RE: Operation Gilligan

Chief Petty Officer Igor has just returned from the beach with a report from our simple shaman.

The shaman report that construction of our first successful wooden floating device is nearing completion. To summarize:

Test one revealed that rocks are not an appropriate construction material for vehicular transportation as Research Person goes down with the ship despite the ritual chanting that was done the night before. Although that may have had more to do with the banner grape harvest than anything else.

Test two revealed that horses and fish are not related. The horses had no ability to submerse for extended periods of time. Research Person 2 is replaced.

Test three was somewhat out of the box. Our shaman gathered thousands of monkeys from the wilds and provided them with tools. The old adage was quickly disproven as the monkeys necessitated a search for Research Person 4

Test four was likewise unsuccessful due to our continued grape harvests. However our of the brigther apprenctices noticed that the casks actually float when one throws them in the water. this lead to a breakthrough in design and rapid development of a prototype began. While having the research students conduct cask races proved to have amusement value for the citizenry, a slight course change was needed. Research apprentices were placed into the empty casks. After several minor set-backs it was determined that the lids should be removed. Then one of Chief Igor's cousins, an apprentice at the test site, held aloat an undergarment which filled with the winds and propelled her to victory in Cask Race 42.

From those humble beginnings, hull and sail design advanced rapidly and we are now on the precipice of deployment.

A Hale man has been designated "Skipper" of our soon to be completed boat. With him will be his little buddies, mary ann and ginger. the professor will accompany to record scientific progress.

Unfortunately, our financial backers, the Howells were lost as shark food, when some gold fell overboard and they went in after it. Fortunately, a previously undiscovered will has emerged that makes the Dept of Naval Operations the sole beneficiary of their estate.

our wooden floating device is now preparing for launch. the simple people wish to invite some combat settler along for the ride. however our transportation capacity is not yet large enough.

Research continues.

With MIA sighting a boat I would get that curraugh moving CCW. Hopefully they are going N along our continental coast exploring and we will meet them. If we count the turns since they made contact we should be able to plot where they came across. If it was a suicide we should be able to suicide across the same squares and see them.

Tubby Rower
Sep 16, 2005, 01:21 PM
well d'nut met them. I assume that they are in the SW of their continent. Which means that TNT is in the NE.

I would rather make contact with TNT since they might be trading with D'nuts and then we won't be in the rear position of this train. Also this will give us a scouting eye on the other continent.

Ave. Joe can make his way along the western coast and if they are coming up that side then we'll wave to their boat. If they go CCW around our continent then they'll run upon our cities sooner than we could meet them.

Admiralty celebrations concluded with a report from our comrades at the dept of diplo relations. It appears that the foreign minister of MIA is bridge player rather than a poker player. Good call monk!

work progresses on the wooden thingy that floats and glides magically with the wind and tides. Progress on an actual cargo carrying vehicle has been hampered by the ineptness of TNT or d'nuts who hath managed to lose a city. Our literate people are working on this.

A side benefit of our wooden floating device program is the development of a new writing stick. Our shaman will no longer will have to use burnt sticks to "mark" the parchment. Indeed we now have cylindrical writing devices. to protect the security of these devics we have coined the codename of "crayons"

We awaiting developments from the monestary and shamen (or is it shamans?) we need something called MM. appear it will involve the use of our "crayons"

It's in the Cartography room. We did cross the coastal connection and are bearing NW-W counterclockwise around the other continent.

Tubby Rower
Sep 29, 2005, 06:59 PM
The reasdon that we went to the top of the other continent is due to the balance (interpreted semi-mirrored) aspect to the two continents. This will put us in contact with the northern civ of the other continent. Since D'nut met MIA first I assume that they are the southern civ over there. fe (from MIA) told us that D'nut was circling our continent.

So my reasoning was that we need contact with all three civs. Mia we have. D'nut is searching for us. And TNT should be found hopefully in the next few turns.

Here is a pic of it's current location.

BTW, fe told us that d'nut was coming up our western coast if I understood him correctly

I take it the map is hand-built, but shouldn't luxes be continent-exclusive? Perhaps ours go around the top and it maps the word in a _L T kind of shape. OTOH hand-making might be the one reason it's off.

What is the new heading for the A.R.S.E. Igors Hope? Are we to continue around the new land mass or back track for its eastern shore? Bear in mind that all contacts have been made. I overheard the sanitation engineer say that he'd like to see the breadth of the TNT empire from the coast, but since you are the fleet commander, I guess it's your decision.

Subject: Secret Weapons

We here in the rolling hills of old Latrobe are pleased to announce the release of a new weapon in the war against the evil empire (TNT). After extensive testing in the glass lined tanks, we offer this premium new weapon as a tribute to the good taste of team KISS.

First to summarize. Development began with ingestion of several cases of 'pony' bottles of rolling rock fire water. This lead to experimentation with the geometric potentials of a barbaric game called "pool"

The barbs of the other continent have apparently developed some sort of mythology based on the evil qualities of the TNT empire. They have apparently had some success in their guerilla operations and have obtained the head of the <censored by rik for my own good> and his cohorts. These are quite sophisticated barbs that actually developed an entertaining game with the heads. The heads are placed in proximity to each other and then one strikes the head of <censored by rik for my own good> very hard to break up the other heads. The one who gets the most skulls in the nearby caves wins.

After missing several shots towards the caves, igor let lose a profundity (or was it a profanity?), and dropped an F bomb. Judging by the response of the other participants (several ears turned red and fell off), this was determined to be an effective weapon of limited utility. The shaman have determined (after multiple sacrifices) that the rik and the GA and the regent, do not look kindly upon such weapons and will use their godlike powers to punish the rash user of such an F bomb.

Therefore, we have a powerful weapon of limited utility.

Please advise when you wish to employ this weapon. Igor will thenceforce be on siesta. happy trails.

To: <censored by rik for my own good> <censored>

Igor charges yet another windmill.

FYI.... There is a curraph on the eastern side of our continent steaming towards the south (Grecian homeland). There is also another curraph (Igor's Hope) at the bottom of the other continent. It could turn around and go back to MIA. The problem with that is that the 1st said curraph will be there in 8 turns while Igor's Hope will require 12 turns to bust the same fog.

My recommendation is to keep Igor's Hope circling the D'nut-TNT continent and let the other curraph keep steaming southward to Greece and they can meet up at the Fur city for an upgrade to a galley.
