View Full Version : New LOTR Unit: Harad Sworsdman (September 11, 2005)
utahjazz7 Sep 11, 2005, 04:25 PM Here's a unit requested by egroen for use in the Lord of the Mods. I guess it could be used as an Arab-type unit as well, even though the shield probably isn't accurate. Oh well. Enjoy it, if you want to.

EuropeanFury Sep 11, 2005, 04:54 PM Awesome! Looking very good :)
Sildo Sep 11, 2005, 05:33 PM Good, good, good, everything looks good (but what else is new)
Seriously, great job.
Olorin0222 Sep 11, 2005, 05:36 PM WhooHoo!!! Thanks, Utah!
BadKharma Sep 11, 2005, 05:39 PM Awsome job utah even if it isnt totally accurate as an arab unit it still makes an awsome flavour unit.
Ares de Borg Sep 11, 2005, 06:54 PM Looks byzantine, except for the shield. Nice unit!
Mithadan Sep 11, 2005, 06:59 PM Wow, what a pleasant suprise! I forgot egroen had suggested this. We were too busy fighting about the rest of the Haradrim unit graphics, I guess!
Bungus Sep 11, 2005, 08:23 PM Nnnnnnnice!!
Like how he adjusts his belt in the fidget. Death and fortify animations are real good too. Excellent work.
Do you think you could trim his beard and swap the shield you used for the Qin warband and just rerender the animations? You know, to get an Asian swordsman?

Adjusts his belt? Oh. He's supposed to be stretching his back a little bit. Oh well, to each his own.
No, I won't be adjusting this model to make an Asian Sworsdman. ShiroKobbure already sent me a pm asking about this. I adjusted this model tonight to see how it would translate to the Asia Swordsman. I just didn't like the way it looked though. Sorry.
R8XFT Sep 11, 2005, 10:00 PM Great unit! I'll be using it as a Parthian swordsman in my mod :) .
Polietileno Sep 11, 2005, 10:11 PM Looks like a Turkish Swordsman or a Central Asia equivalent.
tjedge1 Sep 12, 2005, 06:22 AM Good job. Nice to see there are still units being made for LotM.
COAtlantis1745 Sep 12, 2005, 09:30 AM Now, you guys are missing the most obvious 'flavor' use for this unit. . . give him over to the Hittites. The shield looks about right, his head gear kinda sorta looks Parthian-ish, and the sword is good.
I would use him as a Hittite Medieval Infantry or Footman.
Other than that, an excellent Haradrim unit, Utah :goodjob:
egroen Sep 12, 2005, 10:17 AM Utah, you have really been a big help with LotM.... thank you so much!
Just because I am always interested in seeing what units are based off of, I'll list my source for this unit:

There has been some confusion over who was an easterling and who was a southron which the movies essentially perpetuated. According to Tolkien, this unit is essentially your perfect 3rd age southron... swarthy, with golden and bronze brazen armor. A curved sword and dark red robes (civ color for Harad).
As for the easterlings, they were also swarthy but more squat and barbarian-like with big beards. In other words, just like the most recent easterling Utahjazz created for us.
Quinzy Sep 12, 2005, 11:16 AM lovely looking unit
Bungus Sep 12, 2005, 11:27 AM Adjusts his belt? Oh. He's supposed to be stretching his back a little bit. Oh well, to each his own.

Arturus Sep 12, 2005, 12:02 PM I think I will use this as a Mongolian Swordsman (Already have the Hun Warrior for Medieval Infantry). It's not perfect but the unit looks enough like one I think.
Hrafnkell Sep 12, 2005, 12:10 PM It's a great unit however its used.
PCHighway Sep 12, 2005, 04:06 PM Thanks, it look awesome! :)
mrtn Sep 12, 2005, 05:52 PM Thanks again mate for your continued support of the mod.
utahjazz7 Sep 12, 2005, 09:52 PM Well, it's always a pleasure to help out with LOTM.
Yoda Power Sep 13, 2005, 12:09 AM Very nice:goodjob:
Olaf_The_Great Sep 17, 2005, 05:39 AM This Unit was made on September 11th 2001... E err uh 2005
*Puts on American Flag colored Baseball Hat*
SEP SEPT SEPTEMBER 11 even 11 September 11 september
Lol....Bush...rapping
But overused comments aside its a great looking unit
I will use is at a byzantine unit.
If you modify the shield to a round shield I would use it as Generic Muslim Infantry/
PLEASE MODIFY IT. But either way it is a very, very, very, very good unit with the coloring and the graphics and the Jabajoob Awhh you know what Im talkin about
Snorken Sep 17, 2005, 10:03 AM Looks good. :)

More Tolkien Impressions (http://fan.theonering.net/rolozo/collection/mcbride)
egroen Sep 25, 2005, 04:02 PM I knew that... we chose our inspiration directly from Tolkien, however.
The links you provided see the Southrons more as we have envisioned from our reading.
W.i.n.t.e.r Sep 26, 2005, 03:34 PM I c, yes, had me similarly confused :) been some time since I read all that
egroen Sep 27, 2005, 09:35 AM The Easterlings and Harad have been difficult. Tolkien wrote very little about them and even less about how they looked. I think he was planning on writing more about them but died before his thoughts materialized.
It does give us some leeway to use our own creative thinking with these nations, and I hope it will not disappoint! :)
mrtn Jan 17, 2006, 02:36 PM :bump:
Here are some sounds I badgered aaglo into making for this unit. All credit to him (and to utah for the gfx).
They are already used in LOTM and WH, but maybe someone else could use them...
utahjazz7 Jan 18, 2006, 01:34 PM Thanks, mrtn and aaglo.
