With development in its later stages now, i doubt anything here is going to sway or cause a change in the game, dont you think this forum is a bit pointless?

There still could be minor adjustments, and besides, don't forget about expansion packs :)

Read this interesting thread: "We ought to close this forum (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=126103)" (warpstorm)

If you think so, all you have to do is stop looking at it...

I voted no, because Firaxis had already finalised most aspects of the game, but there are good ideas in this forum.

All you need to do is change the name of the forum to:
Civ5 - Ideas & Suggestions ;)

well, we could post some ideas, so that mod makers get more ideas to implement into the game later on.

In addition to minor changes for Civ 4 and Expansion packs, it will also give people ideas on mods to design.

Also, I find it fun to debate ways to improve the Civ game. None of this will change just because Civ 4 is finished (or largely finished) or what not.

Well at a certain point this becomes the Civ V forum

Feedback is always necessary, and CivIV hasn't been released yet.

Yes, we need a forum for ideas and suggestions. You can rename it "Ideas and Suggestions for Civ4 Exansion" or "Ideas and Suggestions for Civ5".
IMO the point of the forum is NOT having the idea implemented (although that would be very nice), but to show off what amazing ideas we have :smug:

Yes, it serves a purpose; lots of ideas could possibly be incorporated into xpacks and mods.

A Civ 5 forum would need to be set up from scratch because Civ 4 will fix some problem and introduce more.

Nope. But we should change the name to civ5 ideas and suggestions or civ4 x-pack ideas and suggestions (that is for sure). Or even better: Civ ideas and suggestions, so it fits for both!
And I get A LOT of posts here, so it musn't be closed!!! ;)

:hmm: If it's so pointless, isn't your post and poll pointless?

It will die a natural death as participants drift away.

Can you add a poll option: "This is Spam".

Well, I think this is necessary, as the game isn't out yet, for the x-packs, and for mods.

It gives modding ideas.

Whats the point of closing it? If anyone doesn't like it then just dont come. But let the rest of us have our fun.

No, it shouldn't because firstly it gives people modding ideas and secondly civ4 isn't out yet, so how can you have ideas for civ5 when you don't know what civ4 will be like?

Spam means you get 1,200 posts in less than 6 month!

Not that we really NEED it, I just feel that it would be good to keep this, and/or change the name to "Future Civ Ideas and Suggestions"

Well, in all the previews and articles I've read about CivIV, Firaxis most of the times mentions the big fan base and all the feedback they get from us. This forum is all about that feedback, so we shouldn't close it. Don't we kindda own it to them?

I'm not sure these forums did a lot to sway or cause a change in the game in the first place. That is, I don't think someone can just put up 'my really cool idea' and then Firaxis says "oh yeah, we've gotta have that". I think some ideas may circulate around, develop, get discussed, analyzed, re-constructed, take on a life of their own, and inspire Firaxis to discuss it, and maybe do their own version of it...

But I think most of us hang around here because it's a social club. It's just FUN to talk about a game that we like, and talk about where the game could go or should go.

Just checking in. ;) I'll definitely be back once Civ is released. Once I get my hands on Civ 4, I'll have a whole new slew of ideas using Civ 4 as the jumping board (rather than Civ 3).

Hey guys, you did know there is a general discussion forum for every single version of civ right? Absolutely nothing should happen to this forum. In fact, the forum group for Civ4 should expand to include forums that people would like to see that are in the Civ3 forum group. Perhaps we should move the stories and writing section to 4, but each version had and should have it's own forum. The games are so different enough that you do want to keep each discussion separate.

I always thought the line was pretty fuzzy between the two forums anyway. I was constantly seeing ideas in the general and just talk in the ideas area. Combine the two and re-divide into complaints and thoughts.
