Bootstoots Aug 27, 2005, 07:36 PM Hello, fellow citizens! I am Bootstoots, and I wish to serve as Fanakos's second Public Defender.
In the time I've played the DG (particularly games 3 and 4, but regaining some activity in this game), I have always been quite interested in the ruleset and how to interpret it. I like the idea of a group of people coming together and deciding on rules for how to run a government of sorts in a game setting. It is really quite interesting to me. I have served for four full terms on the Judiciary in previous games, and I know how it operates. I have followed our current Judiciary since the beginning of the game, and I had the distinction of filing the first two judicial reviews in the nation's history, over details in the ruleset that appeared to conflict. If elected, I promise to encourage citizens to bring forth and comment on judicial reviews and to review the ruleset in order to come to an informed decision. I promise to uphold the law and my position as public defender to its fullest extent, regardless of whether or not I agree with either. I will defend any defendant of a citizen complaint to the best of my ability so that justice is truly served, and I will not let my personal feelings on the case interfere.
If anyone has any questions of me, don't hesitate to ask. :)

I am inclined to vote for you based on your storied Demogame career, but I would like to hear from your opponent first.

Do you believe our laws should be dynamic and changing with the times or farely stable and try to keep things the way they are?
Firstly, I agree with Bootstoots - the job of the public defender is to uphold the law.
But personally I think that, within reason, the laws should be dynamic. One sign of an active citizenry is debate over law- its relevance and if it should be updated, and so for the sake of Fanatikos I believe that debate about, and suggestion of change to, the law should be heartily encouraged by all, particularly those in the judiciary.
For me, part of the enjoyment of the Demogame is its laws - an artificial construct within which we play the game. We could all play civ individually (well, I couldn't at the moment cause my computer's too slow) :( but we choose to play here as well, under the laws we create ourselves. The laws create restrictions, but those restrictions make the game better, or different. But that's all a bit philosophical. In short, I think dynamic laws mean a dynamic game, but there needs to be checks and balances.
