truckingpete Sep 16, 2005, 10:35 PM I decided not to post a discussion. You can discuss in here though ig you want. This is to choose our next few techs.....

TimBentley Sep 16, 2005, 10:45 PM I'd rather just save our money.
RegentMan Sep 17, 2005, 02:18 AM With our iron connected, my warrior --> sword mass upgrade 0% science won't work (unless we disconnect the iron). If we do disconnect it, I think we should do 0% science.
Furiey Sep 17, 2005, 05:03 AM We should try and get Construction and Currency as free techs from the GL so we don't want to spend our money researching them. We will then cat catapulted to the next era and get a free tech, so what we research will depend on what we get. As we are going for Republic, Monarchy is only useful if we want the Hanging Gardens, so again we should get that from the GL. If we want to keep the GL going as long as possible we need to avoid the education path which leaves the Fuedalism/Engineering route. Once we get Republic we need to slow down research (even stopping completely if we have not got Currency & Construction free by then) and use our gold to build/upgrade. For a while anyway.
greekguy Sep 17, 2005, 08:20 AM what happened to republic? did we somehow acquire it, as it is not a poll option.
i just checked out hte save and got my answer.
vikingruler Sep 17, 2005, 09:22 AM no feudalism. that is the worst possible tech to research in the near future. it will cost us an extremly higher amount of gold to upgrade warriors to MDI's. i say research or get construction/currency from GL, then research montheism and engineering. wait for all our warriors are swords, then research feudlism. then i suggest invention, chivalry, printing press, etc... i'm thinking we may want leo's it would be great to upgrade our swords quickly at a cheap price, great for the RDF.
admiral-bell Sep 17, 2005, 09:23 PM how do we get knignts templar
greekguy Sep 18, 2005, 09:11 AM how do we get knignts templar
Acquire Chivalry. Also, the wonder doesn't require any resources, so we don't have to worry about that.
Black_Hole Sep 18, 2005, 10:26 AM dont research anything now, go to 0% science
later we can research chivalry once the ais get us feudalism and monotheism
Provolution Sep 18, 2005, 10:37 AM Get currency, also in order to compete for a new Scientific Leader.
We badly need the currency right away, THEN I agree to zero out the slider.
50 % gold is WAY TOO MUCH gold to ignore in lost marketplaces.
CivGeneral Sep 18, 2005, 11:00 AM We should get Currency and Feudalism.
Donovan Zoi Sep 18, 2005, 12:44 PM Hey, everybody remember we are a Scientific civ. Therefore we get a free tech at the beginning of the Middle Ages. I can't remember if its Monotheism or Feudalism though.
The plan I would like to see us follow is this:
1. Discover Republic
2. Drop to 0% science so that our rivals can discover Currency and Construction for us.
3. Gain our free tech (which one is it?)
4. Get the other tech, then Chivalry.
That said, I am not sure how I should vote in this poll so I'll abstain. I think we should further evaluate this once we become a Republic.
Provolution Sep 18, 2005, 01:09 PM DZ, I disagree, we shouold get currency first, then zero out the slider.
Do not ignore the advantages of early gold. I even planned an early marketplace for Priapos, so do not leave us out.

I'll make sure that Minister truckingpete covers that on the next go-round. If I am not mistaken, you were one of the proponents of 0% science so that we could hoarde the gold prematurely. ;) I do agree that Republic and Markets go hand in hand, so that is my sole reason for considering it.
EDIT: As a show of good faith, perhaps you should change your current Temple build to a Library? Or do you only want the other governors to pitch in on your proposed extra research? You could start contributing to our nations knowledge and culture in a mere 3-4 turns.
Furiey Sep 18, 2005, 02:25 PM In Vanilla our free tech would be Monotheism, in Conquests it's random from the lowest tier.
Provolution Sep 18, 2005, 02:30 PM We got enough libraries, that temple is needed. I will build a library prior to next research phase.
vikingruler Sep 18, 2005, 02:59 PM i think we should bear in mind the amount of money it will cost to upgrade warriors to swords. unless someone can promise me that we have the neccesary funds to upgrade all our warriors to swords and then build more of them to get an adequate amount for a standing army i will remain adamant on this.
Donovan Zoi Sep 18, 2005, 03:47 PM We got enough libraries, that temple is needed. I will build a library prior to next research phase.
Fine, then we begin 0% science once we discover Republic. Our rivals can discover these techs for us. Thanks for your input.
Provolution Sep 18, 2005, 04:19 PM I request a separate poll for going for currency right after Republic, so we can make better buildqueues withour own timing. I did not expect this as an unwarranted extort to set-up another library. We can as well secure ourselves marketplaces and get the economic base for our gold-income period. No emotional arguments or spurious requests for more libraries, currency would cut it alone. Marketplaces also add additional happiness.
Donovan Zoi Sep 18, 2005, 04:28 PM The people have already spoken about the Library issue, Provolution. There is no extortion going on here, as I have not altered my original plan (0% science after Republic).
However, if you are going to demand that I alter the way I run my duties, I would at least expect something in return to even consider doing so. And since you are unable and unwilling to make any compromise whatsoever, especially one that would enhance the plan you yourself are proposing, then I have no choice but to stay the course until the people say otherwise.
I anxiously await your discussion and poll on this matter.
Kind Regards,
Donovan Zoi
President of Fanatikos
Provolution Sep 18, 2005, 06:29 PM Well, we got enough libraries so far, and I am preparing our economy for a zero research economy, not the opposite. That temple, future harbor and marketplace will be a major cash cow for our nation, all we need is currency. I am against delaying that to random chance for when two AIs got it.
Gerikes Sep 18, 2005, 08:11 PM Assuming this means "technology that we might consider coming out of our ~0% cocoon to research at an aggressive pace", I would have to say I wouldn't consider any of these, except for Chivalry (only if it was the consensus to build the Knights Templar). However, since there doesn't seem to be a large debate (nevermind consensus) on this issue, as for now I wouldn't even consider that. I'm sure if the topic comes up we'd have a nice debate and poll as to whether we should break out of our cocoon at that point in time.
viva la money! :king:

Tell you what, I make a poll just too see if we want to research Currency next. But I don't think we have too, that is the next tech in line...:D

TimBentley Sep 19, 2005, 06:44 PM Now that France knows currency, I think people agree we shouldn't research it (at the very least, Provolution does).
