This is the Russian made Tu-16 Badger bomber. It is carrying two AS-6 Kingfish ASM/AGM missiles. I used bump mapping to outline the panel joints in the aircraft. This is my first time using bump-mapping, and it seems like a great tool.

Here's the link to the files:

 Looks great. I may use this beast in my mod. I'm not sure how I'm going to include planes yet. These are still used, right?

China still uses them as the H-6 as maritime strike and as tanker aircraft. If any are still flying with the Russians then they are most likely being used as tankers.

Nope. They remained in service with Russia till 93.

So what does Russia use now? The Tu-160?

Nice looking unit VingrJoe. Amazing too that the detailing you achieved in your past units without bump-mapping.
I like the bombing run. WRT the attackA animation. I think maybe it should be flipped 180. Since as it is now, it is flying towards the foe, firing away from it (to the rear). While if it were flipped... it might seem to be trying to get away (as a good bomber should)

Very good looking textures on this one

The only thing I find a bit bothering here is, that the shadow of this plane is much bigger than the plane itself  .

Well, this is only my third aircraft unit, and I just figured out how to keep the ground plane illuminated while casting a shadow for the aircraft without having falloff in the ground plane's color illumination. Anyway, I'll be more aware of the shadow size of any more aircraft I do.

Shiny... Nice plane, but the bombs are a bit big, isn't it?

gentimjs

no, the bombs are not really too big. some Tu-16 varients (especially those used by China, the H-6) use/used some very large wing-mounted cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles. In fact, the "free-fall bombs carried internally" version only served very briefly with the Soviet Union, as they quickly became missile platforms and ECM patrols.

The only thing with this model which is anything left than perfect, imho, is the nose section .. a tiny bit off what the plane normally looks like, but only enough to bug a Soviet aircraft buff such as myself ;-)

.. now if we could get an M-4 Bison, life would be good ;-)
(Think a larger tu-16 with 2 engines on each side instead of one)

weasel, modern Russia has a few Tu-160s (less than 20 of them), still has some Tu-22M bombers around (the "backfire"). They also have some Tu-20s (aka tu-95 "bear") around, though all are either ECM, Recon, or cruise-missile-launchers.

Try reading the first post a little slower in order to comprehend it.

It is carrying two AS-6 Kingfish ASM/AGM missiles.

Now do a google search, and you will see the missiles are to scale.

RE: The nose section. Some badgers had different noses than the others. Of course ones with this nose would have the glass nose will the other variant (not sure which one) have the radar bulge. I did not feel like adding in glass detail to the front.

I do not mind constructive critism, but be knowledgable about the subject you are critizing, eg "the bomb size".

Great unit!

...And to think I was using the bomber from WWII as my Badger... :suicide:

I love all your units and use them.

Do you think you could make an Antonov An-225 - the biggest plane ever build?

I have papajonhn's C-17, and your C-130 AND C-295, but if you could make this beast it would eclipse all others.

I think there's already an Antonov An ??? in the Balancer reloded Mod....
But I'm not sure if it's the "small" or the "big" one...

The End is Nigh, um, I didn't make the C-130 or C-295. As for your request, I don't see myself making that anytime soon. I usually make ships, and the Badger was kind of a break for me. Although, I would'nt mind making more in the future, but for now, I have quite a few ships on my to do list.

I'm the one who made the c-130 and the c-295. I don't have plans to make the an-225 or any other transport aircraft in the near future.
I'm currently working on a couple of sci-fi ships and a couple of historical ships. If you had my units, you should have known who made them if for no other reason then I have my name in the readme.

Bjornlo, I'm sorry I didn't give you credit for those works (c-130 and c-295) TEiN mentioned, but I wasn't sure who made them. I guess one quick search would have provided me with the answer.

I wasn't worried about it man. I think you're a nice guy, and never worry about what you post since I know your heart is in the right place (slightly above and to the left of center mass). I even don't find it strange that someone was using my units and didn't know who made them. The only thing I thought strange was he was using my units and thought someone else was their creator. I'm not into unit making for credit or glory. I just like the artistic side of it.

May the time be short then ... Can't wait to see what you have created since the days you published each and everyone of your GREAT units...

My sincere apologies for the mistake, not least because both units were excellent. They must have taken you a lot of hard work.
