View Full Version : Newbe Butterball Sep 06, 2005, 11:24 AM Hi, I'm the new guy "Butterball". Permission to come aboard. BB Tubby Rower Sep 06, 2005, 11:29 AM [party] Hi Butterball! Welcome aboard. You've got a lot of reading to catch up on ;) . Basically to sum up (I'm sure Whomper has let you in on what's going on), we're expanding like mad with a 4 -turn settler pump. Building military in Dunderhead, Workers in Ignoramus, & will probably pull all three out of Jesterton. MIA (Greece) is to our south we can safely assume. They sent someone that should be in our country in order to deal with us ;) . Other than that, it's all fluff. Anyhoo, welcome aboard. Give wild speculative advice and sound confident and people will think that you know what you are talking about  Tubby Daghdha Sep 06, 2005, 11:47 AM Anyhoo, welcome aboard. Give wild speculative advice and sound confident and people will think that you know what you are talking about For most of the time Dagh himself doesn't know what he's ranting about, but he keeps going anyway. Tubby otoh knows every penny spent and every tile worked, every beakers dumped and on top of that how to calculate the distance between Dublin and Illinois with a chewing gum. Glad to have you here Bball  Rik Meleet Sep 06, 2005, 11:54 AM And of course: Welcome to CFC. :) Butterball Sep 06, 2005, 05:20 PM Oh ... man! I've read thru a few of the threads & I have to admit that I'm a puppy. You throw around acronyms like a first language. I've checked the CIV Acronyms list and still can't find all the ones that I've seen you use. What are: GPS - PM - NIC - SoZ - CB - IW - I'm sure that there are many more I know I'm showing my ignorance ... but I gotta learn somehow. Thanks BB IroquoisPlisken Sep 06, 2005, 05:28 PM GPS - don't know... PM - Personal Message. At the top right of your screen. NIC - again, don't know SoZ - Statue of Zeus CB - Ceremonial Burial IW - Iron Working but I gotta learn somehow. True! Just ask if there's anything else that's confusing. As you can see, I also don't all the acronyms. And Welcome to CFC! [party] :band: Whomp Sep 06, 2005, 06:02 PM Hello Butterball. I'm Whomp or Whomper or Panda Boy or whatever you want call me....uh ok dad? Welcome to our chaos we call home aka Simpleton. You will gain much knowledge from this band of idiots, Grandma's, blind mice, Grumpy old men and if you listen maybe your son too. :D Just so the team's aware this man is unstoppable in Monopoly. He would make deals with my sister like "I'll give you Atlantic and Baltic for Park Place and Illinois (both to complete monopolies for him) and three free rides" on his properties. His rule was no one else could say anything when there were negotiations going on. No wonder I could never win. Here's a link that may help you with all the jargon. I just learned wOOt recently and it means good things I understand so feel free to use it. I would also focus on the threads that are "stickied" (the one's with tacks on them). Got it? http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3/reference/Civ3_jargons.txt FYI BA's Massive Whompus rule! :hammer: Ginger_Ale Sep 06, 2005, 06:13 PM GPS is a multiplayer (MP) term referring to Got it, Played it, Sent it, where it is the save. Welcome to CFC, I hope you enjoy your energetic team. ;) I run the game along with RegentMan and RikMeleet over our shoulder, don't hesitate to ask questions! gmaharriet Sep 06, 2005, 06:19 PM Welcome to the team, Butterball!!! You must be Whomp's father, huh? That makes you doubly welcome. Whomp is a very special guy! :) I'm the grandma here, though I'm probably not like the proverbial "sweet little old lady" you might imagine, but I am little and old. :p soul_warrior Sep 07, 2005, 02:58 AM welcome onboard butterball. im expecting you to soon outpace your son. you've only 2571 posts to go. and on this game its possible ;) Butterball Sep 07, 2005, 03:22 PM [QUOTE] I'm not a granpa because Whomp hasen't got started yet ... that I know of. I guess I'm a big old grumpy man! BB Butterball Sep 07, 2005, 03:23 PM I now figured out that I don't know how the Quote works? What else is new? BB IroquoisPlisken Sep 07, 2005, 03:46 PM For quoting, click "Quote" at the bottom of a post, or if you are quoting things from multiple posts, copy/paste the text into a message, highlight it, then click on the quote button (the text bubble in the same line as Bold, Italics, and Underline). EDIT: Oh, for your last post, you just need to close the tag. Put [/QUOTE] at the end. Sir Bugsy Sep 07, 2005, 10:17 PM I guess I'm a big old grumpy man! Welcome aboard BB! :salute: Bede and I are happy to have another grumpy old guy around. Kickbooti Sep 08, 2005, 06:23 AM Welcome aboard Butterball. Whomp is 'da man. I can only assume that you, like my father takes most of the credit for that. Somehow my mom gets blamed for everything else... Mistfit Sep 08, 2005, 06:56 AM Welcome Papa Whomper... I'm kinda the wandering artist/smart arse around here... Once you get to 30 post and 30 days we'll set you up with a proper avatar :D You have MSN Chat? How about KoC? You talked him into becoming an orc yet Whomp? Whomp Sep 08, 2005, 08:39 AM OK Mistfit....knowing a thing or two... Whomper suggests a raven and/or navy :salute:related avatar for Butterball. He may have other ideas. Just my .02. Rik Meleet Sep 08, 2005, 10:12 AM BB: You are Whomp's father ? Double welcome to CFC then. Butterball Sep 08, 2005, 01:54 PM Once you get to 30 post and 30 days we'll set you up with a proper avatar :D You have MSN Chat? How about KoC? You talked him into becoming an orc yet Whomp? I' looking forward to 30 ... I have been for 30 years! You're Q's: MSN Chat? No Koc? ??? What's an orc? BB -Tomasz- Sep 08, 2005, 02:43 PM Hi BB, although it;s outside of civ, but here we go: GPS - Ground Positioning Sattelite, you know a device that shows your exact location on the surface of our planet ( I guess you new that, but I couldn't stop myslef :p ) NIC - thats an economic term ( Newly Industrialised Countries ) which refers to the countries that are being invaded by the multinational corporations. Those include mainly the post sovietic coutries in europe like Poland. Well, I havent been here for a while! I also have a lot to catch up. once again welcome BB, Tomasz gmaharriet Sep 08, 2005, 10:10 PM NIC - thats an economic term ( Newly Industrialised Countries ) which refers to the countries that are being invaded by the multinational corporations. That's one I'd never heard myself, either inside or outside of Civ. Thanks, Tomasz! :) Edited to add: Whoever said Civ wasn't educational? Tubby Rower Sep 09, 2005, 05:33 AM GPS that -Tom- is talking about actually stands for Global Positioning System. The device that you use is technically a GPSr where the 'r' stands for reciever. There are 24 geo-syncronous satelitttes of which you can potentially see up to 12 at a time. 3 are all that are needed for 2D (latitude, longtitude) coordinates but a 4th is needed for 3D (altitude). When only communicating with 3 the GPSr will use the earth as a 4th sphere. Of course you guys knew that a geek would have a GPSr ;) Butterball Sep 09, 2005, 11:25 AM GPS that -Tom- is talking about actually stands for Global Positioning System. I thought the Got it, Played it, Sent it was the right answer, but thanks for the detailed answer about Global Position System. BB Butterball Sep 12, 2005, 03:07 PM Help!! I've got some new acronyms that I'm not familiar with: MGL = SP = IMO = AA = I need a lot of help! BB Whomp Sep 12, 2005, 03:13 PM MGL = military great leader. SP = Single Player game IMO = a derivative of IMHO which is "in my humble opinion" AA = Ancient Age MA can mean two things depending on what it's referring to. Either Middle Ages or Military Alliance. GA = Golden Age. "Pointy stick" is what our Gallic Swords will point at MIA if they don't shape up. You're fine and I will try to locate the better up to date jargon page. IroquoisPlisken Sep 12, 2005, 03:58 PM IMO = a derivative of IMHO which is "in my humble opinion" Or "in my honest opinion". Whomp Sep 12, 2005, 04:30 PM Here's the new and improved jargon thread. ;) http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=107641 gmaharriet Sep 12, 2005, 08:56 PM MA can mean two things depending on what it's referring to. Either Middle Ages or Military Alliance. MA can also refer to Modern Age or the unit Modern Armor. So you can form a MA (military alliance) with another civ to use MA's (modern armors) in the MA (modern age), but not in the MA(middle ages). The acronym that drives me crazy is TGL, which can be either The Great Library or The Great Lighthouse, and they are both availabe around the same time period. soul_warrior Sep 13, 2005, 01:57 AM MA can also refer to Modern Age or the unit Modern Armor. So you can form a MA (military alliance) with another civ to use MA's (modern armors) in the MA (modern age), but not in the MA(middle ages). The acronym that drives me crazy is TGL, which can be either The Great Library or The Great Lighthouse, and they are both availabe around the same time period. thats why i prefer to use The Great Bulb (lighthouse) or The Great Book. also used is TGLight and TGLib. Rik Meleet Sep 13, 2005, 03:05 AM What about "GL" which is used for the Great Library, the Great Lighthouse and both Scientific and Military Great Leaders ?? GA = Golden Age & Ginger_Ale (BTW how are Mommy_Ale and Daddy_Ale ? ) RM = RegentMan and yours truly. So, we all get confused sometimes; don't be afraid to ask what it means. :) Butterball Sep 13, 2005, 01:25 PM GA = Golden Age & Ginger_Ale (BTW how are Mommy_Ale and Daddy_Ale ? ) RM = RegentMan and yours truly. So, we all get confused sometimes; don't be afraid to ask what it means. :) I'm goint to add one: BB = ButterBall (yours truly) BB  Mistfit Sep 14, 2005, 04:16 PM As an incentive to post a bit more (to get over the limit) I talked to whomp on some specs for your avatar. This is what I've come up with. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/dad2.gif http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/dad2.gif Whomp Sep 15, 2005, 10:25 AM Very nice Mistfit. I tink he'll like dat. BB here's your succession game (aka SG) Bede and Gram Harriet have started. You have been given a special invitation. TGOM and Ancient Crone go to Alpha Centuri (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=128721) Here is a link to a utility that you should download (DL) It will give you a quick overview of your empire versus clicking F1, F4 screens. Maybe others can tell you how they get from the game to this program underneath it but on my keyboard it's the "Microsoft window" key and then I can click mapstat and get the view and go back to the game. Rinse and repeat every turn. Crpsuite (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=52902) A lot of players on this team also use this and seem to like it quite a bit as well but it may have more info than you need. I have not used it yet so I can't really don't know all that it offers. Civassist II (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=118540) Tubby Rower Sep 15, 2005, 10:30 AM Alt-TAB will switch between programs currently running. In SG's I usually have Paint Shop Pro (for screenshots), notepad (for notes), MapStat (to prevent riots), & [c3c] all running and can switch between them as necessary. barbslinger Sep 15, 2005, 12:57 PM http://community.the-underdogs.org/smiley/happy/pint.gif I'm here! Thinking about beer! Reading over a lot of the threads and the 1st thing that strikes me is that war will be different against humans. I think we have a better team though form the names I see on the rosters. Don't know what to jump in on or what thread I should pop my 1st barley-pop in and contribute but I will. Where do I locate save to give it the once over? Whomp Sep 15, 2005, 01:08 PM @Wildcat 'Slinger-- Get a beer and I would read the "turnplay log thread" first just to see the log. There are useful pics in Tubbys "geek numbers" thread. If you want aggravation and my latest rant read the "diplo" threads. For full frontal Adm.K. isms hit the "naval operations" thread. It ultimately could be the most important thread at some point. The email is teamkissATgmailDOTcom password is sillywabbit6 The password for the save is 100Euros If you view the latest save don't move units around but the screens are available for pics whatever. Bear Down! Whomper class of '85 barbslinger Sep 15, 2005, 01:19 PM Read all those thusfar Whompinator. Loved AK's. Will have a look at the save at lunch. Bear Down '84. Purdue on tap this Sat. My good friend is from there and we will be houseboating this weekend. Housebout is equipped with Satellite and hot chicks, hopefully nude. I'll bring pics to Kincaids. Butterball Sep 15, 2005, 01:43 PM As an incentive to post a bit more (to get over the limit) I talked to whomp on some specs for your avatar. This is what I've come up with. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/dad2.gif Outstanding ... Thanks. You must have visited my old College web site to come up with the bird :D "RAVENS ARE FLYING HIGH IN THE SKY" BB Daghdha Sep 15, 2005, 01:54 PM @Slinger Welcome  Butterball Sep 15, 2005, 01:54 PM I'll bring pics to Kincaids. I thought Kincaids was Jayhawk land!!! BB Whomp Sep 15, 2005, 02:12 PM I thought Kincaids was Jayhawk land!!! BB A. Who watches Kansas football and B. on a Sunday? Kinclosed's backroom 30 tvs with 7 games. Life's good. gmaharriet Sep 15, 2005, 02:17 PM Welcome, barbslinger! You probably don't know me, but I know you by reputation as a very good player. I'm glad to meet you! Yes, it's very different playing against real people. The AI is far more predictable and (often) uses better sense, methinks. :p Mistfit Sep 15, 2005, 05:18 PM Hey Slinger nice to see you join the team! Just what we needed (another beer slugging smart arse to fill out the roster) One bad part though is that I will not be able to muss with your avatar :( I wouldn't dare touch that one as it is a classic Do you have MSN chat? If so you could get in on some of our "really intellegent" late night chats  My MSN is nchtc3 AT chartermi DOT net look me up Admiral Kutzov Sep 15, 2005, 05:20 PM IMIO - in my idiot opinion  soul_warrior Sep 16, 2005, 01:10 PM :hatsoff: 'slinger. glad youve joined the mayhem, Butterball Sep 16, 2005, 02:44 PM Welcom aboard Slinger!!! BB Bede Sep 16, 2005, 11:07 PM My apologies to all, I've been working too hard and have completely missed this thread. A really big welcome to BB - the family that civs together hangs together. And howdy 'slinger, glad to see you around and about. Sir Bugsy Sep 16, 2005, 11:32 PM :salute: Slinger! Glad to see you on board the good ship KISS. @ BB - Is that a chief's anchor I see in the proposed avatar? If so I'll be addressing you as such. Butterball Sep 17, 2005, 11:12 AM Bugs @ BB - Is that a chief's anchor I see in the proposed avatar? If so I'll be addressing you as such. I believe it represents the USN, however, most Chief's usually had utter distain for Ensigns. :twitch: Mistfit Sep 17, 2005, 11:35 AM In my defense I only had the hints... Ravens would be cool and Navy would be good as well The rank and all of the other stuff I did not take into consideration Sir Bugsy Sep 17, 2005, 02:34 PM So we have two O's on the team then. Kickbooti Sep 17, 2005, 04:22 PM Accept a tardy 'howdy,' Slinger. I love the avatar. And to get a feel for the team, note our motto "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." We've put it in most our signatures. May the world soon tremble before our combined stupidity! :viking: Mistfit Oct 16, 2005, 11:50 AM As an incentive to post a bit more (to get over the limit) I talked to whomp on some specs for your avatar. This is what I've come up with. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/dad2.gif @ BB ~ I think you could upload your avatar now :D You been here a month and have over 30 posts. Instructions: Drag and your cursor over the following http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads10/dad2.gif right click and copy the text Go to "user cp" Click on "Edit Avatar" on the left hand column scroll down to the bottom page look for "Enter Avatar URL:" and right click and paste the above URL in there and hit "Saved Changed" your new avatar should be there :D Butterball Oct 17, 2005, 11:17 AM right click ... your new avatar should be there :D Thanks Mist. I got it and I like it. Wish I could say that all the time.;) Oh well. Thanks again. BB:) Whomp Oct 17, 2005, 11:19 AM Wow that is quite becoming!!! You've never looked so good. gmaharriet Oct 17, 2005, 06:39 PM VERY handsome, BB!!! :) |
