View Full Version : Where to build the Great Library
DaveShack Sep 06, 2005, 01:18 PM We have Aristotle at our service, ready to complete a great project for us. Discussion has been nearly unanimous for the Great Library, but there is quite a lot of contention about where. This poll is to confirm the Great Library as our choice, and decide where to put it.
If you do not think we should build the Great Library, choose Other. If you choose not to participate in this decision but want to show you are here, choose Abstain. Otherwise choose the city you think is most suited to being our repository of knowledge.
This poll will be open for 3 days or until the start of the next play session.

Donovan Zoi Sep 06, 2005, 01:31 PM It looks to me like our greatest cultural threat lies to the east with Germany. Any cultural resistance to the north is a long time coming due to a lack of development in the area. And we really don't need any cultural protection on the coasts.
That put's the decision between Olympus and Civatonia. While I would like to see our capital as a cultural beacon for all, I did make border protection the cornerstone of my Presidential campaign. So I have no choice but to vote for Civantonia.
Civlord Sep 06, 2005, 01:50 PM Although I would build the GL in Olympus, I think that the German pressure will be strong and we will have to deal with it properly in the future.
greekguy Sep 06, 2005, 02:02 PM I believe the Germans will soon become a non-threat because Rome and France have dogpiled them. whether they get eliminated or severly weakened, i don't think we will have to worry about cultural pressure.
IMO, the French will be teh most cultural nation in the near future and to protect the Augean Stables from flipping, we must build the Great Library in the Augean Stables!!
Ginger_Ale Sep 06, 2005, 02:08 PM Even after Augean Stables' and the French fringe city to the west of it (forget the name) expand their borders once for each, Augean Stables will STILL have no risk of flipping. Civatonia on the other hand is right next to the German capital.
Provolution Sep 06, 2005, 02:59 PM I support Civatonia here, that said, I think we need to consider other wonders in the other cities, as we are limited to 5 cities and cannot have too many units.
DaveShack Sep 06, 2005, 03:16 PM I support Olympus because it is easier to defend. Putting a wonder right next to the most aggressive opponent is begging for trouble.

DaveShack Sep 06, 2005, 10:50 PM Hmm, should have left time for a runoff... I wonder if the mods can make this 2 days?

It had better be closer than 9-4 to request a runoff. Plurality or not, I think it would be unfair to try to snatch victory from such a decisive option as Civantonia enjoys at this point.
Furiey Sep 07, 2005, 01:47 AM As the turnchat has gone back by a day and is now on the 10th (Saturday) at 17:00 GMT and this poll closes on the 9th at 18:20 GMT, if towards the very end of the poll a run-off is needed a 1 day run-off could be held with a small amount of overlap between the 2 polls. Or the run-off could be just slightly short.
CivGeneral Sep 07, 2005, 07:23 PM Personaly, I dont care where the GL is built since we have a leader to rush it ;).
