.

Where do you want the Civ colour? I have shown some grafitti, it could be Civ colour. The fence posts are civ colour.

Pounder, MC just showed me this thread, and I love the tin walls. The graffitti and fence posts as civ color is fine. The reason the tin should be darked just a bit is that I think a weatherworn look would be great. :goodjob:

Thank you very much sir for doing these tin walls.

Here is a sample of the tin walls, the colours that are there is about the limit of whats available. This preview is has multiple shades (like there are panels of metal) unlike the one solid colour in the previous post. I don't know if it looks better or not. If you don't like the panelled look, maybe you could pick a colour and I could make them one solid colour.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/nograf.jpg

Here is one where I added a sample of what some grafetti would look like, I could put words like in this preview or not. Maybe add some bullet holes.

Pounder, the paneled look is what I would need, the graffitti and bullet holes would be an outstanding addition, but maybe just leave the graffitti as black and just the posts as civ color? If you would not mind. :D

I just had a bit of a brain storm, I have managed to get a weathered/oxidized type of look. I haven't done it all yet just one tile, you may not want grafetti on these, I think it would cover up the look.

Pounder, I'm getting a purple background on these. I checked the palette and it looks right. Any ideas?

edit: the Fallout version does it too, but not the chain link version. I'm comparing the palettes.

It works fine for me, I just downloaded the file I posted above and it works fine for me. You can see that it works in game on the original post I made.

The guys on the Fallout site have posted several shots with it all working for them.

Are you looking at it in the editor? The editor displays this file with different colours than the in game game. The territory file is the only one that does this for some reason, that is; if you go beyond the four base colours that the original file uses, as I have done.

Maybe you could post a shot of what is happening, so I have a better understanding, because it sure sounds like a palette problem, but it is working for other people.

Maybe post the file as well, because the transparent colours this file are not the same as other Civ3 pcx files.

I downloaded it straight into the mod folder, and I get this:

Pounder
Oct 08, 2005, 09:11 PM
I have placed it in the C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Terrain folder and is working for me there. I have placed other territory files in several scenario folders without problem.

Could you posted the file that you are using so I could get a look at it's palette.

I downloaded it straight into the mod folder, and I get this:

I don't get that in either the editor or the game.

Seems to me that something is corrupted.

I once had a game get corrupted before and the graphic remained corrupted to the end of the game even after several turns/saves, I always thought is was the save or the bic/biq/bix that was gone bad.

Edit: Have you tried using the file in the regular epic game to see if works there, that may give a clue where the problem is.

Weasel Op
Oct 08, 2005, 09:50 PM
It may be the biq- I've had copies of it disappear 3 times. I'll play around with it and see if I can narrow it down.

Weasel Op
Oct 08, 2005, 09:55 PM
I put it in the main Civ3 folder and opened a new biq, and it does the same thing. Other borders work fine.

Well I tried it in-game (accidentally, because I forgot to switch them back after the editor test), and they worked. So I guess my editor just doesn't like them. :crazyeye:

Like I said before, the territory file will display properly in the game and does not display the sameway in the editor.

It is the only file that does this for some reason.

Anything other than borders is a palette problem. Make sure the background colors are the last 2 entries.

It's a good idea and the implementation is good too.
I have in the back of my head a scenario that will like that.
You might want to have all of them facing outside and not sideways or inside. That would also demand fewer of them available in each side though.

Virote_Considon

I dunno. If they're facing inwards, it gives them a very "1984" feel!

Are they supposed to appear automatically when you build a city and is there something else you have to do other than putting it in the art/terrain folder?

Thanks!

They just replace the borders.

Save a copy (best to rename it something like orgterritory) of your original territory file and then just drop this one into the art/terrain folder.

They are great. I have already messed around with the main art folder to include Snoopy's terrain, but he didnt change borders, so it will be nice to have a change.
If you are plaaning on doing another, maybe it could be chainlink fences, with military checkpoints, instead of gaps or gates.
